Darla's Southern Cajun Bistro

I was recommended this place by a friend and it did not disappoint. We went after church on a Sunday and they were able to accommodate us rather swiftly. You can order for dine in or to go. I ordered the chicken and waffles and my husband ordered the catfish with yams and cabbage. Everything was seasoned to perfection. The wings that come with the waffles should be sold by themselves because they were seasoned well and extra crispy how I like them. For dessert we had the peach cobbler and there were equal portions of crust to peaches. My only negative is that when you buy sodas they are essentially opening a can and pouring it in your cup and you are limited as to how many refills you can get. It is the same way with the Kool-Aid except for the refills are even more limited but I did not enjoy the Kool-Aid as it was not sweet. However, the drinks will not make me stop eating here.

Let me start by saying that our server Erika was very nice but that's the only positive I can offer about my experience. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY! It pretends to be a New Orleans style restaurant but the cuisine is not New Orleans AT ALL by taste. Yes the names of the dishes are New Orleans but the taste is from somewhere else. I lived in New Orleans for over 5 years so I have a pretty good idea of what the authentic food tastes like and this is far from it.I had the shrimp and grits. The shrimp were good but the grits were dry. My husband had the shrimp po boy that was drenched in some type of sauce that ruined the sandwich besides the fact that it was on the wrong type of bread, and my son had the rib tips and ate one and literally didnt eat anything else but his fries. The waitress observed that the food had not been eaten and I let her know they didn't like it (they had stepped out). She took the food back and the owner/manager whoever refused to take anything off the bill. Very poor customer service on top of not having good food.DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR YOUR MONEY HERE!

Decided to try Darla's Southern Cajun Bistro because it was listed as a black owned establishment. Arrived at 3pm, the closing time was 4pm.The waiter (Erica) was unpleasant and appear to unknowledgeable about certain menu items; considering she doesn't eat meat.Erica shared that they were out of cabbage and sweet potatoes. The 'dirty macaroni & cheese' was loose and not desirable. Upon requesting something other than the macaroni, Erica rudely informed us that we wouldn't be able to get anything else.I only ordered a side of greens and cornbread because my friend wanted to try this place out for a late lunch.If I were by myself, I would have left the establishment due to the rude tone and demeanor of the waiter.The greens were decent (6/10) and the cornbread had a unique taste (7/10).

WOW!!! The food ana service were phenomenal! We will be talking about this for a while! We are out here from Los Angeles and hands down this is the BEST southern food I've had in a while. I ordered the chicken and waffles but the SHRIMP AND GRITS were the chicken and waffles were as well. Now Erica was something special. She handled a party of 30 with GRACE!!! She was kind and funny and brought our food and drinks flawlessly. Thank you so much, we will be back!!

The customer service was good and they were attentive. I don't know if they don't turn on their air or it was not set correctly it was so hot when we got up to leave my backside was all sweaty and wet. It made it hard to enjoy the food.The pricing is about the same as you would find at any other restaurant like this in Vegas.My husband loved the catfish but the greens lacked flavor and tasted like they were out of a can. The gravy on the mashed potatoes tasted like it came from a jar and not homemade. The chicken was really good. It seems their strong suit is their meats. The sweet potatoes were cooked well and had just the right amount of sweetness. The cabbage was disappointing it was bland and so was the meat that was in the sweet potatoes.

Had the shrimp and grits! we were really impressed with the service and attention we received from our server. I would definitely recommend this spot. The only thing I would change is turning volume off on TV's and play blues or jazz .

The ambiance was nice, clean, and attractive looking. Server was very friendly and thoughtful with the packaging of our meal. Food came out quick. The rice looked as if it had been previously frozen? Hubby said it was fine and he enjoyed the gumbo. The macaroni and cheese was absolutely horrible. I wish they would rethink the recipe because as I glanced through reviews (after the fact) seems to be common complaint. It was goopy, soupy, bland, flavorless, not southern baked or even box. I took half a bite and threw it away. All you tasted was raw flour/roux. No cheese. Yams tasted old? Not sweet at all. Possibly canned and rewarmed. They made my stomach turn. they went straight in the trash also. Catfish was actually very decent. Not sure if I would return but possibly for the breakfast options excluding the sides.

What's all the hype about Korean fried chicken still the best fried chicken comes out the South beside who taught them how to fry chicken. Well this place cooking is about as Southern as you can get which is a high compliment, and the chicken is Ole Skool Southern fried chicken all the side are on point too. Check them out when you are in the area.

When o tell you this is the best shrimp and grits in vegas I mean it. I got so much for the price. I had to take a to go plate. The server was amazing, and the restaurant is neat and clean. On my way home I had a hard stop and the food spilled on the floor of my car. I have never been so tempted to eat off of the floorit was amazing, blasting with flavor. I'm definitely going back.

Darla's has the best shrimp and grits I've even had in my life! Actually all the food is delicious. And Ms. Erika was amazing. Thank you Chef Albert, we can't wait to come back!
