This is the platonic ideal of a donut - large, fluffy, even crumb structure inside, and not that oily or heavy. Price is reasonable in this day and age (yes it's around $3 per donut, but you're getting twice as much donut as your $2 krispy kreme. Cash only. Better than a lot of these "boutique" donut places that focus on a sugar rush of flavor options because they stick to the classics and nail them. You'll find everything you'd expect from an old school donut spot - plain and chocolate glazed, cinnamon sugar, and sprinkled yeast donuts, some cake donuts, and the maple bar amongst some other bonus options.Grab a donut, grab a seat facing the street, and enjoy all the nice dogs coming through this spot.

Donut Series, Part 15"I need a little sweetness in my life. Sugar, yes please!"Maroon 5Why does it seem like sometimes your body craves something that only an infusion of sugar can satisfy? While I may not know why that happens, I can tell you that donuts sure seem like a great option when you find yourself in this predicament! The owners of "Leucadia Donut Shoppe" have been fulfilling these needs for North County San Diegans for more than 30 years. I heard that this husband and wife team put their kids through college one at a time, so I had to ask them if this local legend is accurate. The husband laughed, told me that it is true, but also confided that the donut gravy train wasn't entirely sufficient and needed to be supplemented by student loans.I was also curious about how the interior walls came to be covered by the photos of so many different patrons. He explained that initially they placed a few family pics on the wall and found that customers wanted to get in on the action themselves (which led to the bumper sticker contributions that now entirely cover their front windows). If you choose to visit while in search of a sugar fix, I think you'll find this to be one of the friendliest places to enjoy a donut. A little advice though: bring cash (that's all they accept) and get here as early as you can. While their advertised closing time is 1:00, on the day we visited most of the donuts had been claimed by 9:00 (and by 10:00 they were down to their last dozen). If you find yourself unable to finish everything, not to worry. Even the birds are friendly here and they'd be more than happy to assist you in finishing whatever you've ordered. And that's...Henry's Take.#sweetlife

Nothing magical happening here, but if you're craving a good classic donut, it's some of the best I've had. Donuts are very heavy and filling. I can't imagine eating more than one. They're dense but also still fluffy. The dough had a nice crumble to it. I don't think any one donut here is better than any of the rest, just personal preference. The shop itself has a nostalgic feeling to it. The type of donut shop you'd imagine out of a movie. *Note: This place only accepts cash or Venmo

I love this place. Consistently fabulous doughnuts, good coffee which they will absolutely add a ridiculous amount of cream to for me, and fresh fresh fresh. The owners are helpful, efficient, friendly. The glazed twist is still my favorite, but they were already sold out when I got there. Get there early for the best selection and bring cash.

Cash only & Donuts are priced individually. It's located right on the 101 and hard to miss. It's your regular donut shop (small inside) and they have the standard basics (glaze, sugar, chocolate, maple, sprinkle, old fashioned). The donuts are good - the glazed twists were the best (super light and fluffy). I went in not realizing they were priced individually. I asked for a dozen and picked like 9 and for the rest to be donut holes, and the total came to $30. So I took a few out and brought it down to $23. I don't think I've ever paid that much for 8 donuts and a dozen donut holes.

Leucadia Donut Shoppe is one of the funky businesses at the soul of the city. The family owned small business resides in a tiny mason building with a huge mural on the west wall. This business is a treasure that is loved by the locals who flock here, cash in hand to purchase their freshly made daily bounty. Donut shoppes have been disappearing along the coast and Solana Beach donuts was replaced by a hipster cafe. The Encinitas Donuts location is now a hair salon, and it is sad to see them disappear. I seldom eat donuts, and I wish I liked them more so that I could send more love to this special business. My only request would be for Almond bear claws instead of apple ones.

LOVE this shop! Located in a cute area! Owners are very sweet and welcoming. Beware that you have to come early to get the good flavors. There's been times where I have come but they are closed early because they ran out of donuts. My only complaint but the donuts are the best I ever had!!
