Lunch at KUMI Sushi Grill was really nice! The restaurant was really clean, bright and had great decor. The staff were all helpful and friendly. The menu was packed with great options! From Bulgolgi to Tofu, KUMI has it all. I had the Mixed Tempura Bento Box that came w/miso soup & 4-5 pcs of shrimp tempura & veggies [$14.50]. Added a couple of items: Cali roll [$2.50] & 3 pieces of sashimi (chose yellowtail) [$5.50] and was pleasantly surprised at how good everything was! One small complaint was that the sashimi tasted a little watery. I guess it's cause they keep the fish on top of ice or something cold? IDK, but it was somehow watered down. I should also mention that the sushi roll we ordered Caterpillar [$15.50] did come out before the Takoyaki [$5.95] app. Both tasted really good regardless of the order they came out, but if you order an app, we assume it'll always come out first. Solid meal at Kumi Sushi. Will visit again to try more of their menu. Parking is plentiful, but can get packed at peak times. See ya soon!

Had a nice lunch with my Father catching up on the latest news in his life. After one of his Dr appointments we decided to get some lunch and chose this spot. It was a busy day in the restaurant. Tyler took care of us. We appreciate his prompt attention working hard to take care of us and everyone else. We chose the following * LUNCH BENTO BOX Charbroiled chicken topped with house-made teriyaki sauce Served with rice, miso soup and salad and California roll 4pcs *Spring rolls - Fried vegetable spring rolls*Chicken Teriyaki Bowl -Charbroiled chicken, vegetables, house teriyaki sauce. I asked for the teriyaki on the side and breast for additional charge *Shrimp Crunch-IN: Shrimp tempura, Krab, Cucumber, Avocado TOP: Crushed tempura, Eel sauce*Caterpillar rolled Caterpillar-IN: Freshwater eel, Krab, Cucumber TOP: Avocado, Eel sauceVeggie RollEverything was delicious! I even ordered to go rolls to enjoy with Ohana later. Check this place out.

I've gotten sushi from Kumi quite a few times, although always takeout/delivery and never dine-in, so I can't speak for how their service is. But in terms of their sushi, while it's not the most high quality you can get, I'd say it's still pretty decent and they're always consistent which is appreciated. They have other non-sushi Japanese dishes as well on their menu, though I haven't tried these myself. I've had their Baked Salmon, Dragon, and Dynamite rolls, as well as their salmon hand roll which all hit the spot and help satisfy my cravings. Large parking lot, but shared with Mitsuwa and can be crowded during peak hours. Overall, decent sushi if you're looking for a quick fix, but if you're wanting some super high quality fish, this probably isn't the spot for you!

Stumbled upon Kumi Sushi after visiting Kearny Mesa area with friends . Since I was on the go, I decided to order take out. It's a cute location near Starbucks and across the street from In n out. I ended up ordering the Philadelphia roll, Dynamite roll and Crispy roll. All rolls were very delicious and yummy. Sushi felt very fresh. I ended up going back again the following week. Definitely worth it to visit. Next time I will make time to dine in.

Kumi Cafe is a nice spot where you can grab a bite of Japanese food. I came here for lunch with a family member. We were promptly greeted and seated with menus. For convenience, they do have QR code menus you can scan with your phone at each table, if for whatever reason you don't happen to get a menu. They have a wide variety of appetizers and dishes from sushi to teriyaki and even (Korean) bulgogi. On this visit, I went with the Teriyaki Beef Bowl and my family member went with the Chicken Katsu Lunch Special and chose the California Roll as the add on.The food arrived in the time you might expect (probably about 15 minutes) and everything looked great. The teriyaki beef was tender and flavorful. I'm glad they added extra teriyaki sauce with the rice. The sauce consistency was appropriately on the thicker side, which is what I am accustomed to and it tasted pretty good. The portion filled the bowl and I had to be careful not to spill anything over the side of the bowl. The chicken katsu was perfectly crispy and it came with a dipping sauce on the side which was flavorful. The California Roll was okay (at best)... bland and not very enjoyable. I think a grab and go California Roll from Mitsuwa or Nijiya probably scores better. This place was very busy. I was concerned about the server because she was by herself. She was taking care of 8 tables by herself. About 15-20 minutes after we arrived and ordered, another server showed up to help the lone server out.Service was okay, it was pretty busy so not totally unexpected. Kumi Cafe was clean... clean tables, menu, utensils, dishes, etc. Parking in this shopping center can become difficult to find during peak hours. Kumi Cafe is located right next to Starbucks and is in the same shopping center as Staples and Mitsuwa.I think we would come here again and maybe even become regulars here. Overall a good experience.4 / 5: Food3 / 5: Service4 / 5: Cleanliness 3.7 / 5: Overall (rounded up to 4)

I LOVED coming to KUMI when they had their 30% off specialty rolls after 8pm. Unfortunately, although that is sadly no longer available, I still come from time to time because they offer unique rolls that I cannot find elsewhere. I usually come with my friend for dinner, at around 7pm, and we're quick to get a table. The parking lot associated with the restaurant is huge, too, so it's easy to find parking. Here's what I usually order: Albacore special: This one is delicious! It comes topped with a huge bundle of lightly-battered fried onions. It's a little spicy, but I love the flavor combinations in this roll and how well it pairs with the onions. Wild child: Will get this every time. When the 30% off was still available, this one was super worth. It's basically a bunch of California rolls, but topped with all types of fish including salmon, tuna, and albacore (?), don't remember the last one. The fish is dressed in this slightly spicy, yet sweet sauce, poke style. The fish is then topped on these rolls. A huge mountain of fresh fish. So good. Finding Nemo: I think I liked getting this because it was one of their "creamier" rolls. A ton of avocado, a ton of salmon. Nothing too distinct about this one though, would definitely order the first two if you had to choose. Their appetizers are also delicious! I've gotten the gyoza, and the takoyaki, but I think the ones people should try are the spicy garlic edamame (packs so much flavor) and the agedashi tofu (it's so crispy!).A bit expensive but that's how sushi is. Great for dine-in and take-out!

My friends suggested this restaurant for our lunch, and I was pleased with my experience here. There are three lunch specials offerings: Sushi, Bento Box, or Ramen. I ordered the Sushi Roll Combo #2. This included the Shrimp Crunch roll, Dragon roll, and Hawaiian roll. All the rolls were fresh. My favorite was the Dragon roll. As an appetizer it came with miso soup. The miso was good. For my beverage I ordered was the Mango Tropical Iced Tea. It had a nice sweetness and caffeine kick. You only get one refill so sip wisely. The servers which all worked together were attentive. Consistently refilling our waters and asking if we needed anything. The restaurant is simple and bright. Lunch came out to $30.00. A little more expensive than what I am accustomed to for sushi yet it was good quality. I plan on visiting again.

Ambiance has a great modern chic vibe very simple and good on the eyes, service was amazing! Friendly server and very attentive, food was delicious and fresh, couldn't get enough of the edamame! Great flavor to it and the rolls pretty big size and pretty fresh with amazing flavors.

2 years later and Kumi Cafe is still one of my favorite go-to spots for Japanese food in San Diego.Today I had their Chicken Katsu Curry entree and Baked Mussels appetizer. I've had a lot of chicken katsu around San Diego but I kid you not, this was the best and most perfectly cooked one I've had so far. Usually when I have katsu else where the breading falls right off, is overcooked, or there is too much cartilage in the meat but the chicken katsu here was moist, filling and had the perfect amount of crunch. My entree also came with a miso soup and salad. There was so much food I couldn't finish it but perfect to take home and enjoy later. The baked mussels were huge and super filling. I also had a taste of the Miso Ramen and was blown away of how flavorful it was. Even though they aren't known to be a ramen shop I definitely would not skip out on ordering it if you're craving it. You won't be disappointed. Kumi really does it all, from sushi to curry to ramen. I'm so happy to find a one-stop place that serves all my favorite Japanese foods.Lastly, the service here is incredible. Shoutout to Josh and Michelle for providing excellent service and making me feel like family as always!
