Mikato Steak & Sushi

Stopped in here quickly for lunch with some friends and man were we surprised. It was a little dark looking and we were afraid it was closed, but we were warmly greeted when we got in and seated immediately. We got a combo of fried rice, sashimi appetizer, and bulgogi. The bulgogi was seasoned to perfection. Absolutely delicious with the kimchi they gave. I couldn't stop eating it! The sashimi and fried rice were tasty as well. Absolutely would love to come back!

This place is a bit of a hidden gem!I stopped in for sushi. When the waitress set the table with stainless steel chopsticks, I had to ask if the owners were Korean. Answer was yes (she was one of the owners) and I abruptly changed course.I had already ordered a salmon hand roll and a sake by the time I realized I was in a place that had a high probability of serving me something far more yummy than sushi. I am an absolute nut for good Korean food and have spent enough time on the peninsula to know it when I see it.After speaking to the owner's daughter, I got a bit more of the story. Dad makes the sushi and mom is responsible for the Korean side of the menu. We talked a bit about what I like and ultimately settled on bulgogi cooked a little crispy, a side of sauteed vegetables and an assortment of ban chan.Bulgogi arrived hot and sizzling! I absolutely love the slight caramelization that comes from cooking the meat a little hotter and a little longer. Plenty in this portion! Flavor was almost exactly as I remember from eating bulgogi all over the peninsula. In my opinion, just about perfect!Veg on the side was more than a side dish. Bright flavors popped and each vegetable retained it's own characteristics. Really good.Something new - they served paper-thin slices of radish with the bulgogi. The recommendation is to wrap a piece of meat in the radish and eat. I tried it at the owner's urging and really liked the change in the dish that her approach brought.I don't get to Owensboro often but will most certainly be back to have more great Korean food here!I should also mention that the salmon hand roll was perfect. Had I gone for a sushi dinner, I probably would have been very happy. That said, I have a hard enough time finding good Korean so I was delighted when I spotted those stainless steel chopsticks!

We tried to dine here for an early lunch 11:30 on a Saturday, only to see they didn't open until noon for lunch. Came in the following Saturday, and noted only 1 person dining there. Greeted warmly by the sweetest lady, who was also our server. They offer sushi and hibachi dishes, but we were interested in the Korean offerings. We ordered the Bibimbap, as well as the Spicy Pork Soup. (Sundubu Jigae) Surprisingly, they did not bring banchan. We asked for some Kimchee, and our server told us they don't bring it anymore because " people thought it was stinky". She did give us a small potion. It was delicious. The Bibimbap was fantastic, we both agreed. The spicy pork soup was not what I expected. The base appeared to be the miso soup that they serve with a hibachi meal, not a rich red broth. I love spicy food, but they used sliced jalapeños and whole dried Thai chilies to make the soup spicy. It was just not too appetizing. On the plus side, the decor is beautiful, clean and romantic. Another star down because it took nearly 30 minutes to get our lunch. I would like to give them another try in the future, and perhaps upgrade my rating. ( fingers crossed)

I traveled to Owensboro Ky for work. I was hungry for Sushi and googled places in the area. This place came highly recommended. The little lady who met me at the door was so friendly and so helpful. She packaged up my food and gave me special sauce that I requested. She was nothing but complimentary of my attitude and willingness to be helped. The restaurant was beautiful, warm and welcoming. It was crowded with people so I knew it was popular. This is a hidden little gem in a strip mall. Quick, friendly and delicious!

This place is just a hidden treasure! We absolutely love the food, however there is just something about the way we are treated when we are there! It is literally like family. The owners are amazing people! I love this place and every single item from the sushi, miso soup, kimchi , Hibachi.... are absolutely delicious and very authentic! Im so glad we found this place !!

We stopped here while in Owensboro for our annual trip to Holiday World. Our daughter had sushi and loved it, but the jigae and bimbimbop was incredible. The woman who took our order let us know she made the Korean food we ordered. It was so good, best jigae I've had and I'm KY of all places. Highly recommended!

A different location but same great food, service, and atmosphere. A new favorite day date spot. If you order the Philadelphia roll, ask for smoked salmon.

This place was very slow in terms of customers on a Thursday night. It gave me pause, but I decided to stay and I'm glad I did. Excellent sushi rolls at great prices. Staff/owners were extremely friendly and accommodating. Great experience! Whenever I get back to Owensboro for business I will come here every time.

Mikato Steak & Sushi is our go to place for the freshest sushi! Their hibachi is great, everything we try is delicious! Great service, nice atmosphere, reasonable prices, you can't beat it! If you haven't tried it you are missing out!

We were visiting from Evansville and had a great experience dining here! The staff was so friendly, especially the owner Jenny and the food was delicious. I wish I could give it more stars. Highly recommend!
