The food options here are going anywhere but south.Southland Burrito is one of the founding members of the Canteen Food Hall at the Rio Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. Physically located around the middle of the back of the area, they take orders either at register or at one of the kiosks shared by all of the restaurants in the food hall. To use the latter, it's as easy as walking up to one of the kiosks, scrolling and tapping thru the menu, and swiping a payment card, which could be your Rio Rewards card if you're using any dining credit and/or points. That's what I did to get my Tejano ($14.00) burrito, a massive tortilla stuffed with brisket, cheese, rice, beans, jalapeño crema, chiltepin salsa, and cilantro. The portion size was huge, and it wound up being a bit more than I was comfortable with for dinner; two lunches or a lunch for two would be advisable. The brisket was good overall. It did get portioned unevenly in some parts and could have been cut thinner to make it consistently tender, but at least it didn't leave me with as poor an impression as some other reviewers got from ordering asada here. Some people may read the burrito description and be disappointed that the various peppers didn't contribute a ton of capsaicin, but I don't mind as I'm more sensitive to spicy. As for the rest of the contents, I was pleased with the melange of flavors and textures and didn't mind having so much filler. Pro tip: if you happen to have kimchi handy, try adding some. The service is pretty basic since it's basically a counter, and seating is shared with all the neighbors. It looked clean at a glance, although I took my food to-go for dinner that night. I actually got my burrito with a plastic Rio-branded bag, which one of their neighbors didn't offer me.I'll keep Southland Burrito in my rotation for when I get incentivized by the Rio in the future. It's not the most amazing burrito I've had, but I was pleased overall.

Disgusting. The staff was very friendly and the area was clean but the all the food was just terrible. I came for lunch with two other friends who felt the same way. I got the carne asada burrito which tasted like heavily spiced refried beans and thick taco seasoning. None of us could finish.

This is one of my favorite burritos that I've had at one of the Las Vegas food halls! Located in the new Canteen Food Hall at the Rio Hotel just off the Strip, I was visiting to try a little something from the various spots in the food hall, and was pleasantly surprised by how great much of it was, including here at Southland Burrito! The prices all seemed very reasonable, especially for the size of these burritos. They are HUGE!! You could easily feed two or more people with just one of them. When taking that into consideration, I'd say that they are an amazing value! There was no way I could finish it by myself and still couldn't finish it as a leftover later that evening back in the hotel room! As for the quality of the burrito itself, I found myself very impressed! Great variety of textures and flavors. Delicious and well balanced contrast between the crunchiness of some toppings and creaminess of others. My California Burrito had flavorful pollo asada inside in addition to numerous other toppings, with a tad bit of spiciness to it, although not overpowering. If you want more spice, there were a few salsa options - I did a more mild avocado salsa that added additional flavor and creaminess to the bites - LOVED IT! Southland Burrito is an excellent option for hearty burritos that could easily feed a couple or even a family, and I highly recommend!

The food was not bad, but the wait was long and there was ice in the salad. The California had a huge piece of cream cheese, I think that's what "jalapeño crema" is. Guac was good, and it got the job done.

Pretty ok.Had a breakfast burrito since it was breakfast time. The burrito was pretty huge. Cost around $12. The ingredients were not evenly distributed and bites were not made equal. I think mine just has 2 tots inside.

I took a bite of an asada burrito and, for some reason, did not taste like asada. The cheese was too much. Server Donovan was nice. Ambiance is okay. Inside a casino towards the back, we didn't know this was here till we found it by accident, lol. They sell other types of food in this location, but my husband wanted his burrito. The only and kinda major thing is the cigarette smell, I don't smoke, it makes my neaseau therefore no appetite. Thank you Donovan!

Southland Burrito is located inside the new food court at The Rio hotel and casino. Arriving shortly after 5pm during the week, the food court was nearly empty. I was able to walk right up and order. No upselling which was nice but would've liked to hear recommendations as I was a new customer and never eaten at this place before. Easy menu to read over. Minimal wait due to no one being at this establishment when I ordered. Smooth transaction. I got the California burrito that had carne asada, fries, beans, avocado and a few other things. Upon opening up the packaging, I immediately noticed that the burrito has a panini type press marks on the top making it a bit crispy. I'm undecided if I was a fan of that or not. I didn't see any options for gluten free which is something that we typically look for in places. The burrito was average tasting. Nothing special IMO. But if you like stickers, ask for them, the staff will happily give you some. The food court does offer a beverage machine with over 50 different kinds of drinks from major beverage companies.

We liked the food hall, definitely has a different feel than the typical food court. It's at the west end of the casino. The digital menu was not working but they did have some laminated ones on the counter. Small menu. Good portions, really packs in the ingredients. Just one kind of salsa. Need to ask for it. We ordered the BCR burrito and the breakfast burrito. My wife loved the BCR. Awesome tortilla. My breakfast burrito was good, not great. It seemed to eat kinda mushy, tots didn't hold up to offer enough texture. Soft, runny fried egg, which was different. We will certainly go again.

I am sharing this review to express my disappointment with the recent food service in hopes it reaches the right person! My visit fell short of expectations due to l was refused a side of salsa with my purchased guacamole and chips.I asked for an extra side of salsa with my already purchased and prepared guacamole and chips. The cashier said one per order. I volunteered to pay for the extra side of salsa. The cashier said they don't do that and it's one salsa per order. That she didn't have a function on the register to charge for a side of salsa.I asked for the manager. The cashier stepped away for 3 mins. I could see her and others laughing in the back while she was on her cell phone. Finally, Tony, the manager came over. As he was walking over, he leaned and turned to the cashier whispering. No introduction and he didn't ask me any questions. So, I expressed I wanted a refund since I was not able to purchase a side of salsa. He said okay and walked away. Again, leaving me standing there for several minutes. There was no effort of any accommodation or understanding. He came back to do the return still with no introduction or dialogue. When I asked for his name, a DM's name, or their corporate number, he laughed and hand wrote on a paper Rio 702777777. Said, "Have a nice day".This significantly impacted my experience being treated with such disrespect and left me frustrated, dissatisfied, embarrassed, and hungry. This company just waisted food that had already been purchased, prepped and put in a to go bag, for the food now has to be tossed. The manager, Tony, did not have the best interest of the company with his attitude and approach. He lost the company food inventory and money! Instead he was content with his smirk, laugh, shrugging of shoulders, derogatory comment, and did the refund.
