A Tour in Progress

I arrived at the Keeneland welcome center to check on tix for this weekend. Turns out all ticket purchases are made online. Then I saw there were tours. Mary, the tour coordinator, was at the welcome desk. She said the morning tours were over for the day, but she could give me a quick look around. Well she went above and beyond! I was able to see the clubhouse, the Makers Mark room, and a few other really neat spots with great views of the track. Sadly Saturday's race is sold out, and Sunday is Easter, so the track is closed, but I feel like I've already experienced so much of Keeneland. If we don't get tickets for this week, it was well worth my impromptu visit to check it out, all thanks to Mary's friendliness, and her knowledge of the property's interesting history.

I loved this tour. I normally am not one for guided tours, but this one was great. Shoutout to Mike the movie star tour guide who taught us history and horses. We also got to see the set ups from the Secretariat film. Pro tip: arrive a half hour early as the grounds are free to walk around on and explore.

Last week I had a tour of Keeneland with my family. We were visiting from California and were excited to see and learn about the beautiful race track and facilities. We were fortunate to be on a scheduled tour with Mary! Mary was beyond a delight- her knowledge of and passion for Keeneland was incredible. She guided us thru back doors and passages while sharing historic stories and facts. Mary was not only a professional tour guide, she doubled as a personal photographer. Mary assisted with poises, angles, and lighting- all with the intent of capturing our special family day at Keeneland. Thank you to Keeneland and to Mary for making our day an unforgetable Kentucky memory. **Mary ALSO helped us to schedule a tour at a bourbon distillery- over and above!
