La Doña

Fantastic all the way around. I had the ceviche and my friend had the Birras. We both had tons of chips and salsa. The food was fantastic and the service was even better. The restaurant is clean and open with immaculate bathrooms. Only thing that's a little tacky is the staff standing out on the sidewalk directly behind the kitchen smoking. The dessert was fantastic too. Coconut flan and churros. Parking next door was ridiculously expensive. $24 for 2 hours.

Beware the surprise fees!!I love La Doña, and I've been many times now, but I was just slapped with a surprise "3.5% SERVICE CHARGE" on my bill at the end of my meal and I won't be returning again. From what I could tell, there was no mention of the ambiguous 3.5% on the menu or restaurant signage, nor ahead of time by the staff.When asking the wait staff about it at time of payment, they indicated that it's a new fee that the owner implemented a month or two ago, but the staff themselves weren't even made aware of what it's meant to cover or the rationale behind it. It was, however, emphasized that the added 3.5% doesn't go to the staff members at all -- strictly to the owner.Surprise fees have no place here and have become too common by greedy owners who are riding the inflation rationale wave. We won't be returning until the surprise fees are removed. I encourage others to do the same.

I used to love this place the surf and turf burrito is great, the seafood mochajette is amazing, the Birria tacos awesome... been coming since it opened... 3 chicken enchiladas also super good... oh and the jalapeño poppers also pretty awesome.The last few months we went in there and it's hit and miss with the food.... Meaning I got the surf and turf burrito and the enchilada sauce was so spicy it was almost couldn't eat it. Then we come in the next time and the enchiladas are great. Then we come in the next Time and the seafood mochajette is so spicy it was almost non-edible... we were going there probably like once a week and now I've been staying away because I hate ordering something and not being able to eat it and then feeling bad to tell the waitress!

We came in on a Saturday and sat at the bar. The Bartender was great. We talked tequilas, mezcal and Mexicans spirits. Drinks were tasty, made from scratch with an excellent selection of tequila. We ordered an espresso martini with mezcal and a Drop Top Brougham. Both were well balanced and tasty. We also ordered their brunch items, the Avocado Toast and the Briased Beef Eggs Benedict. Both were so delicious. Highly recommend this place.

Stopped by here for a little lunch. I love the open indoor/outdoor vibe. We sat on the patio & were met with some delicious chips & salsa. It was the perfect day for some refreshing fish tacos, so that was a no brainer. Our server was on top of it & help in the decision making. The drinks are strong, yay, & the food was delicious!

Holy mole! The chef's special was Chicken Mole Poblano ($22)Half chicken in housemade mole poblano sauce topped with cilantro and sesame seeds. Served with Spanish rice, refried pinto beans, and flour tortillas.I put my order in. After a few minutes J.C. our barkeep informed me that they were out. They had a huge run on it the night before. As I was trying to figure out my Plan B, the chef came out of the kitchen and said he had enough to make one more plate! Woohoo! Score!It was, in a word, Outf*ckingstanding!The mole was so full of flavor. It was a robust smoky, spicy with a hint of sweet, delicious sauce. I loved the half chicken. A leg, thigh and breast. Dark and white meat, the best of both worlds. The rice and beans were of course fantastic. La Doña ain't playin' when it comes to rice and beans!Becky ordered the El Burrito Mar Y Tierra. ($21)Ranchero steak and sautéed shrimp stuffed in a flour tortilla smothered with housemade guajillo red and verde sauces. Topped with cotija cheese.She's ordered this before and just like the first time, it was fantastic. Surf and turf in a giant tortilla! She had to get a side each of rice and beans. You can't go to La Doña and not get the rice and beans!As per usual service from J.C was outstanding. Bridget was behind the bar also. She too is an absolute gem. Love La Doña!

Damn! That was a good taco! Visiting from Vegas and this place had a patio off of OB for our dogs to chill with us. Gave our dogs a water bowl and our server was really fast with our orders. The outdoors has a cool ambiance with a variety of different chairs and good tunes. The Beef Birria Quesa Tacos were some of the best damn tacos I've had in my life. Absolutely dripping with flavor and the spices were so strong but never overwhelming. Cheesy and oily and delicious! Go for these birria tacos when you're in OB!

Soy mexicana si señor !! Fuimos a este lugar una amiga y yo , íbamos buscando el nombre ya que se llama La Doña que en nuestro idioma es una mujer mayor , quizá alguien desconocida pero para definirla con respeto le nombramos La Doña . Y para nuestra sorpresa noMiramos el nombre en el restaurant solo en la entrada en pequeñas letras . Y bueno definitivamente nos encantó , pedimos el famosoMolcajete que wow !! Pudimos apreciar el sabor de los condimentos de la salsa las carnes no de verdadLo recomendamos y con tortillitas a mano uy que delicia . Al final salimos afuera y miramos a la Doña haciendo las tortillas a mano en la entrada del restaurante, nos acercamos a ella nos regaló unas tortillas recién hechas y ella tan amable y hermosa representando a nuestra bella mujer mexicana La Doña . Gracias por tan bello mensaje detrás de ella Valla con Dios .

We came here 2 nights in a row w the kids. It was a great experience both times. Service was nice , friendly and efficient. Ambiance so super chill and comforting. Kid friendly cool vibes all around, dogs everywhere, heathers etc. The food was actually delicious- chicken tinga, burritos etc. Meals were quite large Highly recommend. Would def come here again if I'm back in San Diego !! Loved it

Service was excellent and the food was delicious. Vibes are on point here. Parking is difficult so be prepared.
