I'd never tried koshari before, but I'd now highly recommend it! I didn't know how all the elements would blend, but the fried onions are really what pulls everything together. It's delicious, hearty, vegan meal. We also got the "meat"balls, which I found quite warm and comforting, but my partner thought was nothing special. The meatballs are a fairly small portion, so I probably wouldn't get it again given how generously portioned and delicious the koshari was. This is a fairly small place, so it may be a bit difficult to get a seat (though they do have small table that is bar-type seating), but I do not think they take reservations.

Cute establishment. Great friendly service. Wonderful meal. I had the Muhammura - great pita bread toasted and tasty dip. Koshari for lunch with medium spice. Sauces come on the side so you can control the heat. Wonderful presentation, good lunch portion, tasty flavors with medium heat. Ingredients well done and nice combination, never have had Egyptian food before. Got the chocolate cake to go, assuming it will be fantastic. Never imagined an establishment like this in Somerville, only able to visit when I come back from West Coast.Pros: Service, Food tied with service, Dinner in decorCons: 3000 miles from my home

Was here for dinner with a friend on a Wednesday evening. This is a little cute spot in Somerville. It wasn't too crowded for mid week and we were able to get a cozy corner by the window. Inside it's beautifully decorated. As soon as I was seated the server was very kind and I ordered my drinks (black mint tea). For apps he helped us decide which to get. We got the cucumber mint and the babaghanoush which comes with pita. The cucumber mint what garlic and was just perfect! For our mains we both got the Koshari and you can pick what spice level of sauce you want. This is my first time eating Koshari so I didn't know what to expect, but it was a mix of lentils, rice and chickpeas. It also had some macaroni topped with fried onions. I loved the texture and spice level. We ended the night with Kunafeh and a semolina like cake. I personally liked the Kunafeh better , unlike the Turkish kind, this one had a puddling like base. The cake was very sweet. Overall, the vibes were great and so was the food. The service was kind, fast and most importantly friendly. Will definitely be back!

I'd never had Egyptian food before, let alone vegan Egyptian food. I'm glad I made the trip because the food was so delicious and nutritious. I tried the koshari ($14 lunch portion) and rice pudding ($8) and was quite full. The koshari was very flavorful and packed with plant protein like chickpeas and lentils. I enjoyed the flavors with the vinegar and spice sauces (choice of mild, medium, and spicy). The rice pudding was not too sweet and had a soft pudding texture like silken tofu. Service was also excellent. Overall come here for a unique and delicious meal--if you live nearby count yourself extremely lucky!

Amazing restaurant with extremely welcoming staff and unique crate-inspired furniture and lively music. We tried pomegranate Egyptian soda, which was ultra fizzy and sweet. The koshari bowl is extremely hearty and flavorful with fried onions, tomato sauce, and vinegar. We also tried a brunch item, the alexandrian style foule with falafel and omelette. The foule was very spicy and went well with the bread. The falafel is amazing crispy on the outside and tender inside, a must get item! We will definitely be coming back to try more of the items! The restaurant also offers gluten free bread and has tons of vegetarian/vegan options.

It's a good spin on traditional egyptian food but since it's plant based you should expect a different experience. decided to go with the koshari since technically it's always vegetarian so i thought it would be a good option; was good but not great compared to something like koshari in cairo; this one was a bit drier and dense and crispy onions were not as flavorful. I would return but would try something else
