One night after having some delish pizza, we had a thought to head upstairs to Cabel and see what the buzz is all about and this place is freaking sweet! You have to walk up a flight of steps to get in there and it has a very speakeasy-of-the-21st-century-vibe if you know what I'm saying. There are couches and chairs everywhere for folks to lounge in, catch up with friends and chill out with a great drink. The night we went they had a live band playing off on the other side of the bar that provided a nice bit of ambience. We didn't watch them as we were chilling near the couches, but they were good and I can totally see coming here to see a band play any day of the week. After taking a stroll around the area to check everything out, we went to the bar and ordered us a drink. The bartender was super funny and cool. Me and Scott both ordered a Manhattan because we're bourbon drinkers and love a good one. It wasn't the speediest drink that I've ever had come out to me, however when it came out and I took a drink. Oh lord! It was almost as good as the one I got at Market Place, almost! It was amazing. Me and Scott both loved it and I really really really want another one, right now! Through and through this place is the bomb. It's a totally different scene than downstairs where Butchertown Pizza Hall is and a different vibe than the football and beer. Grab some grub downstairs and then head upstairs for a little nightcap before heading home. You won't regret it a 100% promise you!

We were leaving Butchertown Pizza Hall, when someone told us we should go upstairs. There were cocktails, she said, and a jazz band. So, we got in a red-lit elevator and rode to the second floor. We stepped out into a dark, smoky speakeasy worlds apart from the rowdy, football crowd in the pizza hall downstairs. This only opened recently, and seems to already be catching on. There were quite a few people crowded around the bar, at tables or in the comfy seats around the space. There's not much light, so we had to use our phones to see the cocktail menu. We had the Gardener ($10), a boozy mix of liquor, cherries, orange bitters and rosemary.

I went to the Cabel Street Bar to attend a comedy show, believe it or not. It's a very cool spot. One star deduction for some chairs that were uncomfortable in a truly noteworthy way. But I'd happily return here for another show. By the way, the show didn't start until 11 pm. Not sure if this is the fault of the venue or the promoter, but come on! Some of us aren't teenagers anymore.

Wonderful bar with relaxed hip vibe, delicious food and great cocktails!!! Live music on the weekends - Jazz, Swing, etc. Great place to come with a group or just to hang out. Bar is on the second floor above the Butchertown Pizza Hall - best pizza in Louisville.

First time at this venue will probably be my last...unless another fabulous music group is featured. In which case, I might suffer it. Went last night to hear a bluegrass duo. Michael Cleveland is just one phenomenally good fiddler player. Anyway, the venue seemed to be woefully unprepared for the crowd this duo drew. I wasn't surprised so not sure why they were. It was miserably hot and crowded in the place. We found a seat on a couch as all the tables were taken. A good while later, a waiter appeared with a menu and full water glasses. He took a cocktail order and brought that. After we perused the menu, we tried to flag him down again. He stopped briefly, told us people at couches had to order food and drinks through the bar, and left. I went to the bar. After a wait of nearly ten minutes it , a surly bartender took my order, snapping when I mentioned we were at "couch 1", "We are doing the best we can.". Not, "I'm sorry for your wait." or something, anything, else appropriate. We ordered an appetizer and a pizza. Forty minutes later, our pizza arrived, delivered by the waiter said he wasn't supposed to be waiting on us. He returned a few minutes later with two cloth napkins, plates, and forks. Thirty minutes or so after that, our appetizer arrived. We sent that back since by then we were full up on pizza and didn't want spinach/artichoke dip for dessert. The pizza was good but, honestly, I've had better here in town. One of the girls (who I think was a food runner) was doing a great job refilling water glasses, bless her heart. She was the only calm smiling face we saw. The waiter (who was not waiting on us, remember?) then stopped and asked if we wanted a go-box. I went to the bar to pay my bill and told the bartender again that we are at couch #1. He said, "Oh, that's R____'s table." so, apparently there is service at the couches after all. All in all, a huge disappointment based on other reviews I've read. We were really looking forward to trying out this place. The music was the only saving grace. Well, that and watching all the food runners try to find the right tables with their hands full. They were pretty funny.
