So this being one of the only places that serves Jamaican food I had to check it out. The wait is one of biggest reason I have it 3 stars. They need to get help so they can keep up with demand. I went around 1:45 and was told it would be 45 minutes to an hour depending on what I wanted. Next thing that was disappointing was the portions. I got the tiniest helping of cabbage and plantains. It was sad for a dinner portion. Cabbage doesn't cost much so they could've given more then they do. With that this place isn't an absolute must to try. If I'm in area and got time on my hands I might go back for curry chicken but otherwise I won't be back.

Jamaican me crazy!! One of the finer hidden gems in all of KY. I don't even want to leave this review because I want to keep the secret all to myself.Unfortunately they were out of their famous oxtails when I arrived, but I'm glad because I ended up trying their goat curry. The meat is fall off the bone tender, there's just something special about it I can't even explain. I never knew cabbage could taste so good until I had it here, their sweet potato had the freshest taste but cooked perfectly, not too soft and mushy. After a bite of my goat curry, I immediately headed back to the counter to order their 2nd most famous dish: The Jerk Rib Tips. I nibbled on my goat curry for 10 minutes before the rib tips were ready. These were succulent, juicy, tender, and the jerk seasoning really stood out. How have I just discovered this place? The place is decked out with Bob Marley canvas prints because who could do better justice to Jamaica than Mr. Marley? Menu is written on a chalkboard. The staff (2 people behind counter) are very friendly and just want to make sure your food is satisfying. Gosh this place is sooooo good!

What to get: Oxtail, Jamaican cabbageService: 4/5Atmosphere: fast casual, to goWait: 5 mins (Friday 5:30PM for 1)Parking: few spaces in front, shared lot with WalgreensThe Experience:I've never been to this side of town, so you know it has to be for food.Roof Top Grill is located on the side of a building, so you have to turn in by the Walgreens to find parking. It's okay to loop around, but I found some spots. I think everyone who eats there has the same story since you can't park on the street really.Inside is a bare necessities type of place. You can eat there or take it to go, which they box up for you anyway. You have glass separating you from the food, but the staff are really nice. One even directed me on how to get into the place since I was poking around the outside looking for the entrance. You have a choice for getting things as a "Special" or "Dinner." Special comes with rice and cornbread, while the dinner is rice, cornbread, and two sides. A dinner is just over $10 if you get the oxtail, so it's a deal. The oxtail is like stew meat with the bones still in tact, allowing the meat to stay flavorful and juicy. There can also be a few chunks of fat with it, so be mindful of that. The Jamaican cabbage is like a veggie soup with a little hint of spice. Not the 'corned beef and cabbage' ordeal, but a little more flavorful and soupy. The plantains were pretty standard. The cornbread was decent, but in comparison to all the cornbread around, it's a weak contender. My least favorite part was the rice under the oxtail. It might have been a bit older as there were some hard grains clumped together and the flavor is somewhat smoky. It was a perfect meal for a cold day. Now I know what lies in store on this side of Louisville.

A ray of sunshine in this area, it's great to see a quality, non-chain, sit-down restaurant on this stretch. And it's especially nice to have a good Jamaican option in Louisville. I've only been once, but we'll be back.We ordered and enjoyed the jerk chicken and curry goat. The chicken's jerk seasoning was very nicely balanced, served on a bed of rice and beans. The goat was excellent, though the bits of bone pose a bit of a challenge. We couldn't leave without trying a patty, and I might just fill up on those next time. If you get a side or two, be sure to try the cabbage. For the less adventurous, they serve burgers and fries too.Order and pay at the counter. No, there is no rooftop view. The name comes from the owner doing the grilling up there. If you're within half a block, your nose will tell you.

Was referred by a friend to try this Jamaican restaurant so I took him up on it and it was the best decision I ever made. It is located on the corner Louis and Coleman and Broadway in the West end Louisville. I walked in and the place was packed with people which is usually a good sign. I was told to try the oxtails and that's exactly what I had. It was absolutely delicious and extremely tender. Of course I couldn't go to a Jamaican restaurant and not try the Jerk Chicken. It had the right amount spice and heat. I ordered their macaroni and cheese and it was the real deal authentic. Definitely wasn't the blue box. My only complaint is the portions. I need more oxtails. The prices were extremely reasonable and I highly suggest you make your way down Roof Top Grill and get a taste of Jamaica

Very good oxtail and spicy curry chicken dinners. The sides were very tasty also. except the mac was as creamy as I prefer. Plus, be cautious when eating your meats dishes. You will come across small bones that have been chopped into small pieces.

This place is legit. I don't know if the food is authentic or not, but who cares. It's delicious and that's all that matters to me. My favorite is the curry goat dinner. Its big hunks of goat meat seasoned with Jamaican curry. The seasoning is out of this world. All of the warm spices that make up the curry blend pairs great with the fatty bits of goat. Its served over rice and comes with two sides (all the dinners at Roof Top come with two sides). My go to choice for sides is the greens and the Jamaican cabbage. Fried plantains and mac n cheese aren't bad choices either. Throw in a beef pattie and a kola champagne and I'm in heaven. If you're not a curried goat person then my pick with be the oxtails. You can't go wrong there. One thing to note, its a hot minute or two before for the food to come out. You've been warned. So don't be in a rush. Sit down, relax, and wait for the deliciousness to come.

Found this place on restaurant.com . I was an exchange student in the Caribbean, so was excited to try. The place is not fancy and it's not in a posh/pretty area of town. However the owner greeted us and was very friendly and the food was really delicious and a good value! My ONLY critique would be I wish they had some Soca Music or Reggae music playing to make it feel more Caribbean.

large sides? The greens were basically a small. The Mac/cheese was runny and tasted like they seasoned it with Ramen noodle packets. The greens had grit/dirt in them. I was disappointed. I threw the food out. Was good on my first visit but the other visits have been hit and miss for me. They took about 15 mins to give me my so called large sides. I think I'm done giving them my money!! The workers seem like they hate being tReally wanted to support but with the horrible customer service and the inconsistency, I'm done with them!
