Sake Blue stays busy and for good reason. It's delicious with a vast menu and quick service. A house salad is a must when it's an option and it of course did not disappoint. Both the Passion blue roll & the Yum yum roll were loved by all in our group. Highly recommend this gem of a place!

Sake Blue is THE best Hibachi spot in Louisville. We've been coming to this location since our arrival in 2010 and it hits hard every single time. Back in the day, when SB was still a little secret you could get right in and sit right away. Now, you better plan ahead and try to eat at non-peak hours or take it to go. If you come alone, like I did on my last shopping trip in the area, I got right in to sushi bar seating and bi-passed the entire line. SB always has our hearts and Louisville is lucky to have this most precious hidden gem.

I love authentic real Japanese nigiri sushi and sashimi. I also love other authentic styles of Japanese sushi. I have lived on the West Coast and in New Orleans, and in Chicago and have had the real deal absolutely outstanding authentic experiences. I have visited Japan and eaten at the hands of sushi masters in all the places I have listed. You can check my other reviews on here. Never in my entire life have I had such an awful sushi experience. First of all this is not a true Japanese restaurant. The items on the menu are not just Japanese but more a mishmash of pan Asian cuisine. The appetizer I ordered was described as Japanese but when it arrived it was a famous Thai appetizer but without the delicious Thai dipping sauce. I also asked for Miso Soup and rather than taste like Miso Soup that I have eaten in any other Japanese restaurant this soup tasted like instant Miso Soup powder dumped into a very weak and not very hot chicken bouillon base. Like they use for their Teppanyaki grill customers (which for some unknown reason is incorrectly referred to as Hibachi in this area). People in Louisville have been telling me for 15 years that if I like sushi I must eat here. From looking at their menu I was never really interested because it was obviously heavily Americanized sushi with huge rolls covered with sweet and or spicy or both types of sauces at once. I was in the area and thought I would give Sake Blue a chance. A huge mistake on my part. As I was looking over the menu I saw that they had under Nigiri and Sashimi listed, Omakasa, customer names the price with $50 as a minimum. I ordered a $75 Omakasa thinking I was going to get the best the house had to offer. The server asked me if there was anything I didn't eat, I told her no, that I liked all the sushi and sashimi delicacies. I was shocked and appalled when she showed up with a huge plate that was mostly Americanized non authentic rolls. I told her that first of all that was not what Omkassa meant and sent it back. She brought back a plate consisting of perhaps six or seven different fish, the majority of them some type of tuna. The Sashimi was sliced too thickly and was tasteless, the Nigiri pieces, while the rice was tasty, there was way too much rice to fish proportionately. The rice was so heavy it was all you could taste. The absolute worst thing was that the Ami-Ebi was far from being sweet shrimp, it was bad. I literally had to grab a paper napkin and get it out of my mouth, it was soft, mushy, warm, and had an obvious bad taste. The tuna and salmon had no flavor at all. I could literally go to Kroger's sushi counter and get tuna and salmon with more taste. I ate one more piece of Sashmi I am not sure if it was supposed to be yellowtail or red snapper but either way it was not fresh and tasted "off". I put my chopsticks down and asked for the check and left. It is a big and busy place but you are not eating real sushi here. Service was great and I told the server she was doing an excellent job of service, left her a nice tip, and showed her photos on my phone what an Omakasa should look like. The room is large and thus the ambience is one of a party and I think people perhaps go here more for the party atmosphere or the Teppanyaki. There are far, far, better places to eat real sushi in Louisville. There is no excuse to have bad fish, we are a UPS hub and so many other places have really good authentic sushi.

I usually sit at the hibachi table and enjoy the food and chef but I was short on time and thought I would pick up some food to go. The hibachi to go is not the same. The price is the same but the food lacks the flavor. There is no way these shrimp were grilled by the chef. Disappointed.

What went well? The server was very attentive & helpful. I ordered the salad with baby lettuces, pears, warm goat cheese & candied pecans! Perfection! Tempura calamari. And the kitchen bento box with salmon! My guy ordered the sashimi salad. The ambiance is fairly low lit with a family oriented setting... Of course there are leftovers for the midnight munchies. Can you say oiishi??
