Playground area is well-maintained and provided a welcome play break for a 3 and 5-year-old on a recent road trip. We played, picnicked and passed some time relaxing before hopping back on the interstate. Fall is a lovely time to visit. There is a huge tree on the corner and its red, orange and gold leaves, as well as the foliage from all the trees around the park, made it a pretty as well as fun stop. We were also treated to the sights and sounds of a train passing just a couple blocks over, which was lots of fun for the kids, as well as the beautiful music of bells from a nearby church playing some of our favorite hymns while we ate. There are two covered picnic pavillions and a paved parking lot. There are also restrooms but during our Covid visit, they were locked. So, do what we did and visit the Artist Village Welcome Center (separate review) a block down the street for another fun adventure and restrooms. We also visited the Memorial from whence the park gets it's name. From World War I to the Iraq War, local veterans are honored with flags and an engraved marker and I was happy to read their names and honor their service as well.
