What a culinary delight! We were the first guests to arrive at the start of dinner service during a mid-week evening. We were warmly welcomed by the coat check host. He confirmed our reservation calling us by name. Our seating preference was requested, and we were shown to the main dining room. Joan Miró art work, large decorative vases of flowers and subtle classical music surrounded us. Fabulous. Our waiter, the warm and open José as well as his associates exuded pride and deep knowledge of the evening's beverage and culinary offerings. There are prix fixe meals, but one can order ala carte, we learned. My personal standouts were: the Wild Mushroom Soup, and Peking Duck with lentils and mandarin glaze. I finished with Artisan Cheeses that included the mushroomy Normandy Camembert - a flavor I've only experienced once before!The wine list is extensive: half-bottles as well as by the glass, for those who prefer more options. I recommend looking at the digestif menu too. Varied, surprising and good!I am including a couple photos of the Ladies Room on the upper level: a meticulously clean, elegantly linened, relaxing space.

Exceptional service - very attentive. All experiences are "fixed price" which I believe is about 5 courses. However, you can pick from multiple in each category. The mushroom bisque was phenomenal as was the foie gras with plums. Portions were in the small side but we left full. Les Nomades strays from the newer restaurant feels which are industrial and swank and takes you make to old school Chicago class.

Timeless, beloved French townhouse dining that remains a jewel to my husband and I. They have mastered the balance of formality and friendliness.We've dined here a few times now, and have had wonderful experiences each time. Mind you, I do not favor French cuisine (prefer light, eastern Mediterranean food above all), but truly did enjoy my meal here. We have done both the 4-course and 5-course menus. Caviar (not Beluga or Ossetra but a good Sevruga)- 4Escargots (mushrooms, leeks, garlic)- 4.5Foi Grois (premier source of it)- 4 (my husband loved it, but I... less so)Lobster salad- 4.5Soups- 5Rosemary Lamb and Veal medallions- 5!Dover sole and potatoes- 5Duck with lentils- 5! RECOMMENDRib-eye with farro- 5Vanilla creme brûlée with berries- 5!Carrot cake with blueberries- 5!Coffee souffle- 5!Lattes- 4Highly recommend for a special dinner or occasion. This place has been around for ages and there is a reason for that. Food tastes great and the service is excellent. You can pick from a four course or 5 course menu and what I love about it is that they actually have a cheese course offering. As mentioned the food is outstanding and the portions are extremely generous. However, one of the reasons why I am only giving this place 4 stars is because I felt the plating could have been given a little more attention. Another thing that I feel let's the place down is the decor is a bit dated now. It hasn't changed in the last 15 years since I first went there. Saying that the meal is EXTREMELY reasonably priced for what you get and the service puts some Michelin star restaurants to shame. Overall, I highly recommend this place.

Surely this location must be in contention for a Michelin star. The food is exquisite. Service equally outstanding. We have visited 2 times and each time left extremely satisfied. I think by far the best French restaurant in Chicago!

Summary - go here if you enjoy fine dining in a way that is very different than all the current in vogue trends. Here you get your own table. Here you get service as if you were the only one in the restaurant by people who have been serving the most discriminating dinners for decades. Here you will be treated with respect and deference. Here you will taste french cooking as it was and deservedly was considered the finest european cuisine for decades.I have been eating at high end restaurants for 50 years. There was one restaurant in St. Louis that matched this kind of service back then. I was reminded of those memories when the crumbs from each service were swept from the table. I was reminded of this service when my wine glass never was empty. When the wine was presented with all the flourish including an explanation of region and history.I don't know where the other reviewers were or what their problems were with this place as they described it as pretentious or rigid or stuffy. my god it was a joyous place. i have to think those folks brought attitude to it and so it just was reflected back to them.

This restaurant NEVER fails. From the moment you arrive, you are treated like royalty. The ambience and service are superior. With each course, flavors awaken, tease and delight your senses. The beauty of each dish, the aromas, and finally, the exquisite taste. Some dishes an explosion of flavors, others are subtle. All make my eyes close with delight when the food touches my palate. I first experienced this restaurant in my 20s and I fell in love. I knew that classic french cuisine is the basis of culinary excellence. This restaurant imprinted on me the myriad reasons why this is true. I am still in love with this restaurant.
