I wanted to update my stars to reflect the new outdoor playgrounds that have been added at the FAC. Huge progress over the older equipment that was there when we first moved to this town. My children are now 8 and 10 and I still feel they can enjoy the playground. It offers something for children of all sizes. The inside facilities could still use some updates. The workout area is still not something I feel drawn to use as it is squeezed into an area that all people pass through on their way to class, the pool, or any other parts of the facility. The area is dark and glum and, since I have enough trouble finding self-motivation to work out, this is something I'd like to see changed. I'm not sure the facility has a better space for it, but daylight and more openness would go a long way in improving this experience. Kudos to the facility for offering a variety of classes ranging from fitness (including yoga, swimming, Zumba and more) to after-school care and even guitar lessons. It is a well-rounded facility that all ages can benefit from. I have seen seniors doing aqua aerobics and there is a small daycare room for the younger children. This could be improved with increased toys and activities, but it is offered and can help a mom get a workout in when she otherwise might not.

Not worth the price for a big family. The weight room is very very small and I have yet to have a good experience at this place.

From the children's summer camp (which offers a variety of fun activities) to the golf course, the sports, the play ground and the pool, this is one of the best parts about living in shelbyville. My son loves the summer camp!! We play golf here quite a bit too and can't beat the price! They recently renovated the outdoor park and it's so nice! The kids love it too! There's also an outdoor walking trail.

This was the spot I would go to during the summer months when I was in high school because there was not much else parkwise in the area. However, that was over 10 years ago. I recently went back there with my daughter during the unusually warm February and was pleasantly surprised to see the growth this park has experienced. There is a much larger playground area with a gate surrounding. The playground has several different areas, swings and a castle type one that is three stories high. The gated area has a shaded picnic table spot so parents can sit comfortably and watch their kiddos play. The pool area was obviously closed but it seemed to be large enough for a community of town members to enjoy. There are baseball fields, tennis courts, a golf course and soccer fields. There is a nice walk away, with mile markers going around the fields that have trash bins and bags for your pup's poo. I enjoyed our time there and will continue to visit this park.

Golf course and activity center where pretty good but what really caught my eye was at the lake. Hidden behind the bushes was simply the best pair of canoe rack I've ever seen. The amount to time and effort that was put in to that is just astounding. An even simpler way to put it is a feat of modern technology and a tribute to man.

As far as gyms, they have decent equipment, pools, with the addition of nice outside walking trails, baseball fields, tennis courts, soccer fields, child care, and helpful/friendly staff. They are really involved with the community and let local groups such as knitting and bridge groups use the facility for meetings for free. I really appreciate that they care about the community. However there are some improvements/changes that are needed to make this gym a positive experience for all ages and people. The inside pool is kept at an "extremely" cold temperature all year round, the explanation is that it is kept this way for the professional swimmers. Ive been told that this is great for the professionals and I think it's nice they do this for them. However they need to warm up the water for certain slots of time too; for many people the water is unbearable and the opposite of therapeutic for those coming to exercise in a low intensity environment for their joints. Many of the older population; including my grandma and a significant amount of her friends find that their experience is suffering due to this. Some of them have stopped coming to swim at all because they cannot bear the temperature. I think this is sad that many people miss out on a positive experience and could be fixed if they warned their water at times like other facilities or at least fixed their hot tub that has been broken(and now gone) for several years. Not all of the path of the slippery tile around the pool is covered by the anti-slip mats. This is hazardous especially for younger and older crowds. This could be fixed with the addition of mats to cover these paths. Also; Parking is limited compared to amount of traffic they get.Overall; I enjoy the variety of classes and programs (they offer hot yoga and you don't have to pay extra) they offer and would gladly update my review rating to five stars if they would facilitate the positive changes I listed about the pool.

DIRTY POOL DECKWe found the indoor pools to be inadequately maintained. The first thing you'll notice is that the pool deck is not properly pitched for drainage. On occasion we have seen lifeguards attempt to screed water out of the numerous puddles into the drains. The impression is that the deck is not scrubbed and sanitized. The dark tile and grout appearance in the standing water makes you wonder what fungus lurks under your bare feet. The mats are narrow and lacking in coverage.INADEQUATE FILTERING - DISEASE CONTROLWe saw a child vomit exiting the children's pool. Within 12 hours of swimming in that pool ours also vomited. It makes you wonder if the pool water/environment is continuously filtered for pathogens. "UV Lighting" and "UV Pool Sanitizing" can inhibit the spread of disease in public places. This facility appears to be lacking contemporary solutions for disease control.LIGHTINGThe pool lighting is not maintained. Some lights are out or partially operational. The workout/treadmill area has dismal lighting. CRAMPED WORKOUTHalf the workout equipment is in a cramped recess adjacent to the bright entrance hallway. There is no privacy from everyone that passes by and stares. The equipment is nice and up-to-date, but you feel like you are working out in someone else's space, or against a wall.MISSING MAP FEATUREThe park map shows a miniature golf course, which would be a great attraction, but it doesn't exist.NICE SETTINGDespite the indoor shortcomings the outdoor facilities are abundant and in a pleasant setting. There is a large area for little children to play.We gave two stars because the facility is tolerable but we have seen better. -1 star for dirty pool environment.-1 star for gym location/space-1 star for poor lighting and a missing feature still shown on the map.
