Was in town exploring a couple of distilleries and decided to stop in the museum on the way out of town. Wish we would have stopped in earlier so we could have checked out the other museums in the area. There are lots of weapons in the museum and lots of stories told in the artifacts. We will have to come back to explore the other museums.

A small but interesting museum in Frankfort chock full of military history. If you are a member of the Kentucky Historical Society you get in free along with admission to the old state capitol and the history museum itself. If not a member your $8 fee includes all of the above mentioned. They do offer discounts to veterans I believe. One more thing there is a research library on the second floor of the history museum. I and my wife have researched our family history there a number of times. And as a member it is free also.

This museum is the companion to the main KY state museum down the hill and included in the total price of admission. Two stories of military history of KY in the arsenal building; oldest displays on the first floor and WW1 and later on 2d floor. The state as well as KY citizens are featured (such as only KY solider awarded Medal of Honor in WW1). Limited amount of free parking next to building. We took about an hour to tour the exhibits. We are from TX and was impressed with the effort KY put into honoring its state and citizens.

My boys were very interested in museum. The docent was quite informative. My fourth grader used the museum as his Kentucky Day research project.

What a sweet little museum. a ground floor and upstairs working through all the conflicts from the Civil War all the way through our contemporary wars. self guided tour shouldn't take you more than an hour to read and absorb all the information that is displayed. the Medal of Honor displayed in the story behind is wonderful. the to display swords are presented to the governor are beautiful. the displays of guns and muskets is really nice. You'll have to come to see all the rest. I liked it a lot

This place was great! Had amazing displays and the two men behind the desk were terrific. One of them who was a Marine Veteran talked to us about some the WW2 displays and the other told us all about the history of the building and showed old pictures of the building after I told him I loved learning about history. Highly recommend this place.

The Kentucky Military History Museum is an excellent source for those who wish to further their exegesis of Kentucky Civil War History. One prime example of this Civil War Kentucky History is to read my recently published Ky. Civil War historical fiction novel about the Ky. Battle of Mill Springs entitled, "The Parsons' Sons" (ISBN 978-1-946250-38-4). It has been approved and accepted into the Research Collections of The Filson Historical Society as well as The Battle of Mill Springs National Battlefield Center and Cemetery in Nancy, Kentucky. I wish to send a complementary copy of this Ky. Civil War novel to The Kentucky Military Historical Society and also to The Kentucky Military Historical Museum. Would you please advise as to whom I may send these two complementary copies to achieve my objective.Much Thanks,Dr. John Mark Carter, Professor EmeritusKentucky Colonel, Listed in Multiple Editions of Who's Who Among America's TeachersMember of The Filson Historical SocietyFacebook for Other Universities and Public Libraries Now Carrying the Novel: John Mark Carter.
