Blackacre is Kentucky's first state nature preserve located near Louisville, Kentucky. With hundreds of acres to explore, Blackacre offers hiking, tours of a historical homestead, a working farm, and educational opportunities for students of all ages. It's open seven days a week. Blackacre is truly a one-of-a-kind experience facilitated by warm, and welcoming employees and volunteers. Blackacre hosts field trips, has caretaker with child class opportunities, and has a Wednesday morning program during the summer that's geared towards toddlers up to six-years-old. Miss Prim dresses in historically accurate clothing and leads the kids in songs, reads stories, and facilitates a dance party with bubbles and ribbons on sticks. The event is held outside where you are free to spread a blanket, bring snacks, etc. Often, there is a special guest to educate kids on bugs, birds, or some theme related to whatever Miss Prim is reading that week. After story time, Blackacre allows guests to explore the property. My kids look forward to this event weekly all summer long. We like to take celery, carrots, and other snacks to feed the goats and horses. This is a free educational opportunity that is such a gift to the community. They host other paid events for animal feeding, tours, and holiday events. Most of our experience has been self-guided hikes to the pond or waterfall and attending story time with our small children, but there is so much to Blackacre that we are yet to discover. They also have the largest community garden in the city. I cannot sing enough praises for this unique space that is perfect for connecting with community and nature.

The perfect place in Louisville to take your children to feed some horses, goats and donkeys and occasionally pet some newborn lambs and kids. It's a peaceful oasis tugged away in the middle of the city, providing tranquility and peace from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The beautiful walking trails provide ample opportunity for strolls around the premises.

What a fantastic place to take your children to learn more about animal up close. We love to attend the Saturday summer feeding mornings at 9:30 each Saturday of summer. They let you know all about the animals as they let you help feed them. The animals you'll see are cows, horses, goats, donkeys, and sheep. You can bring your own apples, carrots to feed the animals before or after they receive their grain. The best part is they bring you into the yard to hold the buckets to feed the goats. This preserve also acts as a summer camp and wedding venue.

When you finally get past the dreary days of winter and have some pleasant weather then a visit to Blackacre Nature Preserve to get some fresh air and even see the animals is fun. They also have some nice trails. In fact one of them actually goes past a small waterfall that is quite picturesque. Of course it can be a bit wet so be prepared and wear suitable clothes and shoes.

What a lovely area for hiking and so much more. The trails are well kept but not well marked. There is signage on the trails but lots of offshoots from the main trails. In the main area, there is ample parking, an education center, farm animals (horses, goats, a mule) that you can feed, a barn that dates back to the late 1700's, picnic tables and restrooms. Fun place to strolling around and hike. Trails are easy to moderate difficulty. There is about a quarter of a mile gravel road you have to drive down to get to the preserve. Donations accepted, and they are always looking for volunteers.

Great place to listen to music and just relax !! Only gripe I had was how dusty everything was , there is a gravel driveway that is 3/4 mile long and I had just spent all day cleaning my truck, next time we go I'll drive the old beater, other than that it's

Blackacre is a wonderful free hidden gem in Louisville. My kids love to run around and explore. The old ice house stays cool even in the hot summer. Great short paths to get exercise. But my kids absolutely love to feed the farm animals there. Carrots, pumpkins, and the goats love love love honeysuckle!

Cool farm place with great scenery. Enjoy coming here on nice days and letting the kids run around to give them a small sample of the country life. Very popular place to have photos taken. Lots of photographers can be found on nice spring and summer days.

It's a Beautiful setting but be prepared to rent EVERYTHING you need for your wedding, down to portapotties. Also they do not give you much additional time, so be prepared to pay for extra time for setup and cleanup, and you need to haul out your own trash. If you're up for a completely do-it-yourself wedding, then this may work for you. But be prepared to lay out additional money for everything you may need.

I love that there is so much to see and do outdoors at Blackacre! From feeding the farm animals, hiking to growing a garden. It's my happy place.Their kids summer camps are the best! I always said that my daughter got a PHD in VBS and summer camps. So, I know good ones, not so go and great camps. Blackacre's camps are awesome! The kids get to explore, hike, do fun activities like archery, help with farm animal feeding and more! I love that it's in Jeffersontown near where I live. While I feel like I live in a busy town, I can feel like I'm in the country within minutes. They hundreds of acres to roam and explore. When I go there, I feel like life slows down to a crawl.Last September I attended the Sunday Sunset Music Series at Blackacre. We brought a blanket and listened to Bourbon Revival play bluegrass music until sunset. I look forward to this year's event.I give it a two thumbs up! I'd give it more if I had any!
