On December 13, 2024, my brother and I had the pleasure of dining at Jim Dandy--a Portsmouth classic. I somehow missed eating at this place growing up in Southern Ohio. I'm kicking myself for not visiting sooner!Scratch burgers are having a resurgence with places like Smashburger, Shake Shack, In-Out etc. This is a Portsmouth Classic if you are looking for a local flavor of a scratch burger.We both tried the iconic Big Mo, and wow--what a burger. Freshly made, perfectly cooked, and great flavor. The inside seating is cozy and nostalgic, with a counter option for a more classic diner vibe. Also, you can enjoy your meal in the comfort of your car, true drive-in style.What truly set this experience apart for me was learning the rich history of Jim Dandy. I was fascinated to discover that the business was started in 1965 by a former owner of three Frisch's Big Boy locations in the Portsmouth area. The story behind its origins added a whole new layer of appreciation for this local treasure.If you're in the area, do yourself a favor and stop by Jim Dandy. It's not just a meal; it's a bite of Portsmouth's history served with a side of charm.

Prices are way too high for the quality of food. A $5 Big Mo should at least get a full slice of cheese ‍

Iconic local burger joint. Food is fresh and well prepared. Tastes great. Lots of options on the menu. Side dishes are delicious. Service is fast and personable.

Went here tonight after my girlfriend kept hyping this place up for 5 months. I can fully say that it was absolutely divine and lived up to the hype. Definitely the best burger and pop meal in the area. The strawberry pie was fantastic as well.

Great food sweet people convenient drive up small inside recommend the big mo and Coke .

This little Portsmouth Restraint doesn't look like a lot but has one of the most affordable and tastiest foods around Portsmouth. Personally my favorite is the Big Joe meal that comes with a sand which, fries and a small coke. Another thing I like about them is that The waitresses every time I go, are the nicest people every and efficient. They don't hesitate to help you at all. I would recommend this Portsmouth restaurant to any who comes through the area.

Great service, dine inside or eat inside your car and also picnic tables for those nice days

I got a Swiss Miss it was supposed to be on a Rye bun and it was on white toasted bread and it was tasteless and bread was very hard. We will never eat there again.

Best burgers around, best food in general. Service was fast and efficient. Really good stuff and still going strong

I ordered breakfast this morning and I ordered three chocolate milks and it tasted like water and my biscuits and gravy came with something on it fully don't recommend
