HIGHLY RECOMMENDED I don't know if I have ever had a meal that had this much flavor! We ordered cheese Katsu, scallops croquettes, skewers assorted, & a best tasting Dragon Roll ever made. We had something else, we ate it so fast it was so good, we didn't have a chance to take a picture. Our waiter was especially attentive to providing exceptional service. I forget to get their names. The ambiance in the restaurant was very casual as well as professional. We really enjoyed our date night having an excellent dinner there for Valentine Day !

Ton Shou is a Japanese Katsu Restaurant located in Chinatown. They offer a variety of Katsu Plates that come with soup, rice, and cabbage salad. Only the first two pages of the menu are offered during lunch hours. The seating is mostly half booths but they do have some bar seating. We started out by sharing the Chicken Karaage. It was chunks of chicken with a great shattering crisp exteriors. Not sure what happened here but inside was rubbery skin with chicken that was hard to eat. The chicken also had little flavor. But on the other hand both katsu dishes we tried were spectacular and surpassed our expectations. Both the Rosu (pork loin) and Salmon were both very meaty and very juicy. They both were breaded to perfection. They come with soup, cabbage salad, steamed rice, and condiments. Service was good. They worked as a team to serve us.The Katsu is amazing here. That is what you must get here.4.5 Stars

Everything here was amazinggg. Food was perfect, service was great, and decor is nice. Highly recommend!!The portobello fries were fried perfectly, with juicy mushroom on the inside. The ikayaki was on the house (lucky us), because they didn't have the full squid available. All the katsu in the tonshou special tasted great. Lots of meat, light + perfectly crisped breading. It was consistent with what I expect of a great quality tonkatsu. The menchi katsu sando was amazing. I don't know how they did it, but the milk bread was fluffy and toasted perfectly + the katsu breading on the inside was crispy, yet soft. The egg inside the sando was also seasoned perfectly well. Biting through the sando was effortless. This restaurant has now raised my standard for katsu sando. Side note - the pic made the portion size look small, but the sandwich was pretty filling. The oolong peach was not bad, but it's not for me.

We waited a bit for our food, but it was absolutely worth it when it arrived. This might be one of the best katsu meals I've ever had, and that's coming from someone who recently visited Japan. The pork was incredibly tender, the salad was perfectly seasoned, the soup was spot on, and the rice was cooked to perfection.

Definitely get the hire katsu, very tender and crispy pork. I enjoyed it with the fluffy rice, hot mustard, and salad on the side. The fried cheese was pretty good, a little bit tough. I also think the fried portobello was OK, a lot of breading with no mushroom. My bf liked it though. I also recommend getting the curry sauce as well, if you're a curry fan. Great customer service, and the restaurant itself is decorated pretty nicely too.

This was a very tasty dining experience and was our first time trying this eatery. You can make a reservation online which is very convenient and highly recommend since the interior is small. The decor is simple but comfortable. You definitely don't get a lot of room, and it's abit tight between tables. The service was friendly but not terribly attentive. A drink order was forgotten and water was not very proactively refilled. We tried the chicken karage starter. The chicken was juicy with a crunchy coating, but it lacked the sake flavor you expect from karage. Still good for what it was, though. I had the chicken tonkatsu entree. This was very delicious! The chicken was juicy and the coating crunchy but not oily. I love the freshly steamed rice you get with the meal as well. We also tried the house special which includes shrimp and two kinds of pork. I have to say the pork was better than the chicken. It was amazingly tender and delicious with an almost cloud-like texture similar to what you get from the famous Saboten restaurant in Asia. Overall, this was a great dining experience that we look forward to repeating!!

Overall: 4.5/5 [dine in]We did a walk-in for a party of 4 and had to wait a bit before we were seated. The seating area was a bit cramped so it's not an ideal place for an intimate conversation.Oolong Peach Highball ($14): Super light--I'd recommend saving your money and skipping this. Opt for a regular iced oolong peach tea instead.Chicken Karaage ($9.75): Delicious! The chicken pieces were big, juicy, and perfectly battered and fried. They paired excellently with the matcha tartare sauce.Portobello Fries ($12.95): These were fantastic! Huge, crispy slices of portobello that retained their juiciness without turning soggy. The flavors were amazing with or without the sauce. It's easy to see why this is a customer favorite.Menchi Skewers ($8.75): Two skewers of minced pork and onion cutlet served with katsu sauce. The meat was soft, with a texture similar to meatballs--super flavorful and juicy. I actually prefer these skewers over the menchi sando.Menchi Katsu Sando ($13.95): This sandwich features a menchi katsu patty, egg salad, cabbage, and a mix of sando and katsu sauces, all between two slices of green tea milk bread. The bread had a lovely light green color and was lightly toasted, keeping it soft. While the menchi katsu was flavorful and well-prepared, the sandwich was a bit messy to eat, as the filling tended to slide out with each bite. The combination of ingredients worked well together, but I felt that menchi katsu doesn't hold up as well in a sando compared to regular tonkatsu.Ton Shou Special ($35.95) + Side of Curry ($5): My husband chose the Ton Shou Special, which offers a variety of meats--rosu katsu (pork loin), hire katsu (pork tenderloin), and ebi katsu (tiger shrimp). It also included cabbage salad, donjiru soup, and freshly made kettle-cooked rice. This substantial meal could easily be shared between two people. He added a side of curry, which, though nothing extraordinary, was perfect for dipping all the katsu.
