The location is not too far from Frankfort, and a longer way from Lexington. I suspect many visitors will be passing through for a distillery tour or something like that because there's not a ton of people around here. But one is reminded of all the splendid Kentucky countryside that is privately owned; it's nice that this is open to the public.A couple of trails run through mildly hilly forest and around a pond. There weren't the sorts of spectacular views you'd expect from a major park, but it's nice hiking and the trails were quite well maintained. A climate controlled bird blind overlooks a pond near the parking area. There was no charge to get in and no one else in sight other than a few deer with winter coats when I dropped by.

This is a nice place to go for a short hike or a walk through the woods. There are a few different trails, mostly less than a mile each. We spent about an hour and a half enjoying the scenery here.

Took the family here for a hike. Nice, wide, well-maintained trails, but despite being a wildlife sanctuary, didn't see a single animal of any kind. Trails are fairly well-marked with paint on trees, but adding marker numbers to the map would be a big help. I was hoping for more scenic views. There's a place that says "view of the gorge", but you can't really see past the trees. No view of the Kentucky River at all from any trails. Donations are voluntary (suggested: $4 per person) and you leave them in a lockbox in an old well near the parking lot. Odd, but guess it works for them. Nice covered pavilion for events with bathrooms, picnic-style tables and a small stage. There's also a bird blind there for bird watching, but we didn't make it to that.

Always a fan of a place to escape and get into nature. This sanctuary is tucked away in a beautiful corner of Kentucky.

Our outdoor play group did a meet up here and was going to do the white and blue trails. But we got literally 100 yards into the path and discovered HUNDREDS of baby ticks on all 10 members (including the kids). A few of our members were removing ticks for over 30 minutes. We stayed on the trail the whole time. And we all had bug spray on. We understand nature is nature but this is just unacceptable for an kept trail recommended for families and a place that host events. We will only do this in the winter from now on.
