Shelby Z. "The Kentucky Shakespeare Festival is an awesome, FREE event that happens in Central Park every summer. They have a new season each year that'll include about 4 different Shakespeare classics. As big theatre nerds, this is such a blast for us. It's so much fun to bring some chairs/blankets, and just camp out while enjoying the show. These performances are also very well put together, and have professional actors that take the stage. If you're looking for food/drinks, they've got you covered also. There are usually a couple food trucks that'll be serving stuff to munch on during the show. This is always on my "To-Do List" every summer!"

Megan Kristen M. "Just saw the Nutcracker while visiting Lexington. Kids were great, but I was under the impression that this was a professional dance company, which it clearly is not. I'm not one to fat shame, but the worst offender was the very corpulent dancer in the first act. I assumed him to be someone's dad until I saw him listed as the "artistic director"...wow!! I've since learned that the Lexington Ballet Theater is the way to go and wanted to pass on this tip."

Tamara K. "Over the years we have come to see that the disorganization of events, lack of effective communication, and failure to keep facilities clean had become the norm. We were none too impressed until a dance instructor joined the staff and changed everything. Her positive attitude, love for her students, ability to create superb choreography, and overall talent made her someone we wanted our daughter to be around. Even after several years of proven loyalty to the studio, they "fired" her right before the spring recital even though she had already put in her resignation. Their false claims that she had hurt students self esteem were more than unbelievable, they were absurd. Lies were said about her lack of dedication to the studio. During this past recital she choreographed 12 out of 19 dances. Her students absolutely LOVED her and missed her during the recital because she was not allowed to come. They broadcast their decision both on social media and group emails sent to parents which was so unprofessional. On top of that, this very thing happened several years ago but to different instructors who left the studio to open another one in Frankfort. To say the least, I do not recommend Frankfort School of Ballet. My pre-professional ballerina will be attending another, more professional, studio from now on."

Kathy V. "We stopped in for a pre-show drink before the Craig Ferguson show. It was my first time here not for a special, private event. They have a surprisingly decent list of wine and beer. And nice list of cocktails to chose from, all of which are $10. And there are some tasty sounding food options as well! They have you covered, pre-show. If you get there early enough, that is.You order at the bar. If you are getting food, you get a number to bring back to your table and someone will deliver your food to you. If you are getting a drink, you wait at the register to get your drink. If you are ordering a cocktail, they aren't suuuper complicated, but they do take more time to make. So be patient. We had already gotten dinner somewhere else, and were just killing time before the show started. So drinks were on our menu. I got the cherry almond sour. Absolutely delicious, dangerously drinkable, and hard for me to stop after one. But I did (and switched to a disappointing rose wine which was expected because I just got the cheapest thing to follow up with). The Fella shocked me and got a mai tai! He mentioned that it was generously strong and also very tasty!Scene gets understandably and obviously busy prior to performances. If you are dead set on dining here pre-show, get here early to secure a table (as they are first come, first serve) and to give time for your food order to arrive as well as time for a potential second round. The lines can get long and take some time. And this was noted on a chilly Tuesday night...not the most attended of evenings for Kentucky Center performances. Be patient and give yourself enough time to properly enjoy your visit."

The theatre seating was very spacious and comfortable. They do have a below ground parking garage that you print a ticket than pay depending how long you stay. $10 for all dat parking. The show was entertaining and my daughter absolutely loved it. She is already asking when we can come back to see another show."

As a birthday gift (best one ever) I was gifted Dolly Parton tickets to the show last night. The tickets were pricey, but keep in mind that it was more of a personal concert than a huge arena experience. With the smallness also comes the awesome acoustics. Not to mention that even the seats in the upper area are pretty good. Our tickets were at will call and the attendants were super nice and efficient. As we waited in line, an attendant asked several of our names and came back out and handed us our tickets. Way to work the line! There were also several people guiding us to whichever side of the center that our seats were closest to. The entire seating process went smoother than any big arena experience that I've ever had. Impressive!"

There are a lot of great local theatre companies in Louisville and the Bunbury is one of them. This theatre has an amazing venue located inside the Henry Clay. The theater sits probably around 200 and hosts many original productions. When you walk in you get a home grown feel that has been awarded by Mayor's of Louisville and national fairs. Images and awards line the walls of just why this theater company is a must view. All the volunteers and staff are part actor/set designer/director/producer/writer part jack of everything. This talented group definitely supports local talent and home grown art. I bought my season tickets on sale during a Groupon Event and am looking forward to getting to know the resident artists and enjoying the original written pieces. The venue and seating are fantastic though. The seats comfortable, and the organization of the rows of seats makes every experience satisfactory. It hosts an array of shows out of the ordinary. It's definitely something to discover if you're new to Lexington, or just looking for something new to experience. Check out the website for the calendar filled lineup of events. They're currently getting some decent names to come perform there in their opening season (Wu-Tang, Judah & the Lion, etc.). Not bad, honestly. The location is pretty cool. East Broadway has historically been neglected. Smoketown-Jackson and Paristown Pointe have had almost no investment in decades. So Paristown Hall is very welcome. And they've done an incredible job with this space. They've even repaved the roads around here and planted some trees. Just a complete overhaul. Well done to Brown-Forman.It's a big, open space. A couple tables with some stools. I think they can get rid of the tables. Just kind of in the way.Bartenders need to be more mindful about how much they serve. The concert we went to, there was a guy that had WAAAYYYYY too much to drink. It wasn't a good situation at all.No matter where you are in the hall, you will be able to see. No issues here. They've don't a great job with this space.Control the temperature in the building and watch how much you serve your patrons, and you might find yourselves getting 5*."

Rachel R. "ScreamPark is one of those haunts thats worth the drive to.It's located in an old warehouse that ups its creep factor. There are currently 3 different attractions as well as roaming characters inside and out. The lines and everything are located indoors, which makes it nice on chilly nights. There are dance lights and lasers as well as music videos and the likes playing so theres plenty of entertainment while you wait. You can also enjoy a snack bar which is nice. The first attraction you should hit is The Abyss. Its just that, a dark scary nothingness. Literally. Its a near pitch black maze. I'm not sure how the characters can even see you but they pop out of nowhere! Just kinda creepy really. Next is Castle of Fear. Now this one is just awesome! The theming is just... wow! Theres mist and medevial looking walls and statues and even suits of armor! The really cool thing is that they have some sort of sense things in there to make it even smell authentic! It smells dank and musty throughout and when you walk into a graveyard/courtyard its smells like pine needles and dirt, but that could be the real dirt on the ground. I found out later that the dirt actually came from a graveyard which made it even creepier and got a plus for authenticity!Last but not even near least is Insanity: Chaos Attraction. This is not your typical strobe and chainlink maze. Its themed to a hospital of sorts, on the verge of a mental institute. Some actors literally hang and run around in the rafters! Demented degree holding doctors want to run experiments on you with theassive amounts of chemicals scattered throughout. Theres all sorts of little surprises littered throughout as you get turned around in multiple dead ends. A great place to hang out on an October night with great actors. They seem to have a lot of fun and lnow what they're doing. Like I said earlier, totally worth the drive to Lexington."

CenterStage

Emily H. "When you walk into CenterStage, you might at first feel like you've taken a trip back in time -- to high school. The theater looks very similar to my high school's auditorium, with large polyester curtains covering the windows and the audience sitting on risers. But don't let that stop you! The talent I've seen come out of this theater -- which has created a name for itself over its past 100 SEASONS (wow!) for performing Broadway musicals -- rivals performances I've seen in New York and Chicago. The casts are truly phenomenal and fully committed to their characters. "Community theater" does not adequately fit this awesome establishment. They're so good that you'll easily forget you're in an auditorium and become sucked into the production. And they really make the most of the stage with inventive sets.I saw my first CenterStage production earlier this year with "Spring Awakening," a very raw and edgy play that explored such topics as rape, puberty, incest, abortion and teen suicide. And as the artistic director said before the play started, CenterStage does not shy away from avant-garde or controversial productions. They don't change a play to make it more PC but use that as fodder to explore more profound and adult subjects.I like that! And full disclosure: I was comped a ticket to see "Spring Awakening," so I wanted to make a return visit -- with me paying my own way -- before writing a review. Happily, I was able to do that this last week, when I saw "Sweeney Todd."This is another one that has a bit of an edge, though I admit their production was not gruesome just for gruesome's sake. They handled -- ya know -- Sweeney Todd cutting men's throats with his straight razor thoughtfully. There wasn't spurting blood, but rather, the shock value came from the actors' performances -- perhaps as it should be. I also like that CenterStage partners with non-profits on most of its productions. At "Spring Awakening," the theater raised funds for the Center for Women and Families. During "Sweeney Todd," the theater was raising funds for itself -- and more specifically, replacements for those ghastly curtains! Bravo! But they could put up paisley bed sheets over the windows if they wanted to -- I would still gladly come to their shows."

Dana L. "I have always enjoyed myself at Actors Theatre over the years. If you like the theatre, then you will likely find this local one to be quite satisfactory. Smaller than Kentucky Center for the Arts and larger than the Bunbury, I think Actors has the perfect size. It's very quaint without feeling too homey. This last visit was to see A Christmas Carol, and we sat on the first row of the balcony. It was perfect, especially for a short person that hates having to look over top of some tall person's head. The play was a bit different from years ago, yet we thoroughly enjoyed it. The actors did a nice job, although there was a bit of artistic license taken in the writing and production. The deviation didn't shatter me, as I'm not a Dickens purist, but if one was, I could see it possibly being a bit of a disappointment. The parking was paid for in advance with the tickets purchase, which is easy and convenient. The parking deck is tight and made for those concerned about climate change and not the gas-guzzling land barge SUV we were in. We found a spot on an end, hugged the edge, and tried to prevent some Prius from dinging the doors. It all worked out. The staff and ushers were all pretty nice. The venue was clean and the seats were comfortable enough, especially considering their age. I look forward to returning again."

This has ranged from well known musicals, like "Rent," to new-to-me shows, like the recent "Sugar in our Wounds," a small-cast play that takes place on a plantation during the Civil War. Their plays range from funny to heartbreaking. And their productions are in the Henry Clay theater, making them intimate experiences that are sure to stick with you.I've also enjoyed seeing some of the same cast members come back in different plays, so that you can appreciate these actors' range.Again, such a gem. But don't let that keep you from coming here, it gives off a very 'homey' vibe and there isn't a bad seat in the house! Their tickets range about $15, and you can reserve them online. I have gotten the pleasure of meeting one of their show's directors and a few people in the box office. I got to help out by making a few props for the show and everyone here is very friendly and down to earth. I saw their performance of Disaster the Musical, and it was very fun and entertaining. Previously if you couldn't find the location of your class and it was the weekend, or you were running late in traffic, it was difficult to notify someone of a problem. When I realized they finally got the pole/silks in the same building and I found information on the website confusing as to the location of the class I was taking on a Saturday, I called Friday night so there would be plenty of time to figure it all out so I wouldn't be late for class...someone from the facility texted me right away for clarification. "Shakespeare in the park is an annual series of shows revolving around Shakespeare and his works that takes place in the beautiful Central Park in the old Lousiville neighborhood of the city. Me and my family made our first ever Visit to this show last night. The director informed us that this is there 61st year in production! Also one of the stars of the show was actually in the original plays 61 years ago. How cool is that. In the middle of the park they have a large Amphitheater located around 3 massive and scenic trees. Quite. Lovely Scene with comfy seating. They have food trucks, public restrooms, merch both and even a wine and spirits place called wills tavern on site for these shows. So it's quite an experience. That's not including you can enjoy the entire park and it's amenities. The show we seen was Shakespeare in love. Now Unfortunately like 1 min after intermission a lightning storm cancelled the show. But from what me and my family seen it was a great show. The actors were very talented and did a great job. The story was entertaining And fun. I wasn't sure how my younger daughters would do and my 6 year old came to em today and was like "dad I'm bummed we didn't get to see the ending". Overall was a really fun and different experience for us. I have heard of this festival but never knew too much about it. I've honestly never read or seen anything Shakespeare. So it was never on my radar. But we had a great time and Incan absolutely seeing us come back next year for a show. This is thee last weekend of shows coming up and we have other plans. So we won't get to see our ending. But maybe we can see it or another full show on a better weathered day next season for year 62."
