El Caporal

It appears that it's recently been rebranded Mesa de la Familia but if you've been to El Caporal in the past take comfort in knowing that the menu and the food you've come to expect will be available. I'm generally torn between one of three things: Beef Tip Chimichanga (fried), Chilies Poblanos Rellenos, or De Mole. The Chimi is my favorite as the beef tip falls apart in a gloriously shredded and mouthwateringly juicy fashion. The Rellenos is perfect when I'm not as hungry (or I've managed to eat way more chips and salsa than I thought I would and perhaps a language barrier resulted in my cerveza containing 20 more fluid ounces than I intended - there are worse things that can happen). De mole is the sort of dish that I reach for when I want a meal that is uniquely Mexican; I could be wrong but I don't think think mole makes it on the menu at many other Mexican restaurants and sometimes it just feels right to order the "meal of the ancient Aztec gods."

Very good selection of Mexican food to choose from. When we walked in and saw the different hot sauces on the table I knew this was the real deal. Very tasty and the service was very welcoming.

Not the place to go for authentic tacos. You will find better tacos that are cheaper in almost any other Mexican restaurant/taqueria. The price point doesn't match the quality. I've been here before and eaten other dishes besides tacos and it was okay and wasn't terribly priced. But tacos are not their specialty

One of my favorite Mexican food restaurants in Louisville! The chicken is always super juicy, their queso and salsa is very nice, and the staff is so incredibly welcoming and friendly!

My youngest daughter and I went here for lunch the other day while we were in the area. It was just OK that's why I gave it three stars the meat not very flavorful, not very cut up, taste like canned meat to be honest the chips really dry hard it's also not very flavorful to be honest. My food was pretty good my daughter enjoyed her tacos and the people they were really nice so overall I'd say I'd give it a three sounds about right. And as for on the inside I was OK but I'm not gonna come back with all the other Establishments in the area

The food was great and the service was even better! I was only able to eat half because the portions are generous.

So it's been a year since my friend and I have eaten here. We decided to come here around 4 o'clock on a Saturday. I had to take away a star this visit. More on that here shortly.We were seated promptly but, it took what seemed several minutes for our waitress to take our order. There were only 3 other tables in the restaurant that had people seated so it wasn't that busy when we came in. We got our chips and salsa first of course and a few of the tortilla chips were over cooked. My friend had 2 burritos and I got an $8.99 combo with 2 cheese enchiladas and a hard shell taco. They are very good with the portion of food and our meals were delicious as it always has been. As we were about to leave it took around 20 minutes for us to get our checks and once we finally asked for our checks, our waitress gave us a frustrated look and I'm not sure what that was about. My reason for 3 stars was for the customer service this time around, never had this issue here when coming in a few times before. Of course I still have this as my favorite Mexican restaurant in Louisville but, I hope the next visit will be better.

Now Mesa de la Familia. Brighter and more open on the inside. Delicious food and friendly staff. My favorite Mexican in Louisville!Great for all diet types. Lots of vegetarian items with lots of veggies!

Chicken poblano was the best thing I have ever had. I will eat here many more times before we leave. If you're hungry get over here NOW!!!
