Lefty's Burger Shack

I honestly hate that I am writing this review but it's what I do. I try new places and I review them. I had hoped judging by the enormous lines that consistently form outside of this establishment that is was a sign of good things to come. Boy was I wrong! We visited on a day when the weather was not too good and so there was no line to wait in on this day. We placed our order from the simple menu on par with burger stands like Dick's or In-n-Out. You know, we offer a burger, cheeseburger, or the doubles of those with a couple other things type of menu. My wife ordered a double cheeseburger and I got a double, bacon burger. We both opted for the half n half consisting of half french fries and half onion rings but that was seriously disappointing. Overall they just aren't good. I really don't see why people line up for this food. They boast that their burgers are made to order but the beef was tough and grisly. Not like it had any filler but like they didn't trim the meat before grinding it. I honestly doubt that they grind their own beef though. The half and half was more like the 90/10 with a pile of store bought frozen crinkle cut french fries and then 4 onion rings per order. It's a shame too because they actually have the second best onion rings that I've had anywhere so I was a bit disappointed to only receive 4 of them. Their fry sauce is the basic mayo and ketchup but it wasn't mixed very well and we both ordered cokes with no ice that both came with ice so the attention to detail is lacking as well. We've been looking for a good burger joint to frequent and I'm sorry to say that Lefty's is just not that joint. What makes people line up and wait in long lines for this food? I don't understand it.

Burgers are good but a bit small. The meat is better than most fast foods. The crinkle fries are good, but a bit greasy.I would tell you how the onion rings are, but they screwed up my order and I got 2 fries instead of onion rings and fries.

Lefty's offers very good burgers, fries, and shakes. I ordered a chocolate peanut butter shake & it was excellent. I also ate my one annual onion ring, which is offered as a combo with the fries, and it was excellent. Next year, I'll go back for another. They added some nice picnic tables for lunch on a nice day. The chicken strips my friend ordered weren't any good, but the rest of what we ordered was very good.

Popular place in Unuversity Place. Noone's ever been disappointed with their burger , fries or shakes! Highly recommend for different pace of burger etc!

I was on my way to see a friend when hunger struck. I wanted something quick and Lefty's shack caught my eye so pulled in for a meal. I figured the line to order was a good sign. However, I discovered they are definitely not fast food. I'm all for fresh / made to order, but from the time I got in line to the time I got was food was easily 20 minutes, and I can't say it was worth it. Prices are very reasonable so there's that. The girl in the window didn't know the menu very well. I wanted to see if they could add tomato to my cheeseburger but apparently they don't carry tomato?! So it's just meat, cheese, special sauce and lettuce because I don't like pickles or onion. It's basically the size of a McDonald's quarter pounder. The burger was grilled more on the well done side and didn't have a memorable taste. I also got a vanilla milk shake which was creamy and yummy, but didn't entirely make up for the burger. I was hoping to use the rest room while I waited but they don't have one FYI. Tons of parking and a few tables outside if the weather is nice enough. Would come back for another shake if in the mood while in the area, but avoiding the tomato-less meh burgers for sure.

My husband and I live close by and go to Lefty's about every two months. They are very consistent with their burgers, we both love the double cheeseburger. The only thing I would say is that the burgers are usually pretty greasy which is not my personal favorite (but I know some people prefer that!) definitely recommend this place!

Still on point. These burgers are fantastic. My only regret is not getting more than one lol. Keep it up lefty's, this place is legit!

We had a great experience, finally trying this UP staple of a restaurant after nearly 3 years of living here and attending church right up the road!We came on a brisk but sunny winter day in February, taking advantage of the dry weather to sit outside and enjoy our food before we go to the zoo. Long story short, it's everything you would expect from a burger shack that's been around for quite a while. Delicious, if greasy, burgers, and great small business service. Our food came out in a timely manner and was very reasonably priced! Lunch for three with 2 drinks for under $40 is hard to find anymore! Will return! :)

Food all not fromScratch or homemade. Hotdogs are Nathan's , Pattie's surely from Costco or local supplier ..Service is okAmbiance is okIf you don't have time to do your own snack ( burgers, hotdogs , etc) and want to try this instead of famous burger chains go here.Taste of all the foods are just ok nothing special or fancy on my own personal taste and opinion.2 star Bec was expecting more for my taste buds, but all of the food can be made at home and better I say.

Walk up window only; no seating. Standard cheeseburger, crispy OR's, and a chocolate-syrup shake was nothing fancy at all but GOOD! A good cheeseburger for less than $5 - are you kidding me? Nope - real deal. Best value for my dining dollar ANYWHERE. Please don't change a thing! I love this little neighborhood gem - keep doing what you're doing.
