Really nice, in the Summer at least, you can stroll and enjoy the beautiful fields of flowers and wildlife. Lots of history to read about on the signs.

Great museum. A lot of free brochures (great for homeschoolers!). Friendly docent. Informative exhibits. There is a movie in the back room. Worth the stop. Clean restrooms.

I was so excited to visit this spot as I heard so much about it. I even made my hotel reservation in Richmond in anticipation of going there the following morning. It was going to be my first Civil War battlefield in Kentucky. You could only imagine my disappointment-and disgust-when I saw they were closed. Stupid me for thinking they would be open on a Friday at 10:30. There was a notice saying they would be closed for Labor Day for several days. Really?? The Friday before Labor Day is an excuse to shut down for an extended weekend?? What kind of five-and-dime place is this? I drive all the way to the Washington DC area to see a place that is closed. But, hey, I was able to use the bathroom. There really is not alot to the battlefield. I spent much of my time walking alongside a golf course. It is virtually impossible to get a grasp of what went on here just walking the trail along the battlefield.I would recommend skipping this place entirely. I have been going to Civil War battlefields for 50 years and this is the worst experience I ever had. Don't even both planning on coming here. There is a good chance they will be closed. Even if it is the three days before Labor Day, I am sure they will be closed for any one of a number of reasons. Maybe, the cat is sleeping on the patio or they might shut it down to watch an old movie on the AMC.Don't waste your time here. I wish I had not come here. I can summarize my experience here as useless and disappointing.

The visitors center is a must first stop! I've been to many small museum type centers but this is the best I've seen. Very well organized and the videos are great. We particularly enjoyed the Civil War in 4 minutes. Really informative progression of the war w/running death toll makes a lasting impression! The docent will give u a CD for your car driving tour along with a map that tells what happened at each stop. Unfortunately our CD wouldn't play in our truck. Thoroughly enjoyed our day. Would recommend to anyone interested in Civil War history!

We had a great visit to the battle of Richmond site and visitor's center today with our two young boys. It is apparent that a lot of thought and effort has gone into the telling of the site's story and the narrative of the soldiers who fought and died there. It's great to see that this important battleground and some of the structures are preserved. The gentlemen at the Rogers House (visitor's center) were very kind and knowledgeable.
