Delicious food, fairly priced for the unique and higher-end quality and atmosphere. Cocktails are great too. Fantastic place to charm / impress your date, whether your first or five-hundredth dinner together. Only change we'd make from our first visit vs future visits is we'd order less food next time. We ordered an excessive amount, as we asked the waiter what would be appropriate for two people. He suggested a main and a small plate per person, and then we got dessert. We left comfortably full, not stuffed, with over half of our meal in a takeout box. In hind-sight, the perfect amount for a 180#M and 140#F where you leave satisfied and not egregiously full would be to split a main and a small plate, and if you're still craving something, to get one of their incredible desserts. This is a great restaurant to try something new in, as their food was all incredible.

Le Colonial way exceeded expectations and was the best way to be introduced to French-Vietnamese fusion cuisine Roasted duck: definitely satisfied my cravings! the skin was slightly crispy and the taste was really similar to Cantonese-style roast duck. The sweet picked carrots and radish sprinkled on top were a great addition to the dish and the sweet sticky dipping sauce was absolutely delicious. Also really loved the mushroom sticky rice on the side!Spicy green curry with shrimp: shrimp were super juicy and bouncy and the green curry was very creamy and fragrant! I loved the addition of crunchy julienned bamboo shoots! Seared scallop noodle salad: more of a cold rice noodle dish than a salad? the dressing was absolutely delicious - it was fragrant and light but the flavor was so unique and balanced

Design and aesthetics are unbelievable, it really does feel like you stepped into a French Indochina hotel dining room. Staff is great, plenty of people around without feeling tight on space. Love the photos, plants, etc, beautiful place to hang out.We had Do Bien Tai Chanh ceviche, Banh Xao noodles with chicken, Cari Tom green curry shrimp, Vit Quay Pekin duck, and Ca Tim Nuong eggplant. Ceviche was by far my favorite, although you may have to ask for more chips. Banh Xao and Cari Tom were fine, no complaints but didn't move the needle. Ca Tim Nuong was particularly bland, especially compared to Yuxiang eggplant. The duck was very interesting, lots of strong flavors with sour and sweet notes, and came with a small quantity of Shiitake mushroom sticky rice (not enough for curry). It's basically anti-Asian to charge for white rice, and white jasmine rice is $4/6. Curry doesn't come with rice either for some reason? Are you supposed to drink it? From a cost/taste perspective, the menu comes off overpriced. Not bad by any means, but I would recommend this as a place to impress your guest primarily with the ambience.

Been here a few times and love it. The chicken curry is my favorite and the margaritas are so yummy and refreshing. Can generally get a seat upon walking in. Love the patio room with all the light but the decor and ambience inside is just as cool. Good service, perfectly attentive - not too much or too little. So fun to go to after a little shopping.

One of my favorite restaurants for both the food and ambiance. There are three distinct "sections" that give off very different French-Vietnamese vibes. It transports you to outside of the city. The food is always delicious. I've tried 85% of their menu, and nothing disappoints from the pho, to the spare ribs, the red snapper, the shaking beef, curries, scallop salad, crispy egg roll, etc.Cocktails are also tasty, global, and refreshing. This time, the one off putting aspect was how focused one of the hosts were on us having to clear out by 6:45. Our reservation was 2 hours earlier and we ran a little late so we gave them a call and from that point onwards, the host kept pushing that. We left before 6:45 but were definitely concerned at how fixated they were on that.

The ambiance was nice. I really enjoyed the plants and the artwork. We started with the Cha Gio (crispy shrimp and pork roll) and the Banh Uot (Sesame Beef Ravioli). Both were pretty good, but not out of this world. The roll was pretty classic and the ravioli was definitely more unique. The signature fried rice was better than I was expecting given that it had broccoli which I thought would be weird, but was actually really good. The Shaking Beef was by far the best dish and I would go back just to have more of it! Two apps and two mains was a good amount of food for two people and we went home with a little bit of leftover rice.

I have been dreaming about the green curry ever since I have had it. This was my second time coming here and I was even more impressed than the first time. I brought my mother here for her birthday dinner and they truly did take care of us. The plates were courses in a timely manner but didn't feel rushed. The atmosphere is truly unique, like you are in someone else's house but it's a restaurant. I can't speak any more highly of this establishment.

After hearing wonderful things about Le Colonial, I finally was able to spend an evening with a friend for dinner here. From the moment you step on the elevator to go up, to entering the restaurant, you feel the luxurious history of the building. The ambiance embodies the classic element of being in such an old Chicago building which I loved. The service was excellent and very accommodating. Nothing stood out specifically but I appreciated how timely everything was, despite how busy the restaurant got. The food was delicious and I'll be dreaming of the lychee martinis I had. The Cha Gio Chay was flaky, crispy, and flavorful as was the Sui Cao Chien. The Suon Nuong had a good amount of meat on them and we were even given warm towels afterwards to clean our hands with. All apps came with just enough for two people to share evenly. For a main, we shared the Banh Xao and I enjoyed a bowl of the Pho Bo. It was hard to choose a favorite but I took the Banh Xao home for leftovers and ended up eating them that same night so it's safe to say that was the standout dish for me. However, the Pho Bo left me warm and happy on a cold evening. Le Colonial is a great place if you're celebrating something special or just want to splurge on a nice meal like I did. I can't wait to come back when I'm looking to treat myself again. :)
