This is rural Kentucky, south of Red River Gorge, and you'd struggle to find another place to get anything to eat, let alone anything this nice. This cafe lies at the center of a humble roadside inn, and while it didn't appear to me that many people were vacationing during the off-season, there were plenty of people heading in and out of the cafe. The pastry spread had abundant options, and plenty of this place's own chocolate bars were available for sale. I got a Mayan hot chocolate, which I was told was spicy. Hot chocolate is a beverage that not infrequently lets me down, but this one was full-flavored, and both the spice and the sweetness came through. My chocolate chip brownie with cream cheese icing was wildly indulgent. I didn't have a need for any more than that, but if I did, they certainly could have provided something worthwhile.Given the remote location and irregular hours, I would check their website and social media before coming.

I didn't stay at the inn, but I did eat at the cafe twice while in town. Delicious coffee, pastries, and chocolates! I recommend the iced coffee with oat milk, apple fritters, and the chocolate donuts with fruit filling. All made in-house. You really can't go wrong! There is also plenty of seating on the outdoor back patio or in front. You can enjoy your morning coffee and pastry while eating on the back patio and listening to the lovely music they have playing. They also have great merch. A very thoughtful small and local business! Their origin story is even better. Can't wait to come back the next time I'm in town!

The couple who own and run this place were very patient with me as I ooohed and aaaahed over all of their pastries and chocolates. The husband not only roasts and grinds his own coffee beans but also grinds the cacao beans for his chocolates. Here is what we got:RRR- espresso macchiato was well made, nice and strong. Danish was very good. Her pastry is about as good as it gets. Bear claw was dry and seemed to be a day old. The coffee helped.Me- hot mocha with soy. Again, well made, just enough chocolate. The coffee to chocolate ratio was just right . I also got the Danish which was just out of this world!! A beautiful and not over sweetened cream filling topping a light flakey crust topped with fresh raspberries and blackberries, all dusted with a little powdered sugar. Under the cream filling there was a dense blackberry (?) jam. ummmmmm! My second choice was a chocolate chocolate chip muffin, took me 2 days to eat it. Very moist with beautiful dark chocolate chips. We highly recommend this place!

A touch of elegance coupled with the highest quality cuisine that is not you normal fare in Lee County. Instead of burgers and fries, a chicken wrap with penne dressed with herbs. Of course there is also the chocolate. Made on sight and each bite a gift to the taste buds. The pastry and coffee make this a must stop place for a morning pick me up.

My husband has never wanted to drink coffee until he sampled mine. Dustin makes a mocha with cayenne pepper that is to die for. He roasts the beans, grinds the beans and uses his Chocolat he makes in the coffee. Mai makes the pastries. The danish is my fave. All the rest are a close second. We have to go out of our way to get there but it is so worth it. We are hopelessly hooked!

Wow what a great surprise! Cruising into Beattyville hoping find something decent and we found a gem. Quiche box had donut holes, great potato salad and fine quiche. Other pastries were equally excellent. If in area this is a must stop. As good as anything we've had in Lex or Lou!

Stayed at the Chocolat Cafe while in town for a funeral. This motel renovated into "Theme" rooms is charming. The real delight here is the story that brought this husband and wife back to the sleepy town of Beattyville. He wanted to travel the world, like all young men determined to depart their sleepy towns for bigger adventures: his wife, a native of Japan fell in love with the little town and so they returned and stayed. There is hiking near by, and for the area rates are advantageous, the charm and effort they provide to their guests is admirable.Custom brewed coffee and homemade pastries, best yet chocolates!!Enjoy the vision this couple brings to Lee County and help a little town bring in a global touch and a dream of something more.

This is the premier place to stay in Beattyville, KY. It is a short drive to many amazing sites that the Red River Gorge has to offer. Also if you are staying someplace else and want the best coffee around, the owners have studied coffee extensively and work to provide the highest quality product. They also offer some great treats in the cafe.
