Tonight was the first time I have ever been there. Tuesdays and Thursdays are their fried chicken nights. We were the only people in the restaurant until 40 minutes later. There were no appetizers. The chicken is made to order. The crust of the chicken was a beautiful brown. The sides are kind of small. I got the greens and a potato cake. The sides are about three bites. No military discounts. This tavern has been there since 1885. Think about the thousands of people that have walked in that place. Will return. I wish the chicken batter was spicier. Their chicken is good.

Love me a great dive bar, and this place 100% delivers. Love that Abita Purple Haze is always on draft, and lots of food specials- they are known for fried chicken. Nice outdoor seating.

Oh man did we have some fun in here. We walked down to this bar after taking an Uber to a wedding reception at the Mellwood Arts Center. We set up shop at the first table near the band they had in the corner. We arrived prior to the band starting and the bar started to fill up quickly after the band started their sets. There was not a waitress but there were a couple bartenders so we walked up to the bar to get our drinks. I also had a decent hamburger. Fun little spot and we were glad we found it.

I can't say anything about the famous fried chicken other than you will smell like oil when you leave the place. I didn't eat. I will comment on service. The employees were not nice. No one smiles, everyone is miserable and makes you feel very unwelcome. Maybe if you are a regular and been coming for years it's different, who knows because I won't be back. In a city with plentiful options I'm moving on.

I love dive bars and this is one of my favorites. The staff is great, the building is beautiful, they have a good selection of beer and bourbon, and the food is incredible (especially fried chicken on Tuesdays and Thursdays).

This is a nice little neighborhood bar with a great patio when the weather is nice. My first visit was on a Thursday -- so I got to try their chicken dinner. The chicken was okay. Pretty flaky, which I like. The greens is a hard no for me. It's not savory or flavorful -- just very tart. The wine pours could be a bit more heavy. Service was pretty slow, but understandable since they were pretty steady the whole night. As a low key bar, I'd definitely be back.

Let's just start out by saying that I don't hand out 5 stars often. This little dive bar won me over the minute that I walked in the door. Fried chicken is only available once or twice a week, and this is why we came. I believe Thursday was the night we were in town. So, when in Kentucky, you eat local, drink local, and just relax and have a good time. The staff was awesomely excellent and had everything we needed with a smile. Now, when I say dive bar, I mean it. The cook was making fried chicken in a tiny open room right next to the bar with 2 fryers and all of the sides were in crock pots. So, if that doesn't sound like your kind of spot, mozy on elsewhere. Thus is the kind of spot we all should have in our neighborhood, and I'm glad I know another good place to hang out in East Louisville now.

Holy mother of fried chicken! Tuesday and Thursday are chicken nights and this was my first time digging my teeth into this sublime meat. I am a *self proclaimed* fried chicken aficionado and this may be the most perfect chicken dinner I've ever eaten. Perfectly crunchy, not greasy, generous portions of chicken and the sides were just as delicious. (I would say the pintos and potato cake were ahead of the pack though.) I will certainly be back for the chicken, for the atmosphere, for the drinks, (and for the music when it's warm again)!
