Did you know that if you're drinking a Corona, that you bought anywhere in the state of Nevada, it made its first stop, after the factory, at Southern Wine & Spirits? Same goes for Skyy Vodka, Patron, Fiji Water, and a bevy of other beverages, seeing as SWS has 15,000 SKUs in their system. They distribute 75% of the beverages here in Nevada. Insanity.I went here for a tour this morning (6/1/11) on a hospitality purchasing field trip. I'm not sure the general public can get a tour, but regardless, the tour was great. It was mind-blowing to see the sheer volume of alcohol on hand in this place. Imagine how many Coronas, say, a casino might go through in a day - a lot right? Now multiply that by all the casinos. That's even more! Now add up all the grocery, warehouse and convenience stores that sell them... and then multiply that by 35-45 days. Yeah, SWS keeps between 35-45 days worth Nevada's consumption of Corona, in their warehouse. It's the craziest thing I've seen - the total number of Corona pallets are easily double the size of an average family home here in Vegas. They say everything is bigger in Texas, no. Everything in Vegas is bigger. Imagine 3 or 4 Costcos, turned into liquor refrigerators; that's what SWS is like. One "Costco" is at 58*F (+$10/bottle) and the other "Costco" is at 68*F (Less than $10 /bottle) I can't imagine their electric bills. As we (our class) ate flaxseed waffles, fruit salad and banana bread, made by the head chef at SWS (yum!) we listened to really friendly people from SWS tell us some cray-cray stories about the kinda stuff they go through to get high rollers some rare wines at the drop of a hat, the legal red tape (that most of us didn't know existed) of buying, selling and distributing alcohol in the US and how to secure and manage a place that's so imperative to the success of Las Vegas. If you have the chance to go here and listen to a presentation and go on a tour, DO IT! It was an eye-opening and interesting way to spend a few hours this morning.

I've been here before and enjoyed my class. This time however I was blown away. 2 million dollar classroom. They will tell you all about the amazing features. Ergonomically designed bar and seating. Swivel seats with foot rest, didn't complain about comfort throughout the 7 hour class. Completely lit bar and counters. I mean it is really beautiful. Outlets for everyone and shelving for your personal belongings. Several large tv screens. Cameras and all. Breakfast:Coffee teaYogurt, fruit, granola, Danishes Lunch:Salad, beet salad, sautéed Vegetables, pork, rotisserie chicken, petite dessertsThe instructors are passionate about what they do. You walk away with a lot of great knowledge. Our bartender was a bit talkative, often about additional unnecessary information. Made it feel a bit lengthy at times. The cocktails were pretty good though. I would suggest that during slideshows, it would be helpful to have videos play in full screen instead of within the template frame. I will say last year our instructor came off as racist. Some of us asked questions and were eager to learn. However I felt deliberately ignored and saw judgement in his eyes. The thing about him though, he was actually totally engaging. We were all very entertained and it helped us retain the information. Shoutout to Steve who was very kind and informative. Would take classes here again. I bet it's awesome to work here!

This is a fantastic venue! I came for an event during Vegas Uncork'd. Their Master Sommeliers and Mixology and Spirits Educators are amazing. The cocktails are top notch, and the bites are delicious. The classroom is beautiful and high tech. I would love to come back!

Special thanks to Larry Ruvo and the leaders of Southern Wine and Spirits for the celebration honoring the heroes of September 11, 2001 at the World Trade Center. We all felt so welcome by your generous hospitality, the tour of Southern Wine and Spirits and the delightful lunch with deli specialties reminding us of the recipes we miss in New York City. Thank you for the gifts, famous whiskey and taste of those special bottles of Ace of Spades. The singers, music, speeches, bag pipes, military guard, all of us were talking about your event at Southern Wine for days when we reunited again for the events on Sunday, September 11, 2016.
