Finally returned to dine in on a Sunday at 6pm to check out the beautiful new renovation. Definitely a lot more modern. We were seated quickly and service was excellent (the bartender was serving our table). There were severalopen tables.Thanks to the 2 for 1 margarita special on Sundays, I ordered a frozen mango margarita with a sugar rim. It had a decent amount of alcohol but the mango syrup was super sweet. Maybe the house or another flavor would be better.Our server brought out chips and salsa quickly too. Both were pretty standard and tasted like packaged chips and salsa you can get from the store. Not terrible, just not freshly made or seasoned in a particular way.Ordered the seafood enchiladas for dinner. It came out super fast! But the taste was lackluster too. Other than being lightly salted, there weren't any distinctive flavors. Not even lime or lemon. The tortillas did not taste like they were freshly made (they were definitely packaged) and weren't even warmed up. The enchilada sauce was good and warm but it was the only thing that had any real flavor. Maybe they rely on the sauce to make the rest of it good. All around a pretty dissatisfying meal for me but my bf liked his food (tacos lomo and peach margarita on the rocks). The space is beautiful and the staff are nice.

My husband and I dined around 5pm for our first time at El Charro. We were sat quickly and I ordered a Fresh Watermelon Margarita right away and it was delicious. My husband ordered different flavors of margaritas that he was offered as available margaritas only each time after he picked one our waitress returned to tell him that wasn't available while naming other flavors which also ended up unavailable as well. He ended up also going with a Fresh Watermelon Margarita! Haha They were both strong and delicious. After that everything went smoothly. The restaurant is pretty small but it never felt packed or even busy, though it's pretty bare compared to other Mexican restaurants as far as decor. The food overall was delicious! I had the shrimp tacos and the shrimp had a nice mustard and breading fried coating. Surprisingly everything tasted great together. We had a nice meal at El Charro!

Taco Week, so we went to El Charro. The usual chips and salsa came to the table and accompanied our Cucumber Jalapeno Margarita. The salsa wasn't as spicy as I like, but I was hungry. The Margarita had good heat, but they forgot to salt the rim. The taco choice was limited to al Pastor or vegetarian, so you know which I chose. They were tasty and stuffed. Also, had a Chile Relleno a la carte, one of my faves. This was my first time at El Charro. I'm a patio person so we sat outside. Service was good. Would return.41

Visiting from South Texas, and found this wonderful El Charro Mexican Restaurant in Lexington...The food and service was incredible! Took a very large group for lunch and the food came out in a timely manner, it was not rushed, presentation and quality and portions were excellent! This place is close to home. We have gone here several times over the years. The last time we went, before tonight, it was sort of meh. Tonight, it was not good. Three of us sat down. They gave us two menus. The chips were tough. We asked the server about happy hour, drinks, she sort of shrugged. No drink menu. So, we didn't order margaritas. Never been to a Mexican place that didn't actively try to sell alcohol. Oh well. I ordered Chile Verde. Spouse ordered Carnitas. Child ordered a burrito and tamale.My chile verde was mostly chunks of fat. They gave me three very tough tortillas. The sauce was okay, beans and rice standard. Not at all spicy as indicated on the menu.My spouse's carnitas were clearly the gristle and fat chunks cut out of larger pieces of pork. Nearly inedible--almost entirely fat and gristle. She ate a bit and gave up. They brought her corn tortillas, she ordered flour tortillas. My child ate about half of her dinner--said the tamale was too rich and the chicken burrito plain and dry.The place can be loud. The after Keeneland crowd was there and super loud (i.e. drunk). Not the fault of the restaurant, necessarily, but my ears were literally ringing when we left, it was so loud. At $16-20 a piece, the pricing isn't crazy for food, but definitely high for the low quality we received. Drinks were pricy last time we were there, but I can't comment this time, since we didn't get drinks. Very underwhelming. I see no reason to return.
