Tired of boring, bland, frozen Mexican food geared for Americans? This place will be the remedy. This is the restaurant that truly makes you feel like you are not in America anymore toto, and I love it. When you walk in you can see the team of women making tortillas and pupusas in the back. Music playing, lights flickering, not a cockroach in sight. The food comes out and you can tell you're dealing with quality when the sides of rice and beans makes you question your entire knowledge on the concept of what food that tastes good, actually tastes like. If you're lucky like I was, the power will shut off mid meal. A truly awesome experience.

Delicious pupusas - best we've had in town. Quick service and they give you a container of slaw to go with the pupusas. I feel like we always need more slaw than what other restaurants give you so it was perfect to have a big jar to keep grabbing from. House sauces were delicious. Smaller restaurant that is clean and bathrooms kept up with. Great pricing. They take credit cards but better know a little Spanish because the billing/tip is in Spanish. We'll definitely be back!

Best pupusas in town! Definitely feels like a hole in the wall, but the owner's kids serving tables were hilarious and the food was on point!

Viva El Salvador pupusas at La Metapaneca Restaurant Y Pupuseria. It's in south Nashville near the Zoo and is both kid and adult friendly. I recommend the Loroco Pupusa flavored with spicy lococo (of course) pods imported from the San Salvador region. The Frijol con Queso is simply veggie beans and cheese between two tortillas, and is quite mild but good. Add some tart curtido cabbage on top and you have a snack treat if you eat one, or a meal if you eat several. If you haven't had the pleasure of tasting some tart curtido relish, well if you like sauerkraut, you'll probably get a kick out of curtido with your pupusa. The simple cafe with its Salvador-colored blue and white tabletops includes a $5 junior quesadilla with rice on its "kid menu" which should satisfy the muchachas before their visit to the Nashville Zoo.
