There was no wait at La Puerta on a Thursday night! The restaurant was busy in both the bar and main seating areas. We ordered the Mr Mojo Risin and Purple Haze cocktails which were balanced with a good mix of alcohol and sweet flavors. The Al pastor tacos with the pineapple were phenomenal and very filling with the extra rice and beans. The restaurant is an upscale, but still casual dining experience and a good mix of indoor and outdoor seating.

Good happy hour deal. Half off apps and drinks. The quesadillas and tostadita were both really good and tasty and the drinks were delicious. They supposedly got an award for the best spicy margarita in the country and I can't say they're wrong, the spicy margarita was gooooood. And had a little kick to it. I love the decor inside. It felt like we're in some kind of oasis. The plants and the wooden decor made the whole place feel cool and it's a nice break from the scorching heat outside.

Best happy hour in SD! 3-5pm. Amazing food. Amazing vibes. Amazing drinks. Seriously the most delicious mezcal drinks. It's everything about this place for me. The service was slow, and forgetful.. but still 5-stars bc this is seriously the best happy hour in SD!

La Puerta is a fire Mexican spot in Hillcrest! The food is amazing, and the drinks are top-notch. Our server, Milton, was outstanding, providing excellent service and making sure we felt right at home. The indoor / outdoor seating was a vibe. This place is definitely a five-star experience. We'll be back for sure!

La Puerta in Spanish means the door.La Puerta is a casual mexican restaurant in Mission Hills area of San Diego. To be fair, my review is based only on the number of times I've been here which is only during Hora Feliz = Happy Hour.Happy Hour starts at 3:00p and the restaurant has ample outdoor seating and is dog friendlyI'm usually always with my pup Fendi and we like the cordial and friendly staff here. It gets crowded and seating is limited, so get there early 3ish.The brick outdoor patio which keeps it cool during warm weather, has some greenery and a fireplace lit during chilly whether. The chips and guacamole are enough to share, and if you're there solo, these are so filling, and will leave little to no room for more food in your tummy. The potato filled taquitos or rolled tacos are also really good=muy bueno. Order a Margarita: mango or watermelon icy with semi salted rim, so refreshing, cheers!=salud! Recommend

We met up with some old friends at La Puerta who recommended the place. The inside was super cute with greenery and Mexican art throughout. I love how they did the simplest things to bring us to Mexico such as using tomato cans as utensil holders and serving real Mexican coke. I was pretty full from lunch so I ordered the ceviche which was light and tangy. The seafood in it was a good texture. I wanted to taste their pork, so I ordered a side of pastor which I believe was cooked with pineapples. It wasn't very flavorful so I asked for a bit of hot sauce. It didn't help much. Their chips and dip was good -- I liked the guacamole a lot as it was full of flavor. We ordered flan and churros for dessert. The churros were a bit tough so I'm not sure if they're made to order. The flan was okay. It wasn't very sweet, but I didn't mind. It was a good time overall, and I would recommend.

I've dined at La Puerta a couple of times and I've found it to be consistently enjoyable! The ambience is fantastic, and the staff is friendly and attentive. The food and drinks are good.Don't miss out on the chips and salsa, and if you like a bit of heat, make sure to ask for their mango habanero salsa! The Cesar Salad has a unique, slightly acidic flavor that sets it apart from the typical version.Let's talk about the taco plate...The tacos were good, but the toppings tend to overshadow the meat a bit. The pollo asado was nice and tender, and it was seasoned well. The shrimp taco was okay. Now, onto the torta...I can confidently say it's among the best in San Diego. Packed with a variety of meats and condiments, it's juicy and bursting with flavor. The meat-to-condiment ratio is spot on.Interestingly, the fries are quite delightful, but I'd opt for rice and beans as a side.In summary, give this place a chance if you're in the mood for great food and drinks!

Great local spot on the border of Mission Hills and Hillcrest. Got a Cadillac margarita,Chips and guacamole and for dinner a taco combo plate with beans. Happy Hour on Saturday afternoon? Yes please. Nice to see some businesses trying to help the customers with happy hour discounts on days other than middle of the week. The Margarita was fantastic and the chips and guacamole was delivered with a scoop of Guacamole on top of the chips. I would have preferred to be able to dip them myself. The guacamole was really and the chips were thick and crisp. The taco plate was delicious. Everything was hot. The service was great and really liked the decor. This is a small local business and this is a restaurant that I will definitely revisit.

Happy hour 3-5p daily off entire bar, apps and quesadillas is a great deal!Service was excellent when we went for happy hour. Food came out quickly and drinks were good. Taco Tuesday street tacos are $3 each, special tacos not included in this deal.4 instead of 5 because the queso fundido was clumped together and not melty as I expected. Carne asada quesadilla meat was hit or miss, some overcooked pieces. Luckily happy hour deal made it better.Favorites: Al pastor taco was delicious, highly recommend. The frozen slushy sangria drink was good - get it!Indoor and outdoor seating, cool bar and street parking was easy in the neighborhood on a weekday.

The Tostaditas app was festive in appearance but ate very flat - salsa was needed, and even more badly needed was a pop of flavorful richness like maybe a chipotle or cilantro crema. The grilled veggie burrito was lovely to behold, it truly was, but the filling was of bizarre texture, lacked much in the way of flavor, and was desperately dry. I travel frequently for business and often dine out alone. To request a table rather than the always first-offered bar seat, and then be treated like some unreasonable pariah, is gravely unacceptable. Service was disinterested, a bit condescending and in the end, disappointing. The ambiance was fun, lively and conjured up an edgy Mexico City taqueria. The soundtrack was excellent; strong marks here.
