I came here for lunch during the week. It wasn't crowded at all. It was very quiet. They offer indoor and outdoor seating. The staff members were super friendly.I ordered the make it yourself shrimp spring rolls. The waiter even demonstrated how to make it by preparing my first one. They also had the best coconut water I've ever tasted.I also ordered a lunch special, the shrimp stirfry, which came with a soup and side salad as well as a couple of other things. I can't say I was a fan of any of the items in this special. Plus there were maybe four shrimp. They didn't have a lot of the traditional Vietnamese dishes that you normally see such as a wide variety of vermicelli bowls, but I did really enjoy the appetizer I ordered.

First time trying this restaurant. It good, and they had a nice selection. I ordered off the lunch menu. I ordered the fried sole, which had a nice light coating but I don't think it was sole. It was also supposed to have a ginger or lemongrass taste, which it did not. It was supposed to have chicken wontons, which it did not. Maybe because it was fried? The soup eggdrop?? Had no flavor I added spice and soy. I will say my dining partners enjoyed their food. Two ordered clay pot and two had curry shrimp. The appetizers looked good, with lots of veggies. The coconut ice cream was refreshing. I would order something else the nexttime, the plates looked light and fresh.

I've been wanting to try this restaurant for a long time. I expected it to be predominantly Vietnamese food, but it really wasn't. I thought most of it was delicious, but there were a couple misses. I ordered from the lunch specials. I ordered the chicken curry. It was served with soup of the day, 2 crispy chicken wontons, green salad and fried rice. Everything was served hot and delicious, except I wasn't thrilled with the soup. It was kind of a "muddled" chicken and rice soup without much flavor. The chicken curry was made with chicken breast which I really like, but on the menu it indicated that it was spicy. It wasn't. It was still delicious, though. A friend of mine ordered the fried sole lunch special. She was disappointed. She thought that it would come with the ginger aromatic sauce as described in the seafood part of the menu. It didn't. It was a rather skimpy portion of chunks of fried fish, no sauce. I would like to return and try some other dishes. The service was superb!

Food (5/5 stars):Le Bambou is an amazing higher-end Vietnamese restaurant. They even have a wide array of vegetarian options and bang for your buck lunch specials! I enjoyed the Chargrilled Pork on Skewer lunch special, which came with rice, salad, chicken wontons, and their soup of the day (not pictured). The highlight was the sauce on the pork. It tasted very similar to the Peking Duck sauce. Overall, such a delicious and filling meal. I'm looking forward to trying their pho and other entrees!Experience (5/5 stars):* Price: a little pricier than a typical Vietnamese restaurant, but very worth* Wait Time: minimal during lunch on a Tuesday* Service: very good and friendly. They gave great recommendations* Parking: there's a parking lot* Ambiance: it's beautifully decorated. I love the black and white pictures of Vietnam plastered on the walls

Le Bambou, I apologize for the times I've forgotten about you, tucked into the corner and behind the water feature. I can't say Bambou makes the best pho in SD; we've got an entire neighborhood devoted to stuff like that. But their pho is always very, very good, and they're very, very close by my home. The restaurant is upscale-looking inside, albeit, as another reviewer noted, in an 80's kind of way. They always have a couple tables set up outside, which is great, because my pup loves to await me handing over the big beef rib bone that protrudes from my favorite pho there. So, I guess 4.6 stars... which we'll round up to 5.

Wonderful, more upscale Vietnamese restaurant, in other words, wait staff dressed in formal black, linens on the table, and wine list available.Menu items were pretty diverse with rice and noodle options and stir fry's. I selected the house special claypot rice, which has a bit of everything - chicken, shrimp, veggies. Surprisingly, the typical "takes about 20-25 minutes" was not noted for this item on the menu, as is typically the case for claypot dishes at other restaurants. My husband ordered the shaking beef entree. Both dishes came out at the same time. The shaking beef was so flavorful and tender! I loved the claypot as well, great texture from the rice that's stuck to the pot and the tender chicken, some different flavors from the medley of veggies, it was very comforting. Best of all, service was very friendly and attentive.

Last night, Eva, Jan and I had a wonderful night out at Le Bambou, Del Mar. It's a quaint family run Restaurant with white tablecloths and candles. Great atmosphere buried in the back of a small shopping center that has recognizable names like Von's and Jack in the Box.Let's get to the review:We start with a Shrimp Salad. This is their salad with shrimp and shrimp toast on it. Jan says: "I love the crunch". I talk about the dressing being so light and flavorful. Eva says: "You're right about the dressing on the salad. Perfect. Just perfect". Off their menu it says: "This dish is shredded carrots, daikon, cucumber, and celery all marinated in our tangy "Le Bambou" dressing".Next, we order the Vegetable Ambrosia. It's sautéed vegetables, tofu, and rice noodles that you wrap in rice paper with lettuce, fresh vegetables, and mint. It's served with a peanutdipping sauce. And it's fun! It took me years to like rice paper wraps (you dip them in the warm water they provide, put it down on your plate, load it with ingredients and roll it up). But I will say this: once you start eating them, it quickly becomes your favorite thing to eat, because it's healthy, light and tastes really good.Last, we order the Seafood and Beef Compote. It's Shrimp, beef, chicken, squid, scallop, vegetables, mushroom, ginger, and spices cooked in a broth at the table, served with steamed rice or rice noodles. We left out the beef, being healthier and all. (I'm only eating grass fed beef these days, and only occasionally)! Both Eva and I are basically healthy chefs. She says: "I am totally delighted with feeling light and well filled.... And nourished". Jan adds: "I come for the food primarily, but the ambiance is a real close second".When we think about going out to dinner, there's are times we want decadent. But as a regular place to go eat, what calls to me is something will great flavor profiles that is basically healthy. Something family run where their goal really is to make the customer happy. I like to come away from a meal feeling like I have eaten well. And on top of that, if you want a dessert, I highly recommend their Flan. It's more of a creme brûlée without a crunchy topping .... and yet? It's got a little more substance. I don't know of any place but here that I can get this yummy dessert! I just love it!Eva adds: "It's nice to come to a restaurant where we don't have to shout at each other to be heard. We can actually talk"! And that's also what makes a meal... good food, good wine and good conversation. I thank the restaurant and the company I dined with!Chef Marian
