the food here was really good and our chef was funny, attentive, and on top of his game. so was our waitress. they were both fab.that being said, i came here almost two years ago and whoever the manager of this place was then needed an attitude adjustment and to maybe learn how to destress.he came out, apologized that our chef was taking so long (we were all fine, not stressed about it at all) and when the waitress told him that she'd already inquired as to the length of how long the chef would be he condescendingly spoke to her in front of our table. my partner later heard him through the walls of the bathroom screaming at his staff and saying something about not wanting to send one of the chef's out to a table because that particular chef didn't "speak a lick of english."i'm not sure what proficiency in english has to do with anything, but whoever was the manager on 10/2/21 needs to reevaluate how he speaks to his staff. it's not cute and your staff is gracious enough to tolerate your shortcomings. be better. your staff was kind and respectful -- the only person not -- was you.

Since moving here from California we've been looking for good or even great sushi. We came here to check out their sushi bar. I noticed right away that it was quite warm inside, even a little uncomfortable. If you're headed here, I'd suggest you dress accordingly. As for the sushi, it was good! Jason, the sushi chef, is very personable and makes the best sushi we've had since we've been in Cincinnati. The beer was cold & the margarita was prepared quickly, which stands out to me, as many times there's a considerable wait when I order mixed drinks at restaurants. Our server kept up on our drinks, sides, and had a sweet demeanor. I'd recommend Sakura for sure!

We have always been a fan of Sakura, food is always good but it's been "not as great" for a while. Went last week for the first time in a few months and I'm guessing it's under new management and it was back to amazing!!!! We were seated immediately, our server was there promptly and the chef was so fun and the food was excellent!! Can't wait to go back.

Service was entertaining and comical. I ordered the poppys special medium steak .... received steak crunchy burnt on 1 side and well done throughout ( NOT MEDIUM) :( my boyfriends was cooked too order and got the Ichiban. Server was fast and friendly. Cook asked if my steak was ok and I told him it was burnt and he said we dont like complaints as a joke for the table!!Should have made it right somehow but didnt. Another downfall is he put like a cup of butter or as he called it (ice cream) on everything, even the meat. They still got their 25% tip though...

We have visited Sakura many times over the years. And it has always been a good experience. Tonight was no different. From the service, which was prompt and friendly, to the food, which was absolutely delicious, we had such a good time.The portion sizes on the veggies seems to have diminished a bit, which in the current atmosphere of shortages isn't really surprising, but I actually liked it because, for once, I was able to finish my entire meal.The only downside, and it was a small thing, was that our chef's coat was noticeably dirty. I imagine it's quite easy to get messy when doing hibachi cooking, but a fresh coat would have been a good thing. But overall, a fantastic experience!!!At the end of the meal, my 6 yr old noted that there should be roses in the restaurant. When I asked him why, he said, "Because then we could throw roses at the chefs for how good the food was!" I'd say it was a hit :)

Note: my review is strictly on sushi, not the teppan grill or Hillside Gastropub menu.This is our 'go to' place for sushi. Chef Jason is the best. He's friendly and takes care of regulars, but welcomes everyone to the sushi bar. A server will stop by for drinks. Some are better than others, but Grace is our favorite. We're regulars and usually order 2-3 rolls. Our favorites are: Angel Roll and a Rainbow Roll. Sometimes we do a sashimi appetizer too. The nigiri sushi and sashimi are generous in size. Price-wise, it's pretty standard - $15 for the more complex rolls. But the fancier rolls are a good size in my opinion, so worth the cost. If you like live music, they have bands in the adjoining Hillside Gastropub. They vary each week, but some draw big crowds.

CARRYOUT BUYERS BEWARE! I can't speak for the dining experience as we ordered carry out...and ended up being charged $97 for 2 meals (one steak and one chicken with a side of noodles). My son picked it up for me and didn't know to question the high total. Turns out they charge an automatic 20% gratuity for the cook ($15 in this case)....one would think they would share this info when you place an order as it is not customary to tip on carry out. The person who I talked to apologized and said she's new there and I would have to take it up with the owner. Who has time for that? Aside from that, the food was subpar. Dry unseasoned chicken and dry unseasoned steak and dry plain white rice. The yum yum sauce was good, but I guess you can't mess that up since it's likely from a jar. We won't be donating money to this place again that's for sure.

I would give zero stars if I could. This used to be my absolute favorite hibachi place. It has gone extremely downhill. Service was beyond horrible.We had a 7:00pm reservation. They eventually sat us at a hibachi table but they did not even come up to our table and take a drink order until I flagged down the manager and asked if we could have some drinks. That was after we sat there for a half hour without even being acknowledged. We literally felt invisible. Not sure about the food.....we ended up having to go eat somewhere else because after sitting at our table for an hour, our server finally comes to our table to let us know that it will be another 20 min before they would start preparing our food. Completely unacceptable considering we had a reservation and how expensive it is to eat there. I'll find a new hibachi place in the future.
