Great place for lunch or for dinner. Ambience is awesome and reminds you of how restaurants used to be like.

What a fun afternoon lunch with a special friend, enhanced by great food, wonderful atmosphere and exceptional service. We were seated with smiles and witty banter at a lovely table set with elegant mismatched china and linen tablecloths. The decor is beautiful with fresh white flower varieties on all tables, filling the bar, the piano and other surfaces. Our server JE was so accomodating, friendly and helpful. It was a catch up lunch for my friend and me so we were on no hurry and were never rushed to leave the table or the resturant even though we stayed well after the 2.00 pm closing time. I ordered the petite filet served on a panko crusted mashed potato patty and 2 asparagus spears. The steak was melt in your mouth tender and the bourbon glaze was light but flavorful. The potato patty was so good, crusty on the outside and smooth, creamy mashed potatoes on the inside. The asparagus spears were tasyy but could have been hotter. My friend ordered the tomato blue cheese bisque that she enjoyed. Our server bought fresh rolls with the soup that were homemade quality with butter. She also had an order of the rice ball appetizer that were filled with peas and feta cheese, breaded and deep fried, although we could not see any peas in the balls. I did not care for these. For dessert we shared the mocha dacquois, a layered mocha butter cream, rum cream and baked almond meringue sprinkled with powdered sugar and drizzled with a chocolate sauce. It was a fantastic choice, light, not too sweet but excellent flavor. Excellent lunch experience.

Celebrating a friend's special birthday at this fine establishment. Love this space and place. Just beautiful with old school service and style. Heck my flower stem is still blooming and it's been 2 weeks.Food was delicious, quantities were generous and the service was amazing. We will definitely return!

My son suggested this place as a surprise for my birthday dinner. The food was excellent. Great ambience with a piano player on a Thursday night. Service was lackluster, they had customers but the place was not full. We had to asked for refill on our waters, menu was left on the table, and our server kept reaching over. This kind of service is more for places like a mediocre chain restaurant not fine dining. I guess she also didn't get the memo to give the ladies a flower as a parting gift. The restaurant does have their own parking.

We arrived in Louisville after a long drive from Chicago. Our B&B (the Bourbon Inn - fabulous) is around the corner and to get our vacation started with a nice shot of bourbon we landed at BUCKS. What a jewel! Sarah greeted us and was welcoming and kind of our indecisiveness of "bar or table?" We ended up at the bar ...relaxing to soft piano tunes and a room summoning a romantic dinner - low lights and lots of white flowers. Richard poured our drinks and was not urgently trying to take an order - which allowed time for reflection. Then we met Chris who spent time sharing stories of the area and who has an invested interest in Bucks. She was delightful! We ordered the pork chops with grits which were the perfect blend of sweet and savory. We highly recommend Bucks for a casual drink or a special night.

A lot of times when I write a review, I try to think of what sets an establishment apart from all others. With Buck's, it's easy. If there's a more romantic restaurant in Louisville, I've not been. The ambience is simply unmatched. Located in the historic Mayflower building, Buck's decor is warm with chandeliers, bold colors, tall ceilings, white tablecloths, candlelight, a live pianist (or flutist) all located in one of the oldest neighborhoods in the city. I haven't had better food, but it's the charm that really knocks my socks off. When you leave, you will get a Star of Bethlehem flower to take home, not just on Valentine's Day, but on any other day too. It will bloom for four weeks. It's been said that when it stops blooming, it's time to come back. I wish we went monthly, but we save Buck's for our most special occasions, anniversaries, birthdays, romantic dates, or on a night like tonight, Valentine's Day. Tonight Buck's had a set menu. It was more crowded than normal, but the food, per the norm, was phenomenal. Tonight, I had a roasted beet and mini pear salad with aged gorgonzola, candied pecans, balsamic, and spiced peach vinaigrette. I ordered an old-fashioned to accompany my meal. For my entree, filet mignon seared and topped with aged gorgonzola, mashed potatoes and asparagus, and finished with a demi-glace. I had bread pudding for dessert. Every single bite was, for a lack of a better word, perfection. I see a lot of people asking about where to take a date. This is it. If you want to romance a woman (or man) and Buck's doesn't do it, nothing will. Buck's is one-of-a-kind. You won't see them on OpenTable. You'll have to pick up the phone and make a call. It will be worth it.

We booked this restaurant because it was steps away from our BnB and didn't want to venture out in the cold. We were so pleasantly surprised when we opened the door to this elegant gem! The food, the service, and the atmosphere were amazing and made our weekend so special! We had a reservation but something went wrong and our table wasn't ready. The hostess seated us at the bar and fixed us drinks on the house while we waited for our table to open up. Everything was delightful and delicious. We definitely will be back. Because of our experience, we have decided to make Louisville and Buck's a part of our annual holiday tradition!
