While driving the 65 HWY, my husband and I decided to make a stop at Farmwald Dutch Bakery and Deli yesterday, around 11:40 am since we saw the sign that advertised as an "Amish bakery". We came in and saw the large display case right by the register, which caught our eye. We ended up purchasing:Apple Dumpling, $3.99 prior to tax- I have never had an apple dumpling before so I decided to order it. There is a whole, peeled apple inside a pastry dough that has a nice browning crust of sugar. The pastry itself was a little doughy on the inside and think it should have been baked a little bit longer. But the apple inside was nice. I liked the cinnamon on the inside and liked that the apple had a nice light tart flavor that went well with that cinnamon. The dough on the outside that was baked through was good though. This definitely inspires me to try to make my own apple dumpling on my own. Super Size Cinnamon Roll, $4.88 prior to tax- My husband decided to get the cinnamon roll (please note that you can also purchase a "mini" size as well (but not sure what the size looks like since I didn't see any in the display case but I know they had some, as the girl helping us did ask what size my husband wanted). I didn't have any but my husband did like the cinnamon roll and said it tasted like it was baked earlier that day. --------------------------------- (Total= $7.87 after tax)Service was friendly for the most part. The two counters were run by 2 younger girls. I saw one older man helping to unbox and restock the shelves. I liked that this bakery did have plenty of different baked goods, including freshly baked bread as well (I really wanted to get the cheese bread loaf but didn't think we would be able to finish it all on our current vacation). There is a dining area with tables and chairs in case you wish to consume your purchased items on site. You can also get sandwiches, breakfast burritos and burgers if you are feeling rather hungry on our drive. Overall, I would definitely make a stop here if I was pass through this area again.

Not impressed. We had breakfast here on March 29th and the young girl running the register seemed lost. Was not welcoming at all & didn't explain how the ordering/pick up process worked. Food was mediocre at best. I had a disaster of a breakfast burrito, it was huge, but strangely enough was completely tasteless. Hubs had biscuits & gravy...he said it was 'ok'. He got eggs & bacon; the bacon was so burnt that it was inedible and his eggs were also strangely tasteless. We had been looking forward to a glorious Amish breakfast like we have experienced at so many other Amish places. What a bummer. The shop nothing great...overpriced items and only very little looked enticing in the bakery area. Hubs got a couple of the small glazed donuts and he said they were good, which earned the second star.

Have driven past this place countless times in my life & never stopped but today I decided to grab lunch here on my way back to Nashville. I came at 11:05 & it was already busy with a long line at the ordering counter. The line gave me time to evaluate my options & make a solid choice so I wasn't too bothered. I will say this crowd here on a Thursday was an interesting bunch to say the least so great place for people ing. I ordered the roast beef sandwhich add mushroom & onion as well as a cherry fried pie. The fried pie helped me pass the time waiting for my order which took probably close to 30 mins to get. The pie reminded me of the hostess paper wrapped ones from vending machines or checkout lines b/c it was dipped in sugar & had nothing but filling & no actual fruit. I initially liked it because I was hungry & having to wait awhile but I'd give it a 2/5 pies on the pie rating index if there was such a thing. As far as the sandwhich it was excellent. Came out wrapped in foil & pipping hot. Thick pieces of roast beef & tons of onions & mushrooms on grilled sourdough. Only thing it missed was cheese but I can add it next time & will. Also picked up some cookies for my wife & a oatmeal whoopie pie for later. Pie was good but the chocolate chipcookies had an odd aftertaste. Probably made from a mix an not scratch but who knows. I'll try out some other things here next time I can as there were tons of doughnuts & cakes. 4 marks for a really good sandwhich.

I'm with the 2 recent reviewers (Diana D and Judy J) I would never send a fellow Yelper here. The pulled pork was just a reheated grocery store pulled pork in too much sweet BBQ sauce. No sides, that's what you get. The French fries (purchased separately) had been frozen moments before. We like to eat at local establishments when we travel. This was not local cuisine. Got a fried pie, it just tasted like grease. Whoopie Pie WAS good though.Appeared 2 teen girls were running everything. Zero ambiance. No warm welcome. Order at the counter, claim your own food, bus your own table.

Food was delicious. Very friendly staff. Fast service. Cool little gift shop with a variety of different Amish made items and homemade desserts that look absolutely amazing. Had the pretzel bun sliders and fried pickles. The Fried Pickles were made from fresh made pickles! Love it!!!!

I came into town for Mammoth Cave, and on our way back home we tried this place as my boyfriend's mom had heard wonderful things! The service was good, the girls were very sweet but to me it seems evident they are a bit overwhelmed and also a bit young to be running the place on their own. Regardless, our food was tasty and home cooked. We got a roast beef sandwich, a chicken wrap, and a BLT. I would say it was worth the price. We also grabbed a few sweet treats that were yummy as well! Overall, I would come again. I would also look forward to trying their breakfast.

We visited today for lunch. While our food was good, there were a couple of real issues. The price quoted online and in the restaurant were less than what we were charged. The Crispy Chicken Wrap and Fish Sandwich were listed as $7.99 but we were charged $8.27. The French Fries with the kids cheeseburger were listed as $2.99 and we were charged $3.61.The cashiers clearly didn't know what they were doing and could not fix the problem as they truly had a tough time making change for a cash payment.Minor, but still an issue, I ordered a plain fish sandwich (allergy to the cheese) but the cashier didn't request plain and I got cheese. The staff fixed it, but from entry to departure, no one welcomed or thanked us. So much potential but cannot recommend this location until problems are corrected.
