One star solely for the staff being very nice and the other because we made it through the night. The room smelled of old cigarette smoke and the ceiling was falling in. Old hair and rust caught in the hair dryer. The air unit probably hasn't been cleaned in years. The sheets were stained. I don't recommend this location at all.

Shelbyville, Kentucky, is a small historic town about halfway between Louisville and Frankfort. The Red Roof Inn is a nice simple motel on the edge of town near the I-64 exit. There's no breakfast available, but there is a Waffle House at the edge of the driveway down by the highway. The rooms do not interconnect, and we paid more than we thought we would, but everything worked and the hardwood floors were clean. (Cannot say that about all Red Roofs, unfortunately.) Nice staff.

I only gave this motel one star because it is the only way I could leave a review. Absolutely the worst place you could stay. Ceilings have the paint peeling off. The beds are hard. There are stains everywhere. Underneath the beds are filthy. Some of the people staying here are definitely not on the up-and-up.The owner is a complete jerk. There was a miscommunication regarding how long I wanted my room - I thought I had made it for two nights, not one - and he called the phone in the room and proceeded to yell at me. I couldn't understand him and was not sure what he was saying. When I went down to talk to him, he continued to yell at me. I told him that I just needed to stay another night because my parents were staying and he told me there were no rooms available. Really? I came back later and a very nice gentleman was at the desk. I told him what happened. He told me there were rooms available and was able to give me one next to my parents. The only reason I stayed was convenience. Do yourself a favor, unless you are homeless stay away from this place. Even then, you may be happier under a bridge.

This place is super shady. The room is "ok" a few cracks in the walls, but the fridge works, bathroom is decent. It's outside the room that's the problem. There are people just sitting in vehicles outside. Super creepy. Pretty sure if I had stayed parked where I was that I would be murdered. As I pulled up, a local police officer finished his patrol of the parking. It's been four years since I was here and I remember why I stayed elsewhere last time I was here.

Came to Shelbyville for my best friends wedding. I've been to a lot of sketchy hotels, but I've never had to stay in a room as bad as this one. The room itself was super small (I'd estimate maybe 15 x 15 without the bathroom area). The bathtub holds water and still had water in the tub after showering the night before. The toilet lid is cracked and the mattress was absolutely horrific. It felt like an old mattress from a pull out couch that is angeled so that there's a big bumb in the middle. I felt like I was going to fall off throughout the night and kept tossing and turning because there's absolutely no support for two people (or even just one) to sleep in it. Sure it had a nice looking updated microwave and fridge, but that doesn't make up for the quality of everything else. I'm not even sure how anyone gave this place a 5/5. Next time I stay in shelbyville I'll definitely just spend the extra money to stay somewhere else.

If I could give negative stars I would. This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. The mattresses looked like they had been found on the side of the road. The only good thing I can say is it is close to a Wal-Mart so I could buy Lysol spray, mattress protector , sheets and pillowcases. If it wasn't so late I would have left and went somewhere else. Very sketchy people hanging around. The flip lock was broken so I moved the desk in front of the door. Please, if you need a hotel look elsewhere.

From reading other reviews, this hotel has construction workers staying there often, which would normally not be an issue, but this evening, there were workers staying and one pulled up beside my mother and told her to "get in the car." There are some creeps around here. If you are a woman, please reconsider staying here... especially alone. Besides the incident, the staff was very kind and very helpful when we requested a refund.

This is not a fancy place, but I have three criteria for lodging when I'm on my way from one state to another: Clean, quiet, and safe. This RRI is all three. The room is modestly appointed but clean. The bed linens appear new. The desk clerk was friendly and courteous. Price was very reasonable. Good place to stop on your way through.
