Down Home Diner

I stopped for lunch and this place is inside the gas station. When I got there, I was the only person there and my server came right over. I placed my order and a few minutes later my server brought my food. Everything looked and tasted good. This is a no-frills place, but if you need a quick bite to eat that tastes good, I recommend this place.I will stop here again.

This place is sort of unassuming but don't let that fool you. When you pull up and park to the right of the gas station entrance, you'll see DOWN HOME DINER (& bar)painted on the windows. You have to go through the convenience store to get to the fairly small diner (and bar). The server is attentive and friendly. The tables are clean. The prices are very reasonable. The food came fast and was plentiful. I had the country ham platter ($13.99)with scrambled eggs, toast, & hash browns. My partner had the same except with country fried steak and white gravy($11.99). The eggs were done but not tough. The hash browns were awesome. The meats were cooked correctly and everything was served hot and fresh. We visited at 9 am on a Saturday morning so we didn't partake of their bar selections but the prices on the menu were not at all outlandish. They are open 7a-10p eastern time.

You're first greeted by the signs that say not so spend over an hour parked out front, but that won't be an issue, because there is no one inside to keep you from being first in line. Second, make sure you order any of their delicious burgers. Nothing like an unseasoned, freezer burnt hunk of foam flavored mystery meat. Just like mom used to make. Lastly, make sure you visit the most welcoming urinal in town.

This hidden treasure is found inside the gas station store. Clean with home cooked food. Breakfast served all day! Portions are huge! I had a Southwest Omelette with a biscuit and REAL butter. Too many places have oleo and I can't eat that. My hubby had biscuits with gravy with eggs over easy and sausage. The eggs were perfect and the sausage was browned nicely. They have a kids menu and lots of vegetarian options too. We will be back!

Ordered a burger and fries. Fries tasted bitter, probably old grease. Burger is already precooked in a fridge, and they only cook one side. Should've just left then but I was hungry and didn't eat all day, my fault. Not coming here again. Kitchen looks dirty and greasy and the guy cooking seems like a robot

Double cheese bacon burger was stacked and packed cooked to purrr-fection and just basic fries they were fresh and salted. Now the pictures look at this burger.

Have had good burgers, cooked as I like them, wirth mushrooms and suteed onion, so big could hardly finish but was so tasty I was not going to let that beautiful burger go to waste!! The fries were excellent also, the cook was a friendly guy and the gal that waited on us was very attentive and courteous, and that means a lot, didn't care for the flies buzzing around my food though!I like the idea that the grill is right there and you can watch your food being prepared and even gab with the cook while he prepares your food!! Love to sit at the counter, it's like nack in the day at a local diner, only this is a truck stop, and we all know truckers know where the good food is at!!! So if you are hungry follow a trucker here!!!

I am a huge fan of Truck Stops so I was excited to try The Down Home Diner at Eagle Travel Plaza. This is a small little Diner inside the Travel Plaza. I've been in twice so far and the crew consisted of a cook and waitress both of which were friendly. The Coffee is always hot and strong. Better that I'm used to around here. There are always specials and this Sunday morning was no exception. I ordered The Country Fried Steak which comes with 2 eggs and your choice of Biscuit or Toast. I added a side of hashbrowns just to round out the hearty meal. Just looking around I can see that the portions are definitely above average. I can't imagine anybody leaving hungry. I sure didn't. I really enjoyed my Breakfast this morning. I'm in the area for a while and you can bet I'll be back to The Down Home Diner at Eagle Travel Plaza.

Burger was not good, pinto beans were cool not hot, cornbread was jiffy in a box, and the fries were decent. Two beverage cups were filthy. Water had something black in it. We won't be back. We had high hopes for home cooked food and it all looked and tasted like warmed up pre made food!

I love this little hole in the wall, I always stop here when I'm hungry and headed home. I usually get the veggie omelette, it's always cooked near perfectly, and consistency is usually what I look for in a restaurant.
