So, I have some mixed feelings about this place. I do not believe it is worth the hype. I would just go here for drinks and the atmosphere. The service is excellent. Like the old school three wait staff per table. There is a beverage staff, hostess and a food service personnel. Then, you are interacting with your main server. So, you are paying so much extra for the attention. Their portions are slight. Perfect if you are slimming down. However, I did not find the chef's execution on point as expected. Very surprised !!!

After lacing up my retro skates, it took me about 5 nerve-wracking minutes to tediously make my over to the skating rink. Pathetic, I know, but this girl never learned how to roller skate so I was like a fish outta water. As I clung to my husband and the the edges of the rink for support and stability, I still found myself having an amazingly good time at Down & Derby Roller Skating Disco. This Roller Skating Disco is held at Gold Spike every third Wednesday of the month. There is no cover and roller skate rentals are free. All you have to do is sign a waiver and hand over your ID in exchange for some skates. It's basically FREE fun. Roller disco attire is encouraged, and plenty of people took this to heart. People-watching kept me plenty occupied. The music was surprisingly good. The outdoor DJ mostly played 90s hip-hop like Easy-E's "Cruisin' down the street in my '64" and Biggie Small's "Hypnotize". Got me right in the nostalgic feels. Roller Disco starts at 9PM - this is not the time to show up fashionably late. The line to get skates gets insane by 10:30PM. We arrived at 9:20 and only had two people in front of us. :) Alcohol prices are average for downtown. Bartenders give all alcohol out in plastic cups with a cap and straw for your skating convenience. A small sized draft beer was $4.50. One of my friends said they paid $8-9 for a simple cocktail. All in all, Gold Spike's Down & Derby Roller Skating Disco is as good as it gets! Even better if you legit know how to roller skate lol. It doesn't get any better for a cheap, fun night out on the town on a Wednesday night.YELP 100 CHALLENGE 2015: #242

Down and Derby is so freakin awesome or shall I say SkateTastic lol. The rental skates are all examined and check before prior to use. The people behind the skate counter they always have a smile on their faces from start to finish. For those that don't have their own skates, all you have to do is sign a waive let them hold you DL. Now if you have sk8s like I do just sign the waiver then get your butt on the floor. The floor is inspected too by a professional jam-skater that wears a wig and looks like Rick-James from time to time. That guy skates and interacts with the crowd, and does neat tricks like flips, splits, break-dancing, all on skates etc... He is freakin awesome (cough cough wink wink) The music is off the charts. Seems like the DJ always knows the right songs to play for the whole nite, which is freakin cool because it keep people on the floor enjoying themselves. After you lace up your skates and look around all you see is people have the time of their life, smiles, laughter, couples kissing, etc..... Very good vibe. So with all that said if I had infinity hands with infinity thumbs they would all be thumbs up so to wrap everything I said up in a nutshell Down n Derby Skate Parties is pretty EPIC now Let's Sk8

Showed up to the event on 6/20/2018 and noticed that a skate rental was $10 and included a drink ticket for $10. I had no interest in drinking, so I requested to simply pay for a skate rental. I was told that no-can-do and given some spiel about insurance rates going up. Upon continuing to haggle, I was told to leave and threatened with physical assault by the venue staff. I attempted to advise them of the possible negative legal repercussions and they continued to talk over me and mock me stating that they "deal with people like me on a regular basis" (when saying "people like me", they must have meant to try to make fun of me for my disability). I saw myself out, and to make up for their trouble having to put up with me, I did them a service by pruning some dead branches off of a bush outside the gate. They then threatened again to physically assault me while also holding my arms together with handcuffs. At no point did the Down and Derby staff attempt to stop this egregious violation of personal sovereignty by the staff of Gold Spike. 0/10 would not recommend.
