"My favorite spot to get fried tilapia, cooked carnitas and chicaron. They have plenty of produce selection-specially their giant avocados. I often get their pre chopped vegetables for caldos. It comes with peeled and cute potatoes, carrots, cilantro, and corn. The butcher is a great spot to get your ox tails and sausages. They also sell tamales here-my favorite is the chicken and the cheese."
"While the location is somewhat obscure and hours are limited, it's worth a visit. The meat is very good and reasonably priced. Some products are seasonal, such as lamb in the spring. I have their product list, and can call ahead if I want something in particular to insure they have it. There's always been a butcher in the back to help,if need be. Note, parking anywhere at UK is a nightmare, but I was told I can park right at the door -- and it's an easy in-and-out."
"Quite a market and butcher for Middle Eastern products. Neatly organized shelves. I went specifically for Merguez sausage for a recipe I planned to make. The gentleman maning the meat counter was very friendly. I can definitely see myself returning to Sam's.69"
"I was tasked to pick up a chicken pre-order. However, there was a mixup and I had to wait an additional 20 minutes. The employees were apologetic and offered great service, though."
"I finally got to try Frank's after many years of it being on my list to try. I went in about 11 AM the day. It was very small on the inside. I was pretty surprised. I went to the counter. I ordered a medium chili it was four dollars and some change. I got my chili went over and waited in line for a little bit. The lady gave me a spoon and some crackers and I went outside and eat my chili. It was overall pretty good and I would go back."
"I'm a full on regular here. This is my Mexican market, and I doubt that will change. Just haven't seen any others quite as good... ( in Kentucky ) at least. There's some good deals on house made cheeses and cheaper cuts of meat. The bread and pastries are legit. It's lacking some love in produce which makes me have to stop elsewhere which can get annoying... Oh well. The people are friendly for the most part, just really quiet. Needs some more shelf tags too lol... It all comes with the territory though. I'll be back, often!"
"It's a tiny market, and weirdly seems to have good selections on a few types of items but overall is missing a lot. Notably, I could not find any fresh hummus, which seems to me like the #1 thing the term "Mediterranean market" would be advertising. They had plenty of canned hummus, as well as some canned fava beans that I like. There were plenty of dried beans, a lot of cheese, and only a few other things really. As such, I found a few things worth buying but was a bit disappointed overall. As the moment, the restaurant next door is closed temporarily but does have a restart date, so I'll likely come back and try it."
"Great place to shop for food items to try that I didn't grow up with. There is food but I haven't tried it. That said it always looks and smells good and the people that are eating look very happy."

Amazing! The best selection of produce, a huge section with dried chiles, a bakery, and chicharrones for days. Counter in the back for tortas made to order and a restaurant within.

If you're looking for a butcher shop that's easy to get in and out of, you're barking up the wrong tree.If you're looking for a butcher shop that both makes all of its own products in-house and always has a variety of products (of which varies from visit to visit), this is your place. They might have pork, lamb, or beef in any sort of cut (rump roast, sirloin steak, "neck slices", filets, bacon, varietal sausages and beef sticks, etc etc etc) and there's no telling what you're going to find here at any certain time. However, since students are making the product, it's usually quite inexpensive and always of good quality. Plus, all the meat is local, which always tastes better I don't care what anyone say.The bad news is that it's hard to find, the hours are extremely limited, and it's first-come-first-serve. Shop at your own risk, or just let me keep this place to myself.

Located in a small strip mall, this store has neatly packed in a huge variety of items in a small space. My goal was to procure fresh ground lamb mince to make homemade dolmathes, and fresh chicken thighs (bone-in and skin on) to make homemade Pho Ga. I went to the butcher counter and told the butcher I wanted 2 pounds of lamb mince, and he went to grab a whole lamb, cut off the sections needed for the mince, and ground it right before my eyes ! It can't get any fresher than that. The chicken thighs were already cut and packaged but still look amazingly fresh. They have a small section of produce, huge amounts of tea from which to choose, all kinds of sweets and snacks, fresh flat breads, and so many other items from which to choose that I cannot even begin to name them all. Everyone in store was helpful and pleasant. I just found my new butcher shop for fresh meats!

I finally got to the new location of Critchfield's. It's far more spacious than the previous store, clean, loaded with goods. I walked the aisles, taking note of the offerings. Bottom line, it's all about the meat. Produce is very limited. There's a lot of pre-prepared food, which I'm not a fan of, as I'm a DIY home cook. Goods are way overpriced. I can't imagine shopping there, unless I want something unusual, like --- goat! Now, for the fried chicken. I have no frame of reference as I never had it at Safeway. I bought a breast as a taste test and took it home for lunch. The sides were not at all appealing, so I passed. The chicken was tender, the coating crisp, but not so fantastic that I'd go out of my way for it. I'll stick with Grimes!59

Franks is so highly rated because it is real food that fills you up! Good people working fast to get you your lunch and you're in and out in 10 minutes. Always kind, always fast which is great service when you're in a hurry. They do like you to know what you want but they will never be rude to you. Daily specials are found on the menu on the RIGHT SIDE above the meat case. Regular sandwiches, soups, chili, etc are found on the wall BEHIND the meat case. This is a no frills meat shop. Ambiance is fast service with good food for working people. The sandwiches are TWO-HANDERS!

Ay Dios mío! I love this market. The staff are very friendly, and prices are reasonable. They have a great produce department, and an aisle full of Mexican cookware. They offer lots of Mexican spices, and their beverage aisle has lots of variety. This place is worth the drive!

This place is well hidden and they have a great selection for such a small place. You'll find Bulgarian cheeses, Mediterranean oils, a massive spice selection and a meat deli in back. You can find lamb back there and I'm sure it's Halal. The space is tiny, but it's packed with some cool offerings. They also have hookahs for sale and shisha available. I think I spotted a pressure cooker. I'll be back many times for sure!

"Great country store and restaurant. Good portion size and very friendly service. We had the spaghetti and meatballs today, it was delicious!!"
"McFall is going to be remembered as one of my greatest finds in this area. What a great, local, friendly, family-owned, old-school butcher shop!! These types of places are few and far between any more, so when I do run across one, and it seems as great as McFall, it's considered an epic find in my book!Since we missed it the first go around, we made a special trip this time to stop in and check things out. I will preface my 4-stars due to my obvious excitement for this place by saying, if you don't get here early on a Saturday, you won't find much, so the actual items that we would have purchased were no longer in stock - 1 star removed. However, now that we know, we will make sure to come first thing. On that note, we were able to pick up a couple of different flavors of marinated pork chops including, mango and chipolte as well as a beautiful looking pork butt to make carnitas with that was cheaper and better looking that any other cut of that kind I've ever purchased. I think the 6 lb. cut was around $9?? I may have to come back and edit this if I'm incorrect. Upon speaking with the counter attendant and walking through the store we learned about what they do offer including all types of brats, dogs, sausages (including chorizo), a decent selection of vegetables, spices, seasonings and much much more.I can't wait to get back and get some of the meats that I'm anxious to prepare. I'm sure I'll do a 5 star follow-up review.Know before you go: They have bacon wrapped pork medallions in their center case (pre-cooked) that are their signature item and go A.S.A.P. Get there early to grab a few!!"
"This place is cool! While it's on the small side, the food, drinks and service are definitely worth it. Very fresh meats prepared in yummy ways!!"
"So many of my friends and neighbors have been going here for their meats! I decided I had to try it. Having a dinner party and decided a tenderloin would be wonderful. In the past I have ordered from Kroger and never had any problems but wanted to try this instead. Called ahead and ordered a 5 pound trimmed tenderloin. Then they gave me a sheet with some instructions which included rubbing with "gunpowder". Hmmmm? Gunpowder? I ask and she excitedly tells me about this great rub which a little goes a long way. She offers me a taste, yum! She even exclaims it is great on popcorn! Yes I think this would be great on anything! I bought their gunpowder seasoning and a 5 pound tenderloin for $70. (Tenderloin was 70ish). Anyway, I know at Kroger it would have been closer to $100. Came home and rubbed the tenderloin with gunpowder and some fresh thyme. It was DELICIOUS! So tender and very good. The service was helpful and kind, loved the jovial vibe in there. It was so good I sent husband back today for another tenderloin for a Sunday night dinner party. I generally don't eat much red meat, but wow so good. And we had poached eggs with steak for breakfast with the left over meat. It's going to be a beefy Christmas season! The country ham here looks wonderful and I know folks rave about that. I also want to try the Amish chicken breasts!"
"We ate here on a Friday at 5:00, and it wasn't very crowded at the time. I had the B&B Margarita and asked the sever if she could make it more tart/less sweet. The drink she brought me may be the best on-the-rocks Marg I've had in a restaurant! The food was piping hot, delicious, and arrived quickly. We were on a time crunch to get to an event afterwards, and our server was amazing at helping us get in and out quicker than normal. I can't wait to go back!"
"This place sure knows what they're doing! In case the name didn't give it away, this is part of the Blue Dog family of restaurants (if they're into colors and rhyming, maybe their next place will be called "Green Frog" -- desserts this time! -- but I digress). With this group, you cannot go wrong! I had visited for dinner before and had a wonderful time. The outdoor seating is magnificent on a nice evening, the food is delectable and the service is so friendly. Most recently, I went for lunch with a friend and had an equally pleasant experience. The deli opens at 11, and you can grab a variety of artisanal meats, or a quick sandwich. We decided on sandwiches, and both chose the cold sandwich (there is also a hot one). But I wanted to switch things up and asked if they could toast the cold sandwich on the panini press. Presto, no problemo for the helpful and knowledgeable guys working behind the counter! A few minutes later our sandwiches were ready and they were so good! Fresh Blue Dog bread encased meat, cheese, dijonnaise and papadew peppers; the quick turn on the press gave it just the right melt and warmth. While we ate at one of the two tops inside, we watched the world go by on Frankfort Ave and saw patrons come in for cuts of meats for meals at home. This place is the veritable Frankfort Ave neighborhood butcher. To find your new favorite place, stop by Red Hog today. Like me, I'm sure you'll soon find another reason to visit again!"
"This is a super cute place that I have been wanting to try for a while now. The meat is butchered on the property so this is really a farm to table experience. I will warn you, this place is fairly meat centric so there are not many vegetarian options. I asked for a suggestion. The clerk said between the chorizo burger and the pork patty melt. I went for the chorizo burger with the fries and an extra side of the Mac n cheese. Let me tell you, the fries were perfectly cooked. The Mac n cheese was just the way I like it. The noodles were soft and the cheese sauce was perfect and creamy. Completely delicious. The burger was good. My only complaint is the burger to bun ratio is a bit off. I would suggest getting smaller buns or adding more meat and raising the price. Good news. They have plans to open at the Summit on Nick'ville road this fall so everyone will have an opportunity to eat here should you want to fight the traffic."
"Nice place with a great selection of sout American and Mexican food items. This location is a bit expensive, but it is a convenient location."
"Good local place that has great prices and selections of meats and other foods. I enjoy driving up here to get ribs, pork, steaks and other selections of meats. You can get whatever you want from this Butcher shop and I highly recommend it to everyone."
"I only come here for the Oxtails.. they're great from here. The owners are great.. not a bad atmosphere.. the reason I rated them 3 stars is because there have been several times I've came and no butcher was there. I understand that- just hire a second butcher."
"After a long day of unpacking from a move, my parents and I just needed something to grab and bring home for dinner. I suggested Butcher's Best because I've seen them outside smoking and cooking on the grills during the day and it always looked and smelled so good. They are located by Dairy Queen and next door to Party Center. It was late afternoon and the lunch grilling was over, but they have choices in the refrigerated cases and cold sandwiches at the deli counter. They also had some hot items left over from lunch and kept warm. They have deli side items like chicken salad, broccoli salad, coleslaw, potato salad, etc.. We opted for a couple of containers of pulled pork, deviled eggs, and potato salad. Both the deviled eggs and the potato salad were really good. The pulled pork was very good; great smoky flavor, not dry and had a nice bark. My parents have spent the last 35 years in Alabama, where good and real BBQ is abundant, and they were pleased. BB knows how to smoke meat.Their prices aren't cheap, so make note. The deli sides range from $8.99-9.99 lb., which is a tad pricey, but I do have to admit the quality was there. The shop is clean and the staff was friendly. In addition to the deli/lunch options, they are a full service butcher shop. I noticed they carry Bison. They also had single and whole pot pies. My grandparents owned a grocery store for almost forty years and my mother grew up spoiled on fresh and never frozen local meat hand cut by a real butcher, so I know being less than a mile away, it is soon to be a regular stop for her. The meat case looked very good and the prices again were on the higher side, but that is to be expected and understood when a better quality, selection and hand cutting is offered. The lunch specials run daily and they said even on Saturdays but with a more limited menu. It's a great place to pick up lunch or dinner to go. I'll report back on the meat from the shop."
"Little jimmys meat company is a lunch deli/meat market located in the small town portion of Mount Washington just of north bardstown road. My family and I came here the other day to check this place out and grab some lunch and price out some steaks for a Christmas party coming up. You walk in and they have a counter where you order. They prepare your order and give it to you and you go to a counter by the exit to pay. At the exit counter they also have some dessert options and candy. On this trip we grabbed lunch. I personally ordered a hand and cheese sandwich. It was good but kinda small and overpriced at $6. My wife did there lunch special of soup of the day and half a sandwich. Soup of the day was chili which she said was tasty. She got a club sandwich and said it was really good. Had great flavor. My oldest daughter got a corn beef sandwich and raved about it. The counter desserts got to us. I got me and my second oldest daughter this giant m&m's brownie which was cheaply priced (opposite of ham sandwich) and was really good. You know how the corner pieces or a brownie platter is the best? Well this whole thing tasted like a giant corner piece with m&m's. Legit one of the best brownies I've had before. My oldest got cake pops and she said they were really good. On this trip we didn't purchase any steaks. However, we may come back. There ribeyes pricing lined up with local retail stores so I think we would rather support local small businesses like this one this holiday season and give it a shot. So I think we will come back in a a few days and buy some of the ribeyes which run around $13 a pound. Overall very cool and nice addition to the small town of Mount Washington. Not to many lunch spots in This town. So the fact that it's a meat shop to I think it will do well. They do have a spacious inside and it would be nice to see them setup a few tables so people can eat there sandwiches and chili and soups while there."
