Seems to be a common theme.. I picked my senior dog up after only two nights there and she was filthier and smellier than she's ever been in her life. It smells and looks like she's been laying in her own urine. I board her very regularly but the normal one was full, she has NEVER came home smelling or looking like this even after a week of kenneling. The smell was so strong I couldnt stand having my windows up or down, it just blew it around. I called and they did offer me a refund but I'm terrified she's going to follow suit of the other reviews and be sick. They offered to give her a bath if I brought her back which I kindly declined. I would not trust them with her again. She attempted to blame the smell on the fact it had rained but this isn't wet dog smell, it's pure urine. And on another note - they do not leash dogs when you drop them off or pick them up. It seemed odd when I dropped her off that I had to insist the girl leave a leash on because she wouldn't follow her without it. Then when I picked her up, a giant huskie was let out into the lobby completely unrestrained. This isn't safe and it's not appropriate. There could have been children, or other dogs, or anything that would make for a dangerous situation with an unknown and very large dog. I would NEVER recommend taking your pet here.

We will not be using Hickman Creek again. We took our Goldendoodle, Riley, for a week during our spring break trip to Florida. She had not been feeling well prior to going, but our veterinarian said it was gastroenteritis and prescribed medication, telling us that the kennel could administer the meds and she would be fine.As another reviewer said, she was supposed to have been given a bath on the day of pickup, and we were charged for the bath, but she smelled awful and was visibly dirty and greasy to the touch. We had to take her directly from the kennel to the pet store to give her a bath, with the kids complaining the whole way about how terrible she smelled. The hair on top of her head was so matted that it couldn't be brushed, and I had to trim it down to the skin. She has several other spots that we will have to let the groomer take care of once the hair on her head grows out enough to take her. My wife later called and was assured that she did, indeed, have a bath that morning. The medicine had instructions on the bottle and we verbally gave the employee the instructions when we dropped her off. She was to be given the medication until it was gone, which would have happened toward the end of the week. When we arrived, after they tried to give us the WRONG DOG, they gave us the medication bottle back and it still had pills left. After getting her home, it became clear that she was still not well. We took her back to our vet for an additional $250, where she was diagnosed with severe gastroenteritis and prescribed more of the same medication. After administering the medication properly, she is now back to her old self.

I have always taken my dogs to Hickman Creek. The staff is friendly and take care of our dogs we usually board them 4-5 times a year and they usually are there over a week 2-3 of those times. Dogs always are excited to get out of the car. When we walk in they always recognize our dogs and I don't even have to tell them who they are. I would recommend this kennel.

Workers really are good people and love dogs. I have boarded our dog there twice and he loved visiting. They offer grooming prior to pick up.

We will never go back to Hickman Creek Kennels. We are new to the Lexington area and wanted to find a kennel that we could trust with our family pet, Ace. We picked up Ace from a week of boarding with Hickman Creek, he was supposed to have been given a bath, we got charged for it, but he stunk terribly. In fact, Hickman Creek didn't return our bag or leftover dog food. Later that night Ace started throwing up. The two days that followed were exhausting...uncontrollable throw up and diarrhea. We couldn't leave Ace alone, we were up all night taking care of him. We got Ace into the vet, they treated him for possible parasites and administered two cycles of fluids because he was extremely dehydrated. Thankfully Ace started feeling better after about three days of antibiotics and special dietary food. He had a bit of cabin fever so we went to take him on a walk and while placing his harness on realized it was broken and unusable. We provided Hickman Creek the harness to take Ace on his daily scheduled 10-minute nature walks, which we paid additional for. Hickman returned the harness without notifying us that it had been broken, no explanation, nothing. We notified Hickman Creek Kennels and have not received a response from them. We would do anything for our pets to provide them the best quality care available. We thought Hickman Creek was a responsible and reputable business. Our experience with Hickman Creek cost us over $700.

The Worst!!! Too bad we cannot give negative stars... We took our families dog their over the weekend and when we got him home he became extremely ill. After a $700 vet bill he did survive whatever illness he contracted while in their care. Paid for a bath and walks, dog smelled horrible and our harness for walks was broken when we picked him up. We contacted the kennel and they did not respond. Worst expirence ever with a kennel. Stay Away!
