OMGosh, I'm ecstatic over this cheese!! I was visiting Lexington last weekend and was so excited to find a street fair happening near my hotel on Saturday morning. One of the booths was Boone Creek Creamery. Since I love cheese, I had to indulge and buy myself some! I love hot and spicy, so two of the flavors I got were "Sassy" (Sharp Cheddar with peppercorn and red pepper) and "Habanero" (Sharp White Cheddar with Habanero Peppers). Sassy was unexpectedly wonderful. Rather than hitting the tongue with heat, the heat was more in the back of the mouth and throat and lingered. No too much, but not too little either. Delicious. The Habanero on the other hand, exploded with heat from the initial bite. This one didn't hold back, it was full-on HOT! Way too often things that advertise Habanero try to be delicate... this cheese was not delicate in any way. It was HAWT!! And I'm a huge fan!!My third block is Blueberry White Cheddar. I haven't had any of it yet, but I have no doubt it will be epic! This was such a pleasant unexpected find. If you are in Lexington and like cheese... check them out. You won't be disappointed!!

Owner and Cheese Master, Ed Puterbaugh, has a background in bio chemistry, therefore he knows his way around a good bacteria! He has put his knowledge into making some of the best small batch cheeses in the state. He begins with a local, grass fed milk. Only natural ingredients are added to the cheeses, including the dye which is derived flowers. They are creative with their recipes and their names. For example, my favorite Sassy Redhead gets its namesake from a dusting of paprika on top and it gets its kick from peppercorns, mustard seeds and red pepper flakes. Abbey Road is an English cheddar smattered with sun dried tomatoes. The Kentucky Derby is a derby style cheddar with a hint of bourbon. Did you know his cheese is lactose freYou and the kids will enjoy a tour where you not only learn a few things but have lots of fun sampling and trying on cheese hats. They create cheese trays for parties and you can often find them at the Lexington Farmers Market where you can sample before you buy.

Needed a locally sourced gift basket in a short turnaround time and Kentucky Proud at Boone Creek Creamery was able to make it happen! There we some well known favorites (Ale-8 & Woodford Reserve Bourbon Balls) and some things I didn't recognize (The Cookie Yoda). Overall it was a very easy process; I gave them a price and picked up the basket, assembled and wrapped in plastic. Perused around the store when I picked it up and it looked like inventory was low but I assume that's because of limited in person activists due to COVID. Great option if you're looking to support local!

We had the pleasure of touring the store while Food Network Star Jason Smith was there. It was a huge deal for us. Not only did we meet Mr. Smith, but WKYT-TV's Amber Philpott was there doing interviews. We love her on Channel 27 news. The gentleman conducting the tour was very informative and delightful, we could tell he knows his stuff. And we loved being able to go into the Hobbit Cave. Meanwhile, we had various cheese samples and Kentucky Proud sauces. But my favorite was the Scandinavian Grilling Cheese they were passing around...scrumptious. I want the recipe.A great activity for the family. Do the tour at Boone Creek Creamery, fun, informative, and most of all FREE!

We walked in for a tour and Ed was a very gracious host. He showed us around and shared his passion for cheese making. Yes the cheese is expensive but it's what I would expect for a specialty product from a small establishment. The cheese tasted very good although a lot of the flavor was lost when we cooked with it.

They have such great cheeses. We found them at the farmer's market in Richmond and fell in love. We have shared with family and friends so now we have to back to Arkansas every trip. Love the red head cheese.

I had high hopes for the cheese from Boone Creek Creamery. I bought some Gruyère for a tomato and kale casserole recipe that I was preparing. Everything was locally grown and fresh, but the cheese ruined it. It didn't shred well and it didn't melt at all. It just became kind of crusty and tasted off. They may make some other types of cheese that are good, but Gruyère is not one of them. I'm thoroughly disappointed given the price and what I got for it.

I booked a tour with Boone Creek Creamery two weeks in advance, and when we, me and a couple of guests from out of state, pulled in to have our tour, they were closed. We had no email or phone call to tell us that they would be closed, which caused us to have time wasted going there and then having no other plans to compensate or plan for in the meantime. Very unprofessional and rude.
