Just WOW!! We're in Portsmouth a couple times a month, this place will definitely be added to our "Go To!" list. We all got breakfast, the biscuits are HUGE! My scrambled & my brides sunny side up eggs were both done to perfection. My ham, although not 'country' was prepared perfectly. Will definitely be back!!

It was a nice-ish experience. I was there at around 10:30am on a Sunday. I really enjoyed the character of the place. Major complaints by others seem to be the paper plates, plastic utensils. I agree that this is a major flaw. Ordered a cup of coffee, looked forward to enjoying it with my breakfast, and it came in the cheapest of styrofoam cups. They won't even give me my piping hot coffee in a proper mug?? I understand it is a tremendous resource saver for them, but c'mon. Disposable plates and all that might be a great idea, but if you're going to do that, you've got to be willing to offer much higher quality disposable materials. I get to-go boxes from other places that are 100x superior to the trash they give you here. Also, the gravy they use for their biscuits and gravy - I don't know what they're thinking. Supposedly this place has been around since 1948 or something like that in the heart of Appalachia and they don't know what proper gravy is supposed to resemble? I better stop now, the more I talk, the more I want to keep bumping down the rating.

So this place has gone so far down hill, they should just close the door. #1, most restaurants serve food on plates, some on pizza tins, still others on baking trays. Why would you serve food to sit down diners on Styrofoam plates???? I get plates are expensive and break, buy small pizza tins, or small baking pans, then they're virtually indestructible. #2, gravy isn't that hard to make from scratch. It tastes better. Package or canned gravy is a fucking joke...#3, your biscuits suck. Bisquick is cheap, and instructions are on the box. Even a lazy idiot can follow them. And #4, for fuck sake, the bacon is already dead, no need to cook it till it turns to black ash. And just an FYI, I'm an accomplished Cook. I could single handedly run that entire kitchen by myself including do dishes. I won't be wasting my money here again. I'd rather go to burger King for a sausage croissant.

The food was fresh and well prepared. Above the standard of many "hometown diner" favorites. Chicken fried steak was properly breaded and prepared. Quality of food and presentation earns high marks. Side salad was fresh and well prepared. A solid choice which does not disappoint. Daily specials and rotating menu ensures variety

Breakfast at its best...home cook'in and great staff. Been around forever and the reason it the hometown feel.

Good food and fast service. I really didn't like eating my hot food off of a foam plate and using cheap plastic utensils. That was the only downside I saw. The decor is very outdated but we went there to eat not to look at buying it.

had the hungry man's breakfast. plenty of delicious food. comfortable atmosphere. super fast and friendly service. coffee was amazing! would have got 5 stars but i am not fond of plastic wear.

From the outside it is a quiet unassuming building.From the inside it is a pleasant family friendly place. The food is good and the price is fair.I really loved the warmed syrup with the delicious pancakes, they have a little crunch to the edges that really satisfies. When you find yourself in Portsmouth in the morning this is where you want to stop and have breakfast.

Find me a better pancake. I'll wait Stopped by this place while in town for a family reunion, and loved it! The home fries and pancakes were excellent!
