It's a great place to get a burger and shake. It reminds me of the simplicity of growing up without all the fast food giants trying to take over

Big Dipper sits in the shadow of another famous Owensboro landmark but make no mistake this is a spot not to be overlooked on a trip to Owensboro. You order at the window of this nostalgic restaurant, cash is preferred (there is a small surcharge if you use a credit card). We started with dessert, three ice cream sundaes. One hot fudge, one peach and one strawberry. The sundaes were a perfect creamy treat for this 90 plus degree day. The staff was so friendly we took her advice and ordered the pig in a blanket. A juicy hotdog stuffed with cheese wrapped in bacon deep fried and put in a bun with all the toppings. It was delicious! We also got the deep fried cheese because as our granddaughter pointed out the sign said "Try our fried cheese". Our granddaughter really enjoyed them, it was not to disappoint.

A long time favorite, we hit this place up everytime we are in town. A burger through the garden is how you order "with everything". Top this off with crunchy onion rings and a chocolate malt. Take cash because they do not do debit cards as a way to keep prices low. Rumor has it that when they opened years ago that the franchised burger joints would close them down but they prove good food never fails. They always have long lines out into the street.

Big dipper is a must have if you are visiting Owensboro. Classic drive up diner spot with everything you would expect from a classic diner.Things to know:1. Bring cash. they do not accept cards and there is nothing worse than waiting in line and finding out this fact because you missed the signs. Trust me, this is experience talking.2. You'll see menu items called "Pig" and "Spicy Pig". You want to order this. A hotdog split with cheese inside, wrapped in back, and fried. It's as good as it sounds. Get it with mustard and onion.3. Spicy Pig is SPICY! You've been warned so be prepared. Grab a chocolate malt to cool it down.4. "Sausage on a Bun" is just that: breakfast sausage patty on a hamburger bun. Not bad, but not as great as other items (like Pig).5. Girl Scouts like to setup in the drive-thru during cookie season. What a smart idea!

I've tried twice now and the food is nasty the only good food is the shakes. Burgers taste like cardboard.

Great ice cream place...Long line for drive through...but seemed to move quickly. We parked and went to window. Very impressed with prices... my husband and I each got a large twist cone and one fish sandwich and total was $9.10. Which we found to be very reasonable. And it was yummy!!

I have been a regular at the Dipper for 50 years, you won't find a better place to go in the area. Food is always good and the price is better than most. We never get tired of this place

Classic Americana kind of spot, since 1954. Can be a hassle to get into the parking lot, but worth it. Love the crispness of the burgers. Similar to an In-N-Out burger. Would rate it 5 stars if they could improve their fries a bit; they are not at the same level as the burgers!
