[This review was written and posted July 2020 but the bright sparks at Yelp merged it with another review and they can't or won't fix it. I was told to repost it. Thanks for nothing, Yelp!]Recently reopened post-coronavirus, this is the official state museum of the Commonwealth of Kentucky (bonus point if you can name the other three "Commonwealth" states). With complete social distancing and some of the interactive displays marked off, there's a lot of history and information to take in here. The path of the exhibits takes you through the early settlement and then the Colonial times, the age of the Civil War, post-war and to modern times. Some of the Civil Rights and slavery displays may be a little distressing to some, but it's important information and critical stories that need to be told. The hall of governors is interesting to see all the faces through the ages. There is free wifi and they have clean restrooms.[Review 17256 overall - 151 in Kentucky - 774 of 2022.]

Neat area to visit while visiting the state capital of Kentucky. This is basically a Kentucky museum that takes you through the history of our fine state. I've attended this place a few times over the years on cals field trips with my daughters. While the place is still beneficial and educational for the kiddos they do tend to lose focus a bit as it isn't the most interactive exhibits. However a lot of fun and knowledge can be gained by visiting this location. Very good place to visit if your curious about the history of Kentucky.

I love a state history museum, and was happy to see they had reopened when we went to visit (July 2). No one else was there but they clearly were conscientious about health - staff wearing masks and sanitizer everywhere. Learned a lot and could have covered more - only had 1.5 hours. More thorough than lots of state museums I've been to.

I visited the library but would love to return to see the rest of the museum. At just $4 (discounted rates available) and free to visit the library, this is a bargain. My own trip to Frankfort was to find some books that aren't available at the LFPL. One particular book I needed is one of only 5 copies ever published, making me feel equal parts special and terrified to handle it. The staff at the library was friendly and helpful, signing me up for a KHS library card, explaining how and where to stash my purse (not allowed in the library, just 25 cents to lock up and you get your quarter back at the end), and retrieving some of the materials I needed while I was there. The building is beautiful. It's a recently-built brick structure with a huge lobby, grand staircase, high ceilings in the library, and a bright, organized gift shop. It's located across from the train tracks and a large parking lot; I parked on the street near the old state capitol, so I'm not sure if parking is free or not. I got some of what I needed on my visit to KHS, but will look forward to returning soon to see even more!

I am working on genealogy research and this Library / research center is fantastic! I only wish I lived closer. There are many fantastic books for each county in Kentucky and many many files on surnames with other people's requests so you can see who is doing research on the same family names. This is a very quiet library as there were very few people there theses at two days. It makes for easy and quick access to machines / records. And the staff is fantastic! They are so very helpful.
