This place is excellent. During a trip to the Bourbon Trail, I searched Google for the best burger in the Louisville area. Red Hog was one of the restaurants mentioned, so I steered myself there on a Saturday afternoon and had a lovely time. I didn't make a reservation, and sat outside to enjoy the weather. The only thing I tried was the burger and fries, and it did not disappoint at all. I have to say it was one of the best meals I had in that area, and it wasn't expensive. The service was good and they offer a good selection of whiskey to wash down the grub.Highly recommend this spot if you're looking for a filling burger

I've driven by Red Hog soo many times over the years, we thought it was time to try it out. We first stopped by the butcher shop to check out what we could bring home with us. We got there right s as they were almost closing, so some of their options were already sold out but a great selection of fresh meats for your bbqs. We then went into their small bar area to grab drink. I got the Just a spritz cocktail. This cocktail was soo light and delicious. I also wanted something to munch on, so grabbed the pimento app from their lighter fare menu. This comes with a large cracker from Blue Dog bakery. Good stuff! If we came for a meal, I think I would have tried the burger. And they a nice outdoor covered patio for summer drinking.

The cuts of meat here are insane. They come with an increase in cost, if you're comparing to the grocery store, but with this quality you should be comparing to a steakhouse... this is half the price. The first time we bought steaks from here, I literally caught them on fire and they were still incredible. Hoping for much better luck moving forward- can't even imagine what they taste like when you don't engulf them in flames.

Besides the butcher there is also a nice little rustic style restaurant at Red Hog. We made a reservation for noon and requested a low top table - there are just a couple of them. Otherwise, all high tops with backless stools. I'm glad I did my research before taking a relative who would not have been able to sit at the high top table. The food was very good and service delightful. It was crowded so the noise level was a bit high. We placed our orders and were served promptly with a smile. There is also outside eating. Overall I would go again but after the lunch crowd.

I had read several reviews about Red Hog and finally had the opportunity to stop in and try some of their products. We bought a mix of the sausages they had available the day we stopped. So far we've had 3 out of the 4 varieties we took home. The quality is top notch. Very tasty, and not salty like many of the mass produced sausages you buy at the grocery. Also the casings they use are very tender and and not chewy like others. We also bought a Blue Dog bakery baguette. The baguette went great with our sausages. The employees were great and helped us decide what we should buy after we explained what we like and what we do not like.We will definitely stop again next time we're in the area.

This place sure knows what they're doing! In case the name didn't give it away, this is part of the Blue Dog family of restaurants (if they're into colors and rhyming, maybe their next place will be called "Green Frog" -- desserts this time! -- but I digress). With this group, you cannot go wrong! I had visited for dinner before and had a wonderful time. The outdoor seating is magnificent on a nice evening, the food is delectable and the service is so friendly. Most recently, I went for lunch with a friend and had an equally pleasant experience. The deli opens at 11, and you can grab a variety of artisanal meats, or a quick sandwich. We decided on sandwiches, and both chose the cold sandwich (there is also a hot one). But I wanted to switch things up and asked if they could toast the cold sandwich on the panini press. Presto, no problemo for the helpful and knowledgeable guys working behind the counter! A few minutes later our sandwiches were ready and they were so good! Fresh Blue Dog bread encased meat, cheese, dijonnaise and papadew peppers; the quick turn on the press gave it just the right melt and warmth. While we ate at one of the two tops inside, we watched the world go by on Frankfort Ave and saw patrons come in for cuts of meats for meals at home. This place is the veritable Frankfort Ave neighborhood butcher. To find your new favorite place, stop by Red Hog today. Like me, I'm sure you'll soon find another reason to visit again!

Red Hog Butcher was great. The selection was incredible.I wish we had been in the market, for steak, because what they had was beautiful.Sausage was what I wanted and they had a large selection.I got Hot Italian, Chorizo, and Andouille. I also got bulk Chorizo. I am happy that the employee helping me suggested mixing the Chorizo mixed, with ground beef for tacos, because I got some ground beed, also, and tonight I made tacos, with the mixture and it was delicious! What a great place, to have in Louisville. Service was fast, efficient, helpful, and friendly.

While waiting for my carry out at the Red Hog Smokeout Saturday August 12th and I shopped in the butcher shop and bought a few items. Note that this was my 3rd time shopping there since they opened that I have purchased meats and processed meats from the butcher. We were not impressed with the taste of the meats and cured meats we purchased in the past, especially for the price per pound. I bought the pimento cheese and fish spread, along with some Bluedog Bakery crackers this time. The pimiento cheese was bad. Had a an off taste and was just not good. The fish spread also had a very strange taste and again was not worth eating. Flushed both down the drain. As for the the two meats we tried at the Smokeout. The lamb neck was tough and had a pretty strong off taste. Note: I process my own deer and cook the neck, so neck meat doesn't freak me out. As for the Denver cut, it was very tasty and tender. The two side Tiger salad not very tasty and a very small portion, maybe two bites. Loaded potato salad was ok. The meal was pricey for only getting 1/2 pound of each meat, along with the two sides.I really wanted my selections from the butcher and grill to be good, but again disappointed for a 3rd time. Done.
