I've been making an effort to shop locally, and what better place than the best farmers' market in Kentucky! It's been amazing the past several weeks getting to try extremely fresh produce, some veggies I would normally turn away from (beets, turnips), and some veggies I've never tried (garlic scales, kohlrabi). Aside from just vegetables, there's several vendors that have a bunch of varieties and cuts of meat (beef, pork, chicken, lamb). There's jam, flowers, honey, baked goods, eggs, and so much more. My favorite is when they have mushrooms, and if they find a cheese vendor it's over for my bank account and my diet!I'm so happy to be able to support and get my vitamins in a sustainable, community-oriented way. I come here every week and you all should too!

I love coming here during the open season. The different vendors are always super friendly and helpful. They have farm vegetables, handmade soaps, flowers, grass feed meats, sometimes fresh bread. I am always pleased with my produce and the quality and price. They have a porter potty and sometime a couple a food trucks on Saturday mornings. Parking can be a little tricky depending on what time you get there. The earlier the better.

Fairly small, especially on Wednesdays, especially when you consider how many small producers are in this area. There's a small pavilion that provides sun and weather coverage and makes this market a lot more comfortable than those in random parking lots. While it can't compete with the farmer's markets in Louisville or other larger areas (even remotely) or those locations that turn markets into social occasions or add food trucks, live music, etc., there are some highlights: great eggs and meat / chickens (Wild Mint Farm), some nice canned products (a few different sources), as well as pretty much what you would expect as far as produce (including Hinton's on Saturdays, usually), though things seem a little slower than usual this year as far as variety goes.Saturdays: if you can't get there by 9, probably not worth the stop. Which makes me really sad.Probably more of a 2.5 or 3 star rating when compared to other farmers markets, but as compared to similar options available at the grocery locally (if you're able to get there at the crack of dawn), a definite 4 stars.ETA: there is a recycling drop-off semi located conveniently nearby. Yay for multi-tasking!

We drove down to the market, today, looking for Green Beans. There was only one vendor, operated by an Amish family, that had them displayed. They were priced at $3 a pound. There is, about,30 lbs. in a bushel. That equals $90 a bushel. I understand market value and supply and demand. I also can see price gouging when I see it. This was that at its best. The Amish in Sonora sell them for $30 a bushel. It might be a good idea to walk past their booth until they come back into line with their pricing. I know they came from Brownsville, KY, but that was unnecessary.
