This is a smaller KY State Resort Park compared to Cumberland and other lake resorts. But it is full of interesting places to see: a pioneer museum, a popular campground, a full service lodge w hotel rooms and restaurant, two 2bdr rental cottages plus a pool and a few easy trails. There's also a monument to the Battle of Blue Licks and a reproduction tradin' post. If you want a low-key autumn getaway, this is the place for you and your family.

We stayed two days. Arrived on motorcycle. We came here as the park was advertised as a "resort". Well resort apparently means different things to different people..lol. There is a restaurant as advertised, but it is a cafeteria with buffet. It is only open a couple hours at a time. No takeout is allowed. This is important to note, because there is NO other dining options available without traveling up to 40 mins away or more. COME PREPARED if you like to snack or need to eat at other times than the couple hours the cafeteria is open! There are NO vending machines, not even a pop machine. and the gift shop has just a few expensive snack options. There is a "bar" advertised. Lol. Well that means the waitress at the cafeteria will go in back and make you drink....lol. and again. ONLY during cafeteria hours. There is NO LAUNDRY FACILITIES!!! Don't get your clothes wet it dirty!! Or make sure you bring plenty for your stay or you will be sorely disappointed. The grounds and facilities are great condition. The staff is pleasant.

This place was very interesting. Can't believe this was a battlefield in the revolutionary war. They've done a great job putting this park together and including a ton of interesting things. I didn't check out the museum but it was a super nice building. They have lodging, a restaurant, and a gift shop. There was also a field that they were setting up a re-enactment. I was very impressed with this park.

A day trip brought me down here after some genealogy work said that my 7th Great Grandfather died here during the revolutionary war. If you're looking for a review on lodge conditions, camp sites or the resort--Scroll on by. Mine is purely based on the battlefield aspect.I was excited to visit the site, but was confused when I originally googled this place and it popped up in the results as a resort with daily rates of $59 a night.... Huh, what??? It was as if the battlefield is a complete afterthought to the area... a bit baffling to say the least compared to National Parks. This little spot is right off of rt 68 just a short drive from Maysville, KY. There's the memorial obelisk to those who died during the battle on your right and there are a few residential properties and ranger maintenance buildings, then you'll come to the Museum about the area and battlefield itself.Admission is $5 to look at some fossils including a bison skull, mastodon/mammoth tooth and tusk and plenty of Indian arrows heads and tools to go around. There's also a small section of the salt springs industry from this area. The section on the Battle of Blue Licks was not the most informative as I would have hoped. There were displays with outfit reproductions of the Kentucky Militia Man, and Canadian/British forces and some one off artifacts with the center focal point being someone's 8th grade project of topography of the area with post it notes, and arrows to indicate what happened in a 15 minute time frame. The time frame was probably the most informative of the reading material available in the museum. Daniel Boone's son died here & Daniel Boone actually fought here! When I asked the gentleman working the desk where the actual battlefield was, as that was our next stop - He mentioned that there's been recent speculation that it did not occur where they originally thought and a bunch of new theories have arisen. I continued my tour of the grounds --- a couple of metal commemorative signs here and there a memorials placed in the 1920's from the DAR organization when that was a fashionable thing to do back in the day. I'm glad I visited the site, but I don't feel I gained much knowledge, which was incredibly disappointing. This spot really has a lot of potential to educate others about one of the last battles of the revolutionary war, and some of their stars like Daniel Boone and his son, or the VA/Kentucky Militia and their tenacity, but those were lost to other focuses and priorities.

Here to stay overnight for a Women's Retreat. Been before just for the buffet with our Senior church members. The food is good home style buffet. No complaints there! Good variety and all that are with us enjoyed the selections. My room was a Queen bed suite. Plenty of room for me. Views are nice, there's a creek directly behind us...wish there was a trail to get there, maybe there is but I didn't inquire. Overall I was pleased, nothing fancy but felt like home. Very quite and serene! Staff was friendly, especially front desk attendant. Tip: Bring late night snacks, no stores near that are open late.

This park is not very big and is about the same size as possibly General Butler State Park, if this park isn't smaller than General Butler State Park in size. This park actually encases what was one of the final Revolutionary War battle sites in the US.Granted, what is actually where the main chunk battle field isn't very big, (because the lodge sits on top of part of it now), but it's worth seeing for one of those "little known pieces of American history," if you're interested in seeing historical and educational stuff like that with your family. The view from the actual battlefield is an interesting one as well. This is where Simon Kenton and Daniel Boone fought together against the British in what is now (more or less) what could be considered Northern Kentucky. There's a "Pioneer Museum" on the other side of the battlefield from the lodge that has people in period costume that show what kind of clothing, weapons and other related things that people used back in the 1700s in Kentucky. To get in to see the museum, it's $4 per adult and like $2-3 for children between the ages of like 4-12 and children under 4 are free, (cash only admission though). There's also different exhibits in the museum that show natural history and things about the Indians that lived in the area in the 1700s and 1800s.Speaking of the afore mentioned Lodge, the accommodations are very nice and overlook the mountains near Mount Olivet, Kentucky. The lodge is broken down in to four buildings. The "main building" is like the cafeteria; the front desk and main offices; A gift shop and meeting rooms. The other three buildings are two floors of guest rooms that have private balconies and secure/separate front entry doors for each room. The room rates aren't very expensive to stay in them, (I only paid approximately $89 Plus tax on the AAA rate for one night. My hubby and I stayed two nights, incidentally). We stayed in a room that had two double beds that were very clean and comfortable.I'd definitely be back to this site, if I wanted some peace and quiet, while I get away from the "big city." This state park is also located very near where Miss America 2000 (the former Miss Heather Renee French) grew up as well, if you're interested in seeing places like that as well.

Stopped in at the restaurant in the lodge on a weekday after swimming after the lunch crowd. Hostess was down to earth, and friendly. Ordered a cheeseburger and French fries to go, and a slice of coconut pie. Had a picnic at the park. Cheeseburger was delicious. Recommend if your passing through stop in the restaurant. Salad bar buffet is awesome as well. Great experience every time I go. Also, the gift shop is cute. Take a look. I love our Kentucky State Parks. This is a state park to have a relaxing time, hike, swim, and don't forget to bring a good book.

The natural beauty of this place is astounding. Breathtaking, even. Killer trails for hiking and tons and tons of history, given that this is a Revolutionary War battleground. Old structures, graveyards, and all sorts of interesting historical context...But camping here? While the bathrooms were well-maintained, we were super disappointed to find that this KY state park caters primarily to the RV camping set. "Primative" (or tent) campers had just one cramped area in which to set up, featuring maybe ten sites total that were pretty much out in the open and on top of one another. We were... the only folks without kids. You do the math. There's also really nothing around, so come fully - and I mean fully - prepared. You'll drive over a half hour before you find a grocery store, and this county? It's a dry one. Lots of 'em in KY are, so make sure you're equipped with your campfire bourbon beforehand. So three, right down the middle stars, because while the hiking and natural beauty and all of that was certainly fantastic, I definitely wouldn't stay here again due to the limited nature of their tent campsite offerings and the limited nature of anything else to do, buy, or see in the area.
