The museum is filled with interesting and informative displays. Pictures, uniforms, weapons, and descriptions offer in depth understanding of the people and places involved in the battle. The village of cabins offer many examples of life back in the day. The staff is friendly and helpful. Totally recommend to anyone passing through.

This was an AMAZING self-instructional museum. Once you pay the entrance fee, you are welcome to stay, read and relax for as long as you like. There are LOTS of displays with explanations about the how's and why's of the civil war. There is an outdoor "village" that you are welcome to walk through and experience the actual housing situations. Very Cool!

When ur randomly driving through Kentucky and you find a museum strictly about the WESTERN THEATER of the Civil War (aka, my favorite to study!) There were 5 Theaters of the Civil War, a phrase that describes the areas where the major battles took place. The military operations of the Civil War were conducted in the Eastern, Western, Trans-Mississippi, Lower Seaboard/Gulf, and Pacific Coast theaters of war. The Western Theater defined the struggle between the forces of the Union and Confederacy, from the Appalachian Mountains west to the Mississippi and south to Georgia.

This is a must see piece of History. There are three museums about the civil war and a colonial village to wonder through. It is very well laid out and so much information. A pass is good for two day's admission. Everyone was so nice and happy to answer questions. Give yourself plenty of time to relax and enjoy your time there.

Really neat little place in Bardstown Kentucky it's cool because it has a nice little museum that you kind of look at stuff but also get the ice known cool looking huts like they would shackled in things like they would have in the Civil War and set up still and you can kind of walk around and look at those so that was neat little throwback to the south Civil War days

Pay for admission here and see 3 museums and a village for $10. You get to see 3 museums which are; Civil War Museum of the Western Theatre, Women of the Civil War, and War Memorial of Mid America. You also get to see Old Bardstown Village. All 4 are AAA approved. The Civil War Museum is ranked 4th best Civil War museum in the country by North and South magazine. It contains many rare items. They are articulate in their displays. The uniforms and equipment worn in battle by both sides are on display here. Women of the Civil War is located up the hill and is devoted to roles of women during the Civil War. Such as nurses for the most part. They even one display where a nun is helping the injured. The War Memorial of Mid America features military exhibits from different wars such as the American Revolution in up to Desert Storm. Finally, Old Bardstown Village is what living back in the late 1700"s to 1800"s was like. Their are several cabins and log buildings. Some of which are over 200 years old. All of this is self guided and your stay will depend on how much you spend time reading all the stories.

I've been to Bardstown a few times but sadly never found the time for this gem of a museum. I was glad to finally get to go last week. For $10 a person, plus free admission to the War Museum down the street, this was a good deal. The inside of the museum had tons of artifacts from weapons, to clothing, to pictures. I loved the information provided on the signs, although I didn't have time to read through everything. The outside area was definitely a surprise. Lots of reconstructed buildings that you could walk into and explore. I will definitely be back!

An enjoyable self-guided tour through a very decent museum. The self-guided is actually quite nice as it gives you plenty of time to stop and read/browse all the material offered to you. Quite a fair price as admission here also covers admission to a few near by museums as well. Not sure if it's common practice, or if we arrived during a special time, but each ticket purchased was good at all locations for two days. The "village" on the property next to the civil war museum is nice, but there isn't much to it. A few reconstructed cabins, a couple plaques to read, and a few thousand wasps to dodge. When we visited a few of the buildings were taped off and locked shut. Didn't get stung though, so we had that going for us. Civil war museum is a real solid deal when considering its three museums for the price of one. Just watch where you're walking if you go down to the village.

This museum is a gem! It is a smaller museum but comprehensively covers the Civil War. Our brains were full by the time we finished. They have an amazing number of artifacts. (I can't believe that many people saved saddles.) Unfortunately it was raining so we didn't look at the outdoor village. If you have any interest in history or the Civil War this is the place to visit.
