Oktoberfest 2024! We had a fantastic time and even met Fritz and Frieda! Grabbed a nice big picnic table in the outdoor beer garden and 9 of us enjoyed pretzels, sauerkraut balls, brats, schnitzel dinners with German potato salad, red cabbage, and imported beer. So much imported beer. :)Music was fabulous and we enjoyed people watching -- lederhosen, dirndls, kids and adults of all ages, and a full dance floor. We even did the chicken dance a few times over the course of the evening. Didn't want it to end. Cannot wait until next year.

Mark this one under "hidden gems" and "local flavor." I've attended a few events at the German American Club over the years and it's always a good time. I first went for Oktoberfest several years ago with a group of friends, where we ended up running into more friends. We were all there for the fun atmosphere outdoors and gathering together, which is what the GAC is for. Most recently I attended the Maifest. I'm in a new season of life, and the words "family friendly" on an event means we will definitely check it out. The whole fam packed into the car and headed down that way. Same lively outdoor vibe, but this time we also appreciated the petting zoo, the play set and sidewalk chalk, and the number of kids running around the same age as our own. No matter when you go, definitely grab some food. We got some brats in the early afternoon, then went through the line for the German dinner when it started at 5. It was Schnitzel all around, some delicious potato salad, and red cabbage and spätzle, plus the sauerkraut balls. Not only was it filling and delicious, I love an event that means I don't have to cook at home later! Seating was abundant - both outdoors and under the covered patio with huge fans, and also indoors (which felt air conditioned). We had a great time and are looking forward to the next Biergarten this Summer to check out!

How is it that I never knew about this place in Louisville?? Perhaps because I am not...German in any way?? But I felt perfectly welcomed here when I went for the first time a few weeks ago. This is a happy place for everyone! There is beer, of course. There is a band that plays in the covered outdoor biergarten the entire time. Singles, couples and families all participate in the festivities! Then there is the food! Oh, my...it is like quality German food served simply, priced like fish fry levels. Hubby and I got two big plates of meat and potatoes for about $20!! And those saurkraut balls are so delicious, even to someone like me who doesn't like saurkraut!! You must get some if they are available! Needless to say, we will be back soon enough.

What a fun night.......there were people of all ages here. Eating authentic German food, drinking German beer, German band and dancing. The weather was terrific, there was a nice breeze blowing and plenty of shade under the large patio. The band was playing in a garage type area. There were bars set up in each place. This was all outside. They sold plenty of other items for the non drinkers as well.

Went for an event the other day. They had a very small petting zoo all squished together in one small area. All we did was just step all over each other. Not sure if they needed more room or if they didn't have enough staff to spread the animals out. Didn't see several of the food items mentioned being sold. Husband loved the beer of course. Most disappointing thing was the pretzels and cheese. $5 for a tiny cup of cold cheese and the pretzel was supposed to be As BIG as your head! That's what was advertised. There's no way that was a fresh pretzel - more like just some frozen one they warmed up. So very disappointed! Sausage and peppers smells good but we went for the pretzels and beer so we left. Parking is crazy if you have never been there.

I highly recommend visiting the German American Club for their annual Oktoberfest and their Biergarten nights in the summer. In comparison to many other German events, the German American Club hosts pretty authentic and homely get-togethers with great German beers and food. The prices are reasonable and the quality of the food is good. I really appreciate the live music as well. I think the indoor space is a little outdated but it also adds to the charm. Can't wait for next year's Oktoberfest.
