Kathy V. "I will say upfront that we did not have super high expectations for Best Vineyards. We wanted to go to one more winery in the area before heading home to KY, and after a quick look on Yelp, the two closest to our current location had the same ratings, and Best was closer. Also....we were told they also produce spirits for sampling as well. So to Best we went! From Turtle Run, there are homemade signs along the way to direct you to their location. They are on the same wine trail, so the people at Turtle Run were happy to give us easily follow-able directions to their place. The homemade signs are a good indication of what to expect. This place isn't going to blow you away with its appearance. But they make up for it with their passion. We got there and, I always think it is a good sign when there is a winery pet to greet you when you get there. Two dawgs! Petting pups abounds. Anyway....Berretta was our tasting guide. The wine tasting is free. They primarily have sweeter wines, which I am a-ok with. Since this was our third winery of the day, I didn't go too overboard on the tastings. Also, because I wanted to sample the liquors! Berretta was very friendly and was knowledgeable about the wines. She also offered some mixers for me for a few of the hard alcohols that I knew I was going to need. Cranberry juice and cola to go with a few of them. The liquor tastings cost $5 and you get to sample every one of them. The limoncello is tasty, and is surprisingly good with cranberry juice. The moonshines are nice too.You can get cocktails made with their spirits while there as well. The fella and I each got one to drink while Wilbert showed us around the facility. Rachel was there working too, and it was a really interesting visit! They are working on some gins and other flavorings, and we got to smell some of the tests. It was really cool, and a neat surprise that we weren't expecting.I think the people we interacted with bumped this place up a whole star. They really made our visit wonderful. We left with a bottle of wine that the fella wanted, but for me it was all just fine. Nothing I needed. But it was such a good overall experience, I would certainly recommend a visit here if you were in the area."

Heather M. "I've heard of this place and it has been on my radar for a long time so, I finally got to come out here. It's actually located closer to Lanesville. I am thankful for GPS I will say or I may have never found this place. I went down a long very narrow gravel road and it is actually kinda hidden with the houses on that road. It blended in so well I almost went to the house across the way lol. I saw the sign that directed me to the winery. They have a spacious patio and the inside is rather small and do sell wine by the bottle.I asked if they were doing tastings or not due to Covid and was told they were. 8 tastings for $5 not a bad deal right? I was the only one there so I did get some one on one attention. I was even educated on how and what fruits they use if they are fermented or not. I also got some crackers when I started off with the dry reds. I been told to start with reds vs. sweet. Even learned the more sweet the wine is the lesser the alcohol in the wine. I liked the Chardonel and Blue my mind, I wanna say there were more sweets I liked but, I only photographed one side of the menu apparently. My host was friendly and knowledgeable, was told there is live music on Saturday or Sundays, maybe better to check their Facebook for more details. She thanked me for coming out and to come back. I definitely will return here."

No sugar added to the wines (no hang over, and diabetics can have!) I was pleasantly surprised how tasty the whites were! The drys were not too sweet. The wine maker blends with juice, no grapes. The inside is beautiful and clean. The outdoor patio is relaxing with nice views of the large vineyard. The menu is pretty small but they offer pizza, soups, chicken salad and a few other meals. We had the veggie pizza one day and the margarita pizza the other day. Veggie pizza was delicious but the other pizza was pretty bland. The pizzas are large enough for three maybe four people. They offer red wine flights, white wine flights, sweet wine flights and fruit wine flights for only $7.00! There's a venue to rent for events. And they have various events throughout each month such as yoga, live music, etc. They sell bottles of their wine, souvenirs and booze flavored truffles, cupcakes and other candies. I tried the Sangria Boozy cupcake that I thought was too dry but my daughter tried the Peach Boozy cupcake and she loved it. A neat place to hang out and catch up with friends or a date night....."

Kathy V. "The fella and I like drinking wine and trying out new places. While we were in the area visiting his family, he said "....isn't there a winery around here?"To which I responded "Well, there HAS to be! And we're going!"A quick google search revealed Chateau Du Vieux Corbeau. It is just up the street from the Pioneer Playhouse and right next to a charming looking Inn.We got there around 5pm, and they are open until 6pm most days. There was only one woman working, and she was finishing up with a group already there, ringing up their purchases and chit chatting.A tasting, including all of the available wines costs only $2, and bottles are very reasonably priced. All of their wine is aged in stainless steel, as the winemaker has an oak allergy. It's an interesting thing to do. I personally love oakiness in my dry wines, so I kind of missed the flavor, but if you don't like it they have wines for you! And many of the wines don't have any added sugar. They weren't my most favorite wines, but I found several that I enjoyed! The woman running the tasting was wonderful! Friendly and very knowledgeable about the wine as well as the surrounding area, giving tips on things to do in Danville. If you are only intending on doing a tasting, bring cash since it is only $2 per person. But credit cards are accepted and a bottle is around $10. We left with 3 bottles between us!Should you want to have some wine while in Danville, I would certainly recommend paying Chateau du Vieux Corbeau!"

Molly B. "OK, to be fair...I have not actually visited the winery. Want to be honest up front. This is simply a review of the wine. I was at North Market yesterday and decided to pick up a bottle of wine. I've been wanting to try an Ohio wine for years but have always hesitated. How can Ohio have good grapes? Plus, I've heard from many sources that Ohio wines are gross. Anyway, one particular bottle stood out to meand it was the Kinkead Ridge Syrah (2008 vintage). At $20, it was a little more than I usually spend on a bottle (yes, I'm cheap), but I thought, "What the hell?" Let me just say.....*swoon.* This wine was amazing! Ballsy, spicy, full of body - just the way we like it. I can't believe the vines in the winery are only 10 years old! Probably one of the best Syrahs I've had in a long time. Plus, at 15.2% alcohol content, it was worth the $20. When I was finished with the bottle, I was thoroughly schnockered. I WILL come to this winery when it opens back up over Memorial Day weekend! For those of you in Columbus who want to try this wine, they sell in grocery stores, restaurants and wine shops all over town. Their website has a list of retailers."

Milla Nova was our second tasting of the day, and my favorite of the three.A tasting costs $5 for several samples. They have a really varied and rather large selection of choices. I prefer sweeter wines, and they have plenty to choose from! The most interesting option that I sampled was the Mint Julia. Very unique and refreshing. I don't think I could justify a whole bottle of it, but a sample was great! The ladies working were super friendly. The three people working were easily able to handle our group of 12, with our rapid fire questions and requests and tasting desires. The tasting room is large but inviting. They have a back room that was being set up for a wedding later in the evening. And they have a great patio and outdoor area. A bit chilly out, but their new patio space was hard to pass up!When we pulled into the parking lot, the smell of slow-smoked meats wafted through the air, and their green egg was cranking away. We then knew we had to get something from that smoker!!!Service was leisurely, but we were in no hurry. We sipped on our teas and waited for the two "specials" to arrive. The caprese grilled cheese sandwich was charred and crisp on the outside, bright and tangy inside served with a wonderful salad full of mixed veggies, fruits, nuts and a slightly sweet dressing that tied it all together perfectly. The smoked pork tacos were the bomb...smoky, charred chunks of pork butt served in flour tortillas topped with tomatoes, scallions, shredded cabbage and a wonderful crema sauce. The views are a million bucks and the pace slowed at this spot...maybe next time we'll actually stop and drink some of their wine! Jon C. "I really wish that Blue Heron Vineyards was closer, because I could see myself sitting on the deck, drinking a bottle of wine and watching the barges float down the Ohio River. Make it a rainy day and I think I would be in heaven. On a recent trip with 11 of my closest friends, we made the journey to Blue Heron. I had never heard of it, and the only real reason we stopped was because I saw it on the map when plotting our trip of southern Indiana wineries, and I knew we would be close to it. Out of 10 wineries, this ended up being our favorite by far.First, the directions on their website say the road to the winery "becomes rustic". I believe what they meant to say was "our road is gravel. it's steep, and if you have a small car, you'd better pray you make it up". Thankfully my SUV climbed to the top like a champ, but it's steep and rough. We parked in front of a shed-like building and were immediately met by the winemakers. They introduced themselves and asked our names while shaking our hands, and were invited into their wonderful winery. I really can't say I've meet anyone nicer than this lovely couple, both retired educators along any wine trail. After gasping at the beautiful view of the Ohio River through the woods, we were led inside the tiny two room winery. Both rooms had items for sale that seemed out of place for a winery: save, 60's cookbooks, walking sticks, etc., but that's just how this place is. In the middle of one of the rooms is a dining room table that we did our tasting at. Seriously! A dining room table in a winery.. it was awesome! Oh yeah, no wine glasses here either. Just small juice glasses with the most wonderful celtic etchings on the side. Wines; french varietals, slightly dryer than what you normally find in Indiana, which made the place even better. A few of my friends aren't dry wine drinkers, and I will admit their review of the place is probably different than mine, but I'm a dry wine drinker and they aren't writing this review, so I say it's great!I can't wait to get back to Blue Heron, if nothing else, just to see the view and chat with the owners again.. but I bet there will be wine purchased too!Oh, very important: they DO NOT take credit cards!"

Looking Out For The City .. "I came here today because there was an event that was taking place. The hospitality was great. The surroundings were really beautiful. Some suggestions I would make: The gravel road would do better paved and tarred. There are so many potholes to get up to the winery that I would suggest it for safety purposes. Additionally, I would suggest signage on parking. Is it okay to park on gravel near the entrance or on the grass? I followed the host of the event and parked on the grass. Usually, it is the best etiquette to park on gravel. It would be best to remove this ambiguity. The beverages featured were wine slushies. I did not have any because I was too worried about driving back to my house after getting there. It would have been nice to take one to-go; however, the cups were not made for to-go ordering (basically a cup with a straw lid that is covered with tape). This would be another suggestion for future events. Keep packaging in case people want to take one of these drinks to-go. Places like Taco Tico and others jumped on the bandwagon during and after the pandemic. This could be a selling point if this winery wants to increase sales."

Really great customer service and she seems to truly enjoy what she does for a living. They have a good variety of wines that suit any palette with a heavier emphasis on sweet and semi-sweet wines. They do have some dry wines if that is your preference. Parking is easy and plentiful. They do not host weddings at all. Tastings happen around the central bar. I like the rustic tractor-seat-y stools. The gentleman working, leading the tasting, was wonderful. Friendly, knowledgeable and ready with recommendations based on your preferred tastes. The fella prefers dry and I tend to prefer sweeter wines. Grimes Mill has both options covered.Tastings are $6 and include three wines of your choosing and you get to keep the glass. I am drowning in winery tasting glasses these days, but I'm not really complaining :-PI opted for the Bianca, Moscato and Fantasia. The moscato drinks more like an ice wine. Very VERY sweet. The historical placket states that it was once the largest producer of wines in the US during the 1870's. Be sure and take a tour of the old winery to learn it's fascinating history. The wine cave and the main building are amazing examples of 1800's ingenuity. However, all the present day winemaking is done off sight for this winery. There is also a distillery on the premise. We were spending the day in Cincinnati and, being a wine lover, I wanted to see if it was possible to stop at a winery either on the way there or the way home. Things didn't open early enough for a visit on the way there, so we opted for one later in the day. After some researching wineries along the way, we settled on Brianza because on Saturdays they are open until 8pm! We had plenty of time to enjoy it with no need to rush.We arrived around 5pm. The drive from the highway is absolutely lovely. There was someone helping direct cars to parking. It turns out, I am pretty sure that is because they had a band playing and a BBQ place serving dinner. It was really busy and seemed like the Place To Be! When we walked in, interested in just doing a tasting, we saw people getting table service for tastings. So we saw a couple stools open and asked some folks if they would mind if we sat next to them. They happily invited us to take a seat, and I went up to get a wine list and make sure they knew we were ready for a tasting to start. For $7 you get to taste 5 wines. A pretty alright price. I really quite enjoyed all the wines I tried, including starting with some drier options, which is a step in a newer direction for me. They have some lovely sweeter options for those of use with sweet wine teeth!Originally, we were only going to do a tasting and be on our way. But we were having such a good time, and the band was surprisingly great, so we decided to get a glass of wine each and hang out for a little while longer and enjoy the music. The back room was packed with folks there to enjoy the food and the band. A kind couple even offered to let us sit with them at their table. I was genuinely touched by the kind offer, though we declined because we weren't going to be there for too long. Just long enough to enjoy our one glass of wine. And it gave us the opportunity to boogie a little bit to the music and pet the winery dog who was hanging out near the back of the room. The visit left an incredibly good impression on me. I already want to return on a not-as-hot day to get to walk around the gardens....and try some more wine! It is certainly worth your time to come here!"
