I drove from Nashville to eat lunch here with a friend today. You never know how something is going to taste until you get there and taste it. My friend and I were walking in and said jokingly this is either going to be the worst meal we've ever had or the best.Well the results are in. It was the BEST! I had the Jerk Chicken wings with rice and beans with a side of fried plantains. The jerk chicken killed it! It a was so delicious! My friend had the oxtail with rice and beans with Mac and cheese. I stole some oxtail and it was fire!I'm guessing it's a family owned joint and everyone was super friendly! It was a great experience. I definitely recommend

**Kool Runnings Jamaican Cuisine**I recently revisited Kool Runnings Jamaican Cuisine and ordered their Oxtail with Rice, Beans, and Cabbage, which used to be my go-to dish. Unfortunately, my experience this time was disappointing. The price for this dish has climbed to $27, which seems steep, especially considering the portion size has noticeably decreased. I received more bones than meat, making the meal feel less substantial. For the same price, I could enjoy a full-course meal at a five-star restaurant with a more satisfying experience. While the flavors were still good, the diminishing value makes it hard to justify the cost. It's disheartening to see a once-favorite spot fall short of expectations.

Now I will tell you now.1. The Akee and Saltfish is only sold on Saturdays2. The fish has to be a call in order because it takes an hour to cook. 3. The jerk pork is sold on Fridays and Saturdays. Only4. Rice and peas are considered a side, so if you use your complimentary sides for other items, you will be charged for rice it.Okay... now that is out of the way, time to discuss the food.FOOD:The sweet yam was very soft like you'd like candied yams to be, but they had pineapple in them. I'm not sure if this is a regular thing, but it overpowered the yam... it was to the point where the yams smelled more like fruit juice. You don't get much j of the brown sugar or yam itself. The cabbage was spot on, and so was the curry goat. If you haven't learned from previous jamaican visits, I love curry goat, lol. I'm happy to say I enjoyed it, I just wish there were more potatoes and carrots in it. The oxtail was pretty good as well. Most of it was falling of the bone, which I love. AMBIANCE:This place really gives Jamaica. It's quaint and colorful. It's not too spacious... it gives the essence of what it would be like to order food at a Jamaican local restaurant. SERVICE:The owners came off very hospitable My only takeaway is that I wish that the servers were a little more welcoming. I totally understand that it's a business, but it can be a little uncomfortable to order food if the customer feels like they are being annoying to tend to no matter how straightforward the customer may be.

I think we can agree that this is THE best jamaican in the city! The service is so friendly and family like, it was very friendly and welcoming. They were able to help and tell us all we needed to know about the food and combinations. I think you get what you pay for, the prices are a bit high but you're getting an authentic home cooked Jamaican meal!

I've been wanting some Jamaican food for months, but didn't feel like going to north Nashville. Google introduced me to this restaurant. They had super high reviews so I decided to try it. When I walked in, the young lady at the counter wasn't the most friendly. She seemed to be having a bad day or something. She spoke very low and I had to have her repeat herself a few times. I'm assuming she may be the one everyone talks about that has a bad attitude. She gives off the vibe that she doesn't enjoy her job at all. The man who was cooking in the back did smile at every customer. He seemed to be enjoying himself. The food looked amazing as she was preparing it. She was very generous with the portions. My Ox Tail plate was $27....not bad. I looked up and saw Jamaican patties and lost it. MY FAVE!On to the food. The Jamaican patty made me want to cry. It was so dern good! I ate it in the car driving home. Got home and go to my plate. The cabbage was just alright. It LOOKED bland, but it wasn't. It didn't taste bad at all. I just expected to be wow'd and I wasn't. The rice and peas...its hard to describe what was happening there. The the didn't taste overcooked, but it was definitely something. Again, it wasn't nasty, but it's something about the consistency. The Ox tail was gooood. And they give you a LOT. I bought this plate at around 12:30pm and I ate off of it all day so $27 wasn't bad at all.All in all, I'd go back. I just now know what to expect. (My picture is actually missing some food because my mom took some before I got some. Her thoughts were the same as mine.

One of the first places I tried upon moving to Nashville! We ordered the Oxtail and Jerk Chicken with sides of mac n cheese, greens, and plantains. Truly delicious and can't wait to come back!Great service and you can tell that they really know their customers-- just sitting in the restaurant, we saw that people were having fun, felt relaxed, and welcomed.

Food is good but really makes me sad when the young lady serving the food is all smiles for the white guy in front of me and loads his plate up but frowns and seems just overall disappointed to be serving me "black guy" and shorts me on the food. I got more bones than meat

Must be going out of business or it's slow for them because I was shorted really bad on curry goat . I was disappointed I spent over $20+ for a curry goat meal and receive more bones than meat after I waited a hour on my food . Early this year things were great but this time it wasn't .
